Chapter 5- Settled

If we fail to adapt, we fail to move forward - John Wooden

~***~

“Mr. Winchester, can you help me?” Amber asked. She stepped off the stairs and walked over to where Elijah and William were standing up.

“What do you need help with Bambi?” William asked.

“My iPod, It’s not charging,” she pouted and handed the iPod to him.

After testing almost every socket in the house. William realized that there was no light. “There’s no light Bambi,” he told her. “I’ll get it fixed. Go upstairs to mommy and shut the door.”

Amber made her way back to bed and cuddled up beside Reign’s sleeping body.

“Amber, it’s fixed. I got the generator up,” William barged into the room.

“Don’t you knock!” Reign shouted, grabbing the sheet to cover her naked body.

“Damn! I mean I’m sorry,” William apologized, scratching the back of his neck.

“Are you? Because you’re still staring at me,” she barked at him. She followed his gaze down to where her left breast was visible. “Are you drooling over my breast?”

“No, why would I do that?” he answered sheepishly. “ I just came to tell Amber she can charge her iPod now.”

“I’ll do it for her,” Reign walked towards him and tripped. The sheet fell to a pool at her feet.

“Umm, I think I'll go,” William smirked and examined her body fully.

“Are you examining my body?” she frowned and this time covered herself in a robe.

“I think I’ll leave,” William rushed to get out and bumped into the door instead.

“Your brain is not functioning? The blind could’ve seen that the door was shut,” she hissed.

William pulled the door and tried hard not to look back. He rushed his way downstairs as if nothing happened.

William stood and watched her play in the snow with Amber. The two had been there for almost two weeks. Each time the roads were going to be cleared another accident happened. Reign hated being there but she managed to settle and feel at home because that’s where she’s going to be for now.

“Do you like her yet?” Elijah asked, joining at the window.

“I don’t like her and probably never will. This girl is very nonchalant; she argues with me on everything and won’t stop calling me Willy Winnie the Pooh,” William frowned.

‘It’s a funny name, I have to admit,” Elijah laughed.

“Whatever,” William rolled his eyes.

“Can I borrow your phone?” Reign asked Elijah.

“Mines dead. You’re gonna have to check Willy, umm, I mean William,” Elijah laughed and went to play with Amber.

“Can I borrow your phone? Please Willy?” she smiled at him.

“That’s not my name, trouble,” William rolled his eyes.

“Please Pooh, it’s very urgent,” she pushed out her bottom lips and bopped her eyelashes. “I don’t want the S.W.A.T team breaking in here in the middle of the night claiming you guys kidnapped me.”

“Make it quick,” he handed her the phone after unlocking it.

“Thanks, Willy,”

“Hey babe,” Reign spoke when the phone was answered.

“Reign Lily Davis! Where are you?” Dominic snapped at her.

“Long story short, I got into a mishap and now I’m stuck with two guys. One is an ass and the other is pretty cool,” she blabbered.

“So how am I going to get to Alisha?” Dominic asked. “I'm driving over there now.”

“Maybe you can stop by and stay with us,” she replied, ignoring William’s stare.

“I’ll give you direction,” she directed him. “Bye babe.”

“Did you just invite your man to my cabin?” William growled.

“No, he’s my best friend. Are you jealous?” Reign teased.

“Of you? No,” William grumbled.

“Yeah right,” she replied sarcastically.

After everyone had left the hall, Reign took the time to herself to just think. She hadn't gotten the chance to think clearly about all that has happened in the past two weeks before the reason she left in the first place.

In life, we often forget that we can’t control what people do to us but we can and have the power to control how we react. At the end of the day torturing yourself because of someone else does not help you heal or move on from the problem.

Gaining the strength to leave a problem like it never happened does not mean the problem or the heartbreak never affected you; you just did not let it get the best of you. You find a reason to move on and try your best not to dwell on the past much.

Reign never thought about the day she had to just wait for life to happen for her. As a child growing up she always had a wild imagination however a positive one that her life would be with living for and a bright future no matter the obstacles she faced.

Well, life on the other hand always had a way of showing us that we should always brace for the unexpected whether it’s good or bad.

She was never the perfect kid but she tried to be. She tried to be in the limelight in her parents' eyes but failed at different times. Her life was completely ruined the day her grandmother moved away and stopped visiting. The plane fare was too high for her and she struggled daily to provide food for herself. Her father, under her mother's wicked spell, fails to even provide candy for his sick mother.

Taking a deep sigh, Reign lay on the couch and before she knew it, she was knocked out stone cold from boredom.

William after locking himself away in his office, came downstairs to get a head start on dinner so Reign won't lecture him about being lazy.

It was not that he took her snarky comments harshly, however, he prefers to avoid the unnecessary arguments and her calling him out every second she gets.

He was, even more, happier with the fact that she was sleeping. He couldn't bear her watching his every move in the kitchen when he was cooking.

Walking lightly on his feet. He made his way over to her and cover her trembling body that was curved into a ball on the sofa.

After ensuring that Elijah was nowhere around the exhaled deeply for relief. Because we all knew that if Elijah saw he was going to start asking his questions again and William honestly was never the type that liked being questioned; especially about his personal life.

Even though they are two best friends, son and shared childhood to adulthood; keeping everything on the low is what he's best at
