LOGINChapter two
Elara's pov "Silas, what is the meaning of this?" I groaned as the wolves held me down and dragged me to the middle of the podium. I struggled against their hold as murmurs rippled through the crowd. "Is this a sick joke?" I quirked a brow up at my mate who stared at me blankly in return. His eyes were cold and unfeeling and my heart dropped. What was happening? "Members of the Nightshade pack, we have been attacked by hunters and our pack has taken a significant hit." Silas began as everyone quieted. "As your Alpha, I have failed every one of you. I have failed all the wolves fighting for their lives in the infirmary as we speak, I have failed all the wolves lying dead and I have failed all the wolves crying and praying for their loved ones," Silas' voice boomed loud and clear throughout the pack grounds. "In light of this, I have searched endlessly to discover how such a weak species could have information on our pack and deliver such a fatal blow at us," he paused and glanced at me with cold eyes before he turned back to the crowd. "I have failed all of you in the worst way possible since I discovered it was my mate herself and your Luna who had betrayed us all," He announced, and gasps filled the entire ground as my eyes bulged. "Silas, what are you doing?" I called out to him as Asher, his beta, handed him a pile of envelopes. "Are you going to admit it or do I have to force an admission out of you?" Silas asked me. "I have no idea what you are talking about Silas, if this is a joke it isn't funny anymore," I assessed his features waiting for a grin to spread across his face as he announced he was just kidding but to my disappointment, his features remained hard and as I turned to Asher for help he also stared at me with anger blazing in his eyes. "In my hands are all your correspondence with the hunters. Everything you ever told them, how you planned with them, and how you revealed as well as compromised border security." Silas threw the envelopes down in front of me but I couldn't reach them because of my restrained hands. "Silas that isn't possible. I have never been in contact with hunters. You know my scent, you know my handwriting better than anyone surely you can-" I began defending myself. "Exactly Elara, I know you better than anyone or I thought I did anyway." He cut me off with a growl as he signalled to Asher who sprang into action and opened one of the envelopes, holding out the letter close to my face so that I could read its contents. My eyes bulged as my scent was all over the letter and as I stared at the letter my mouth dried at the familiar messy scribbles on the paper. Even I was fooled and thought it was my writing, how would I expect Silas to believe any less? "I'm being framed Silas, you have to believe me," I pleaded as I looked away from the paper and stared up at him. "What I want to know is why Elara. Why would you betray me...our pack like this?" Silas asked as his eyes reflected rage and hurt. "I didn't do this Silas, please. I know this looks bad and the evidence seems as plain as day but I didn't write any of that." My eyes willed him to believe me but he remained stoic. "Someone is trying to frame me and if you don't listen to me you are going to let the real culprit get away with this," I looked from Silas to Asher but neither of them seemed to believe me. "Were you always this cunning?" Silas growled at me and my heart broke as I saw the hatred and rage in his eyes. "As the pack law states, any traitor to the pack would be burned at the stake...your Luna is not excluded from that law," Silas announced to our pack as gasps spread out among them and my heart dropped. This couldn't possibly be happening, Silas couldn't do this to me. Silas loved me as his mate but I also knew how he placed responsibility and his pack before everything else and in this instance it had blinded him. "Burn her at the stake," Silas declared as some wolves roared in agreement with his decision. "Silas- Silas," I called out to him as the wolves roughly tugged me to my feet and Silas turned away from me. "You could at least give me the benefit of the doubt and conduct a thorough investigation," I pleaded but my voice was merely a whisper compared to the raging voices of the pack members, all of whom hurled insults and accusations at me as I was being dragged to the stakes. "I always knew she was no good for the pack," "I wonder how Alpha Silas feels knowing his own mate betrayed him," several pack members talked among themselves as I was dragged into the firm logs of wood. I fought against their hold but even with my wolf's strength I couldn't win against them. The wolves tied me to the stake and with a single light of a matchstick, the whole stake came to life as fire eagerly licked the flames. Pure fear gripped my heart as my eyes sought out Silas' in the crowd. Was this it? Was this how I was going to be burned because of a crime I didn't commit? The flames slowly scathed my body and I writhed against my ties but they were done with great expertise and I knew there was no escape for me. My wolf howled as the flames consumed me and my eyes met and held with Silas' just before everything slowly faded into nothingness.Chapter 76Scarlett's pov"Silas," I called out to him hesitantly as his hand remained between us.His deep brown eyes bore into mine and his gaze darted to my lips before they returned to my eyes. For a wild second I was sure I had heard him wrong yet his eyes gave me a glimpse into his thoughts."I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he announced as he pulled away and I blinked rapidly as I stared at him, walking back towards his table and taking his seat."What?" I asked dumbly as I tried to comprehend his words. Was he toying with me?"I said I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he repeated, and my eyes searched for him. But his face was pulled in its usual blank mask, making me wonder if I had really seen what I thought I saw."Thank you," I said, immediately hating how airy my voice sounded. I didn't want him to think he had some sort of effect on me."Can I ask what changed your mind?" I asked after a moment as I shuffled awkwardly on my feet."You want me to hand you ov
Chapter 75Scarlett's pov"Silas has asked to see us in his office," Nora announced as she stormed into my room but I didn't move from my place on my bed."Did you hear me Scar? Silas wants to see you," she tried again but all I gave her in return was a sniffle."Scar?" She called out to me as the bed dipped and I knew she was beside me."You can't keep crying all day," she murmured as she gently turned me till I was facing her. I dared say I could cry and that was exactly what I intended on doing till Silas handed me over to the rogues."You haven't moved an inch since last night and the only reason I let you be was because I felt you needed sometime to yourself but I'm not going to let you keep moping." Nora announced as she pulled my blanket off."Nora I really just want to stay in bed." I croaked out as I sat up and wrapped my arms around myself. If Silas was planning to hand me over to the rogues then he would have to drag me screaming and shouting out of this room."Silas wants
Chapter 74Silas' povI stared down at my feet as I walked. The cool evening breeze was doing nothing to soothe my raging mind.I let out a deep breath as I stopped in front of the garden and my eyes assessed the flowers which were in bloom. If Elara were here she would have known what to do...A rueful smile graced my lips as the image of Elara speaking to the flowers clouded my memory which was soon replaced by the image of Scarlett doing the same thing. At the thought of the rogue, my smile slipped off my face. I felt like I was losing my mind and I didn't even know what to do about it."Stare at that flower any longer, and I fear it will shrivel and die," a voice called out behind me. I turned to stare at Gary, who was approaching me with his walking stick. How hadn't I heard him approach?"Gary, what are you doing here?" I asked as he stopped directly beside me."Good day to you too Alpha," he retorted and I rolled my eyes at the old man's dramatics."Why are you here?" I asked t
Chapter 73Silas' povNora's angry gaze burned a hole into my head but I ignored her as I feigned busy and picked up one of the file from the numerous paperwork I had to do."I never thought you were really as dense as this Silas," Nora said, and my eyes snapped up to hers."Choose your words carefully Nora," I growled as my eyes flashed. Just because she was my sister didn't mean I would let her disrespect me in such a manner."No Silas, I won't. What will you do about it? Send me to the rogues as well?" She was goading me on, I knew it yet it still grated on my nerves."If you wish to be with the rogue so much then yes, I will," I replied as calmly as I could muster as I leaned back and stared up at her."Asher, can you think objectively for a moment please? Drop your stupid ego for a second and think about what you are about to do. Scarlett found a threat note in her room not too long ago after which she was attacked by rogues which doesn't seem like a coincidence and now they want
Chapter 72Silas' povA soft knock broke through my thoughts and I stopped pacing and turned to the door."Come in," I muttered. The door creaked open and Asher entered the room, pinning me with a hard stare."Have you been able to contact the rogues and let them know we are ready to trade the rogue?" I inquired, ignoring his eyes on me."No, I haven't." He replied calmly and my eyes narrowed at him."Why not?" I gritted out."I already told you, I'm not going to help you hand Scarlett over to the rogues. I don't know what's going on with you but you clearly aren't thinking clearly." He announced and anger bubbled within me."You are my beta, Asher," I reminded him."I am aware of that," he replied."You're the beta of the nightshade pack," I continued and he nodded as he folded his arms in front of his chest."I am also aware of that," he replied once more."You are choosing a rogue over your alpha and your pack which you pledged your allegiance to? You are defying my orders?" I aske
Chapter 71Scarlett's povTears blurred my vision as I stared at the door long after Silas had exited the room."He is the most aggravating person I have ever met," Nora announced in annoyance but I remained silent as my thoughts ran wild.If Silas handed me over to the rogues what would become of me? What would the rogues do to me?"Scarlett?" Nora called out to me but I was unable to look away from the door as my chest tightened and my breathing became shallow. The memories of the rogues dragging me away flashed through my mind and different voices rang through my ears.'Just hand over the vial Scarlett,''You can't let them get a hold of the vial,''The white wolves-' I covered my hands over my ears as the voices got louder until they were unbearable."Scarlett? Deep breaths," Nora's distant voice called out to me and I could feel her softly take one of my hands off my ears and place it against her heart.I felt the steady rhythmic beating of her heart against my hand."Let's take
