Chapter 23

Lucy's POV;

The first day I met Tyler at my club, he was sitting in a corner by himself, nursing his drink, as if it were the only thing keeping him alive right now. He was looking down at his drink, so absorbed in whatever thoughts had driven him here that he hadn't heard me approach and greet him. I stood behind him for a moment, waiting to see what would happen next.

But after an awkward silence, I asked, "Sir, liqueur?" and he finally looked up at me with wide eyes and a startled look on his face. His cheeks were flushed red and his hair was mussed, but he still managed to be one of the most beautiful people I'd ever seen, even in the dim light. As soon as I said this though, his expression changed into something more guarded, wary even. He gave me a brief nod, and then turned away from me, his gaze focused on something over my shoulder. He wasn't looking in my direction anymore, he was staring off into space, lost in his thoughts. So much for trying to make conversation.
