Chapter two

Elara's pov

"Silas, what is the meaning of this?" I groaned as the wolves held me down and dragged me to the middle of the podium. I struggled against their hold as murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"Is this a sick joke?" I quirked a brow up at my mate who stared at me blankly in return. His eyes were cold and unfeeling and my heart dropped. What was happening?

"Members of the Nightshade pack, we have been attacked by hunters and our pack has taken a significant hit." Silas began as everyone quieted.

"As your Alpha, I have failed every one of you. I have failed all the wolves fighting for their lives in the infirmary as we speak, I have failed all the wolves lying dead and I have failed all the wolves crying and praying for their loved ones," Silas' voice boomed loud and clear throughout the pack grounds.

"In light of this, I have searched endlessly to discover how such a weak species could have information on our pack and deliver such a fatal blow at us," he paused and glanced at me with cold eyes before he turned back to the crowd.

"I have failed all of you in the worst way possible since I discovered it was my mate herself and your Luna who had betrayed us all," He announced, and gasps filled the entire ground as my eyes bulged.

"Silas, what are you doing?" I called out to him as Asher, his beta, handed him a pile of envelopes.

"Are you going to admit it or do I have to force an admission out of you?" Silas asked me.

"I have no idea what you are talking about Silas, if this is a joke it isn't funny anymore," I assessed his features waiting for a grin to spread across his face as he announced he was just kidding but to my disappointment, his features remained hard and as I turned to Asher for help he also stared at me with anger blazing in his eyes.

"In my hands are all your correspondence with the hunters. Everything you ever told them, how you planned with them, and how you revealed as well as compromised border security." Silas threw the envelopes down in front of me but I couldn't reach them because of my restrained hands.

"Silas that isn't possible. I have never been in contact with hunters. You know my scent, you know my handwriting better than anyone surely you can-" I began defending myself.

"Exactly Elara, I know you better than anyone or I thought I did anyway." He cut me off with a growl as he signalled to Asher who sprang into action and opened one of the envelopes, holding out the letter close to my face so that I could read its contents.

My eyes bulged as my scent was all over the letter and as I stared at the letter my mouth dried at the familiar messy scribbles on the paper. Even I was fooled and thought it was my writing, how would I expect Silas to believe any less?

"I'm being framed Silas, you have to believe me," I pleaded as I looked away from the paper and stared up at him.

"What I want to know is why Elara. Why would you betray me...our pack like this?" Silas asked as his eyes reflected rage and hurt.

"I didn't do this Silas, please. I know this looks bad and the evidence seems as plain as day but I didn't write any of that." My eyes willed him to believe me but he remained stoic.

"Someone is trying to frame me and if you don't listen to me you are going to let the real culprit get away with this," I looked from Silas to Asher but neither of them seemed to believe me.

"Were you always this cunning?" Silas growled at me and my heart broke as I saw the hatred and rage in his eyes.

"As the pack law states, any traitor to the pack would be burned at the stake...your Luna is not excluded from that law," Silas announced to our pack as gasps spread out among them and my heart dropped. This couldn't possibly be happening, Silas couldn't do this to me.

Silas loved me as his mate but I also knew how he placed responsibility and his pack before everything else and in this instance it had blinded him.

"Burn her at the stake," Silas declared as some wolves roared in agreement with his decision.

"Silas- Silas," I called out to him as the wolves roughly tugged me to my feet and Silas turned away from me.

"You could at least give me the benefit of the doubt and conduct a thorough investigation," I pleaded but my voice was merely a whisper compared to the raging voices of the pack members, all of whom hurled insults and accusations at me as I was being dragged to the stakes.

"I always knew she was no good for the pack,"

"I wonder how Alpha Silas feels knowing his own mate betrayed him," several pack members talked among themselves as I was dragged into the firm logs of wood. I fought against their hold but even with my wolf's strength I couldn't win against them.

The wolves tied me to the stake and with a single light of a matchstick, the whole stake came to life as fire eagerly licked the flames. Pure fear gripped my heart as my eyes sought out Silas' in the crowd.

Was this it? Was this how I was going to be burned because of a crime I didn't commit?

The flames slowly scathed my body and I writhed against my ties but they were done with great expertise and I knew there was no escape for me.

My wolf howled as the flames consumed me and my eyes met and held with Silas' just before everything slowly faded into nothingness.

I feigned obliviousness, and he shook his head as he approached the bed."How are you feeling?" He asked as he assessed my cuts, which were healing nicely."I'm much better because I have the most attentive doctor," I teased as my cheeks heated under Silas' stare."I can't wait for you to be back to perfect health," he whispered as his eyes landed on my lips and my throat dried."You weren't in bed when I woke up this morning," I pouted, as I had every night since I had returned, slept, and warmed up in Silas' arms."Asher and Nora contrived a plan with the border officers to get me away from you." He growled as his eyes shone with annoyance."I'm sure it's because you weren't letting anyone an inch near me." I pointed out but he frowned."You need-" he began."Your rest," I completed as that was the song Silas seemed to be ringing in my e

Chapter 178Scarlett's pov A soft knock sounded from the door before the door cracked open and Nora slipped into the room. She rushed to my bedside and I could see the mischief in her eyes."What do you think you are doing?" I asked her with a small smile on my face."Do you know what it took me to bypass Silas?" Nora panted and I chuckled. Silas had been keeping a close eye on me for the last two days and he has kept me on strict bedrest. I hadn't left his room since he brought me in and he didn't let anyone in.This was the first time I was seeing Nora since I returned and I was unsure how it would go, she no doubt had a million and one questions to ask me."The way Silas was keeping you under lock and key I was convinced I would find you in a fatal condition." She commented as she settled on the bed beside me."I just had some little cuts, nothing too serious," I told her and she nodded."How are you feeling?" She asked soberly and I knew that was a prelude to a conversation I did

Chapter 177Scarlett's pov I pulled Silas into my arms and his shoulders shook as he sobbed into my neck and a lump lodged in my throat.I recalled all the times I had imagined this very moment but all the other times, I was convinced I would feel a deep sense of satisfaction seeing Silas so broken and on his knees but all I really felt right now was pain.I realized I had forgiven Silas a long time ago and I had fallen in love with him all over ago."Forgive me Elara, please forgive me." Silas kept on whispering into my neck and my heart broke as a single tear slid down my face and I hugged him more tightly."There is nothing to forgive Silas, I already forgave you a long time ago," I told him and he slowly pulled back a bit to stare at me."Do you mean that?" He asked as his red eyes searched my face to ascertain if I was telling him the truth and I offered him a small smile."When I arrived at this pack I was so bitter and enraged. The sight of you alone was enough to make my bloo

A sad smile graced my lips as I recalled the vivid dream I had had about Silas, it had felt so real.I made to rise but then I stopped in my tracks as I realized I was on a bed. I looked down at the bed before I proceeded to survey my surroundings and my heart hammered against my ribcage as I realized I was in Silas' room. How was this even possible? That could only mean...it was, in fact, not a dream and Silas had indeed found me, but how could that be?I let out a shaky breath as I made to rise from the bed once more, ignoring Silas' overpowering scent which wafted around the room, but pain shot through me."It would be better if you stay on the bed, you haven't healed properly." A voice called out to me and my head immediately snapped towards the window and there he was.Silas was leaning against the wall beside the window and staring into the night. He slowly turned his head and hi

Chapter 175Scarlett's pov I groaned as I dragged myself against the tree and allowed my legs to give up as I crumbled onto the floor and leaned against the tree.I had to keep going, I knew I had to keep going if I didn't want the rogues to catch up with me but I just couldn't.My breaths were shallow and I knew I had lost a lot of blood. I assessed my cuts and tried to stop the bleeding as best as I could with whatever herb I could find around me.I hoped I hadn't left a trail for the rogues because they would easily be able to trace and capture me and I would be completely unable to stop them.I stretched my hands out in front of me and assessed them, wondering if that was what Scarlett meant when she told me to look within myself. My hands and chest still tingled from the power that surged through me and I wondered how the hell I was able to escape so many rogues.I knew the power I had hadn't been mine and that could only mean it had been Scarlett's. I touched my chest as I reca

Nora broke the silence between us and I felt Asher's presence behind me."Is what true?" I asked and Nora's nostrils flared."Don't do that, don't act oblivious when you know exactly what I'm asking." She gritted out but I remained calmly silent in front of her."Is Scarlett really Elara?" She probbed and I quirked a brow at her."Who told you that?" I asked as I turned back to Asher who looked away from me guiltily."Don't blame him, I literally had to force it out of him because I noticed he was acting weird," Nora called out and I turned back to her."Scarlett is Elara," I announced and Nora wobbled on her feet almost as though she would crumble to the floor and Asher brushed past me and held her in his arms, holding h
