Chapter 6

Elaine's P.O.V.

"There is no way I am going to do it." Though I loved Cannon, I couldn't help uttering without bothering their glaring looks.

Evana left the house for God knows why and now my uncle and aunt wanted me to get married to Cannon.

This was the decision, they had reached after giving it a great deal of thought according to them.

As if!

Marriage is an ultimatum for the two people who love each other. That was my idea about marriage. I had never thought about my marriage not like this at least.

Like becoming a wife of someone who loves someone else and is eagerly waiting to marry her.

"No. No way on the earth I am going to do it." I again muttered under my breath.

After sometime Cannon's parents reached at our place.

I let out a sigh in relief as I thought they were going to call off this marriage alliance but no.

Ethan Henderson, Cannon's father heard everything all silently and then turning to me spoke up being all calm, "You should get married to Cannon then." only to get me all shocked.

I couldn't believe Cannon's father was saying this.

Last night at that mall from Cannon's expression I guessed this much that he wasn't on good terms with his parents. This time I understood what might be the reason behind it.

I gave him a look of uttered disbelief and got uttering, "Uncle, Cannon loves Evana and I don't think he will agree to marry someone other than her only."

Cannon's father spoke up all smilingly, "You don't need to worry about that. He has already signed the legal document. Now he only needs to take the wedding vows."

I wondered how could he be so normal while planning how to fool his own son with such an important matter of his life.

Is he really his biological father!

I wondered for a moment.

Being impatient, I spoke up, "Uncle, it's about his life. And besides, Cannon will only take the vows if he sees Evana in front of him. What will you do of it?"

Getting me more shocked, his mother, Mary Henderson who was all silent till now spoke up, "I don't think it will be of much trouble. We don't have to do pretty much. Just a veil will do besides the makeup. Luckily, you and Evana are of almost same height and hair color."

I was going crazy.

What is just happening! His mother also!

"I can't do this. I think you should talk to Cannon."

I was about to leave but got stopped as Ethan Henderson spoke up all sternly, "Listen, you girl, we didn't do anything. Your sister ran away. We are just trying to save our image and business. If this news gets out, we will turn into people's gossip. Our lifelong reputation and image will be finished."

Before I could say anything, my uncle spoke up, "What's your problem, Elaine? We have done so much for you. Can't you do this much for our sake?"

I didn't even remember my parents. I was brought up here in my paternal uncle's place. Though they didn't treat me well, I was grateful to them for giving me shelter.

But because of my gratefulness, I can't just play with someone's life, right?

I desperately wished for Evana to come back from somewhere saying, "It's just a prank."

I mean she loved Cannon, didn't she?

I tried my level best but couldn't convince them. Like they were hell bound to make me do this.

They made me sign the legal documents which I did with shivering hand.

Then along with the assigned girl, Aunt and Cannon's mother got me ready. They made me wear the wedding gown that I selected with Cannon.

Never in my life but today I was hating the fact that Evana and I were of almost same body feature. The gown fitted me perfectly which irritated me to the core.

That time in the shop when I imagined myself in this dress, I got hurt but now wearing it, I felt like I was living a nightmare from which I desperately wanted to wake up.

Like that day when I saw Cannon seeking permission from uncle to marry Evana, I got pinching myself but the result was also the same. Nothing got changed.

Though I wasn't pretty much happy with my life, all these were just making me go crazy. Never in my life, I imagined something like this would happen to me one day. Not even in my worst dream.

Getting all ready, I had to leave for the church with Uncle and Aunt. On the way, I tried to convince them on the way also but nothing worked on them.

As soon as I came out of the car, a group of reporters encircled me and uncle. My uncle kept answering their questions all smilingly and I mentally groaned.

Wasn't it just a family matter? I mean as much as I knew the wedding was supposed to be in presence of family members only.

When did the decision get changed?

I wondered.

The moment I stepped into the Church, the crowd stood up from their chairs at once.

Moving around, I looked up at the man who was standing on the stage some steps away from me, smiling at me.

Cannon..

I wandered my eyes all around the Church. It was decorated all beautifully. I would have been the happiest person on the earth if all these were really meant for me but no.

What kind of prank my fate was pulling with me? I cried out in mind.

Uncle made me walk towards the stage with him. As I reached the last staircase while thinking about all these, Cannon came forward.

Holding my hand, he took me to the place to stand.

Never in the worst thought, I had imagined to meet Cannon like this. His face was gleaming under the bright lights. The masculine jawline looked sharper and firm. His dark hair looked glossy.

He was looking far way more handsome in his three-piece suit; white smooth, cotton shirt, black coffee skinny pants and burgundy slim fit blazer.

A happy smile was lingering on his face. He looked happy and relaxed, completely oblivious about what was happening to him. He was giving me an utterly happy and contented look.

I turned straight to avoid his penetrating gaze for few moments, facing the crowd. I felt his presence beside me that made my heart lurched in my chest.

A little hope was peeping in my mind that Cannon would remove the veil from my face at first and I kept praying for it to happen like this.

I could see my Uncle and Aunt glaring at me like they knew what was going on in my mind.

My damn luck didn't support me this time also.

But I didn't lose hope.

I waited for few moments for Cannon to reach for my veil but when he didn't seem to be doing something like this, I turned to him and tried whispering.

Probably he heard me as I saw him turning to me as soon as the word "Cannon?" got out of my throat...
