LOGINHis cold words echoed in my head, but shit, I refused to let go of his hand. He moved his gaze to my fingers, and a frown settled on his face.
I swallowed hard before continuing.
“Did you not hear me?” I asked. “I said marry me.”
“I heard you the first time,” he replied coldly.
“Then why are you asking if I’ve lost my mind?” I questioned him.
He pulled his hand away from mine roughly and stared at the mark on my wrist.
“Yesterday, you rejected me. Today, you’re standing in my house asking me to marry you. Do you expect me to take you seriously?”
I stared at him, but for a second, I forgot what to say. I immediately recovered myself.
“I have my reasons,” I said.
“I’m sure you do,” he replied flatly.
I folded my arms across my chest. “Look, I know you probably hate me, but I need your help.”
“What makes you think I’d help you?”
“Because it would benefit you too,” I explained.
He raised an eyebrow. “And how exactly would marrying you benefit me?”
I hesitated for a moment before answering.
“My father wants me to marry the Brickwell family’s son. If I marry someone else before the next Lunar Moon, I won’t have to go through with it.”
“And you think I’m interested in helping you escape your father’s arrangement?”
“No. I think you might agree because Nathan would hate it.”
His expression remained unchanged, but his eyes stayed on my face.
“Is that why you came here? To make your former boyfriend jealous?”
“He’s not my boyfriend anymore.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
I rolled my eyes. “Do you always have to question everything? I already told you I don’t want to marry the Brickwells. Besides, I doubt you’d enjoy watching Nathan get married to my sister while you do nothing.”
He stared at me for a moment before speaking.
“Fine. I’ll marry you.”
I blinked. That was easier than I expected.
“Really?”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
I quickly closed my mouth. I wasn’t about to annoy him when he had just agreed to help me.
“But I have conditions,” he continued.
Of course. There had to be a catch.
“What conditions?”
“This will be a public marriage, and it will last for one year. During that period, you’ll tell me everything Nathan has ever said about his father’s death.”
I frowned. “Why do you want to know about his father?”
“That’s not your concern.”
“Well, excuse me for asking. I’m supposed to marry you, not become your personal information provider.”
His eyes narrowed slightly.
“Do you want this marriage or not?”
I pressed my lips together. I really hated how easily he could make me feel like I was the one asking for too much.
“Fine. What’s the other condition?”
“You won’t ask me about what happened to his father until I’m ready to tell you.”
I stared at him. His words only made me more curious. Why was he so interested in what Nathan had said about his father? And why didn’t he want me asking about what happened?
I had a feeling there was more to the story than what Nathan had told me, but I wasn’t going to start questioning him now.
“Fine. But I have a condition too.”
He looked at me.
“I won’t be treated like a prisoner in your house. I want to make my own decisions, and you won’t order me around as if I’m one of your warriors.”
For a moment, he said nothing.
“Agreed.”
I nodded. At least we could agree on something.
“Is that all?” I asked.
“For now.”
I frowned. “What do you mean for now?”
“It means I may have other conditions later.”
I scoffed. “You should have mentioned that before I agreed. Who knows what other ridiculous rules you’ll come up with?”
He didn’t respond. Instead, his gaze suddenly dropped to my hands. I followed his eyes and noticed him studying my fingers.
“Who taught you how to fight?”
I frowned. “What?”
“Your hands.” He looked at them again. “You have calluses. Who taught a wolfless girl to fight?”
I immediately pulled my hands behind my back.
“Why? Are you planning to arrest my teacher?”
His expression didn’t change.
“I’m asking a question.”
“And I don’t remember agreeing to answer every question you ask.”
“You’re quite defensive about it.”
“Well, you’re quite nosy for someone who barely knows me.”
He stared at me for a few seconds before looking away.
“Get ready. We’ll make the announcement tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” I repeated. “You don’t waste time, do you?”
“Do you have a problem with that?”
“No. I just hope you don’t expect me to wear a wedding dress tomorrow morning.”
He ignored my comment and turned away.
I watched him for a moment before letting out a breath. I had actually done it. I had just convinced the man I rejected yesterday to marry me.
I wasn’t sure what had made him agree so quickly, but I wasn’t going to complain. I had what I wanted, and that was what mattered.
Now I only had to face my family and tell them about it.
I wasn’t sure which part was going to be worse.
Alice POVThe dinner was silent, with everyone looking like they planned to kill each other. Nathan was the worst. His face was pale, while Eliza had her usual smugness. Rowan sat beside me, saying nothing. I chuckled and stabbed my fork into my meat.I was beginning to enjoy this. The door burst open, the sound echoing through the hall. A maid stumbled in, breathing heavily, and bowed at once."Alpha, Prince Corin of Brickwell is here. He seems angry and is requesting your presence," she stammered, her head still bowed.I turned towards my father. His expression faltered, and I thought I caught a pleased look on his face before it disappeared. He nodded and started towards the door. He had barely taken a few steps when the prince shoved the maid aside, a dozen warriors filing in behind him. The maid hit the ground hard and Corin didn't spare her a glance. He stepped over her as if she were a rug.I frowned. He looked around the hall as if it bored him. "A charming hall," he said. "I
Alice POV The morning after our deal, Rowan walked beside me without uttering a single word. We stopped in front of the hall. Two guards stood by the entrance, and I could already hear voices inside. My father must have summoned everyone early. "Are you planning to stand here all morning?" Rowan asked. I turned to him. "I'm trying to enjoy my last few minutes of peace." "Then you should have stayed in bed." I rolled my eyes. He pushed the hall doors open before I could come up with an answer. The moment Rowan and I stepped inside, every conversation stopped. My father sat in his usual chair at the far end of the room, with Eliza beside him and Nathan standing behind her. A few elders were seated along the sides, while the guards remained close to the entrance. Eliza looked from me to Rowan. Her lips curved into a smile. "You're late," my father said. "I'm early, Father. I have news." His eyes narrowed. Rowan walked past me and stopped a few steps ahead. "Why are you here?"

Rowan's POVThe night screamed with the sound of war, steel crashing against steel while claws tore into flesh and bones snapped with deafening cracks beneath the cold haze of the moon.I tightened my grip on my sword as an enemy warrior charged towards me. I stepped aside, avoiding his claws before driving my blade into his chest. His body fell to the ground, and I turned just in time to block another attack.I pushed him back with my sword before delivering a strike across his neck."Hold your positions!" I ordered without taking my eyes off the battlefield. My men advanced, forcing the remaining enemy warriors backwards. Their commander stood among them, his eyes fixed on me. I knew what he wanted. A fight.I walked towards him, my sword hanging loosely in my hand. He shifted into his wolf and charged. I waited until he was close enough before moving aside and driving my blade into his side.He staggered. I pulled my sword free and struck again. His body hit the ground, and the rema
Alice's POVA hand tipped with wicked-looking claws sliced through the air towards me. I ducked just in time, feeling the rush of air brush against my skin before delivering a hard punch to my opponent's stomach.Marcus let out a grunt and stumbled backwards, one hand pressed against his stomach.I smirked as I straightened up. "Still too weak, Marcus."I walked towards the table, grabbed a bottle of water, and drank half of it in one go. My chest rose and fell slightly from the exercise, but I wasn't nearly as tired as I expected to be, considering I had barely slept after last night."Damn, you're good," Marcus admitted, rubbing his stomach. There was genuine admiration in his voice. "But how do you manage to fight like this when…" He trailed off, letting out a heavy sigh.I knew exactly what he wanted to say. How could a girl without a wolf take down the leader of the pack warriors? It was unheard of.I turned towards him with a smirk. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue? Next time,
Silence filled the room as Rowan strode through the doorway, his broad shoulders nearly filling the space. My father stood up almost immediately, his expression brightening as he looked at Rowan."You made it in good time," he said, gesturing towards the seats.Rowan nodded and walked towards the chair closest to mine. The mark on my wrist began to burn. It seemed the mate bond was still reacting to his presence, even after everything that had happened.I turned towards Nathan, wanting to see his reaction. His face had gone pale. He looked between my father and Rowan before suddenly standing up, his chair scraping loudly against the floor."Father, he can't be here! He killed my father!" he exclaimed, staring at my father as though demanding an explanation. My father slowly turned towards him, his expression unreadable, though a hint of annoyance crossed his face."Sit down. I invited him," he said coldly.Nathan hesitated before lowering himself into his seat. He clearly wasn't happy
