Chapter two

Elara's pov

"Silas, what is the meaning of this?" I groaned as the wolves held me down and dragged me to the middle of the podium. I struggled against their hold as murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"Is this a sick joke?" I quirked a brow up at my mate who stared at me blankly in return. His eyes were cold and unfeeling and my heart dropped. What was happening?

"Members of the Nightshade pack, we have been attacked by hunters and our pack has taken a significant hit." Silas began as everyone quieted.

"As your Alpha, I have failed every one of you. I have failed all the wolves fighting for their lives in the infirmary as we speak, I have failed all the wolves lying dead and I have failed all the wolves crying and praying for their loved ones," Silas' voice boomed loud and clear throughout the pack grounds.

"In light of this, I have searched endlessly to discover how such a weak species could have information on our pack and deliver such a fatal blow at us," he paused and glanced at me with cold eyes before he turned back to the crowd.

"I have failed all of you in the worst way possible since I discovered it was my mate herself and your Luna who had betrayed us all," He announced, and gasps filled the entire ground as my eyes bulged.

"Silas, what are you doing?" I called out to him as Asher, his beta, handed him a pile of envelopes.

"Are you going to admit it or do I have to force an admission out of you?" Silas asked me.

"I have no idea what you are talking about Silas, if this is a joke it isn't funny anymore," I assessed his features waiting for a grin to spread across his face as he announced he was just kidding but to my disappointment, his features remained hard and as I turned to Asher for help he also stared at me with anger blazing in his eyes.

"In my hands are all your correspondence with the hunters. Everything you ever told them, how you planned with them, and how you revealed as well as compromised border security." Silas threw the envelopes down in front of me but I couldn't reach them because of my restrained hands.

"Silas that isn't possible. I have never been in contact with hunters. You know my scent, you know my handwriting better than anyone surely you can-" I began defending myself.

"Exactly Elara, I know you better than anyone or I thought I did anyway." He cut me off with a growl as he signalled to Asher who sprang into action and opened one of the envelopes, holding out the letter close to my face so that I could read its contents.

My eyes bulged as my scent was all over the letter and as I stared at the letter my mouth dried at the familiar messy scribbles on the paper. Even I was fooled and thought it was my writing, how would I expect Silas to believe any less?

"I'm being framed Silas, you have to believe me," I pleaded as I looked away from the paper and stared up at him.

"What I want to know is why Elara. Why would you betray me...our pack like this?" Silas asked as his eyes reflected rage and hurt.

"I didn't do this Silas, please. I know this looks bad and the evidence seems as plain as day but I didn't write any of that." My eyes willed him to believe me but he remained stoic.

"Someone is trying to frame me and if you don't listen to me you are going to let the real culprit get away with this," I looked from Silas to Asher but neither of them seemed to believe me.

"Were you always this cunning?" Silas growled at me and my heart broke as I saw the hatred and rage in his eyes.

"As the pack law states, any traitor to the pack would be burned at the stake...your Luna is not excluded from that law," Silas announced to our pack as gasps spread out among them and my heart dropped. This couldn't possibly be happening, Silas couldn't do this to me.

Silas loved me as his mate but I also knew how he placed responsibility and his pack before everything else and in this instance it had blinded him.

"Burn her at the stake," Silas declared as some wolves roared in agreement with his decision.

"Silas- Silas," I called out to him as the wolves roughly tugged me to my feet and Silas turned away from me.

"You could at least give me the benefit of the doubt and conduct a thorough investigation," I pleaded but my voice was merely a whisper compared to the raging voices of the pack members, all of whom hurled insults and accusations at me as I was being dragged to the stakes.

"I always knew she was no good for the pack,"

"I wonder how Alpha Silas feels knowing his own mate betrayed him," several pack members talked among themselves as I was dragged into the firm logs of wood. I fought against their hold but even with my wolf's strength I couldn't win against them.

The wolves tied me to the stake and with a single light of a matchstick, the whole stake came to life as fire eagerly licked the flames. Pure fear gripped my heart as my eyes sought out Silas' in the crowd.

Was this it? Was this how I was going to be burned because of a crime I didn't commit?

The flames slowly scathed my body and I writhed against my ties but they were done with great expertise and I knew there was no escape for me.

My wolf howled as the flames consumed me and my eyes met and held with Silas' just before everything slowly faded into nothingness.

Chapter 133Andrew's POV As I began to recite my vows to Diana, I spotted the movement in the crowd. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Vera walk out of the hall. My chest tightened. Where was she going? Then Diana's fingers gently slipped into mine pulling me back to the moment. My gaze met hers. She smiled at me, hoping I wouldn't ruin tonight for her.I continued to recite my vows, though my heart wasn't in them. My thoughts drifted to Vera's well-being at that moment. I couldn't help but wonder if she was in pain or if she was crying her eyes out right now.“And I, Diana Tari, lady of Tarigarden accept Alpha Andrew—” before she could finish her vows. A loud howl echoed outside the pack; every head in the room turned toward the open entrance door.“What was that?” Diana muttered, her voice trembled. Everyone began to murmur worriedly. My first concern was Vera. I released my hands from Diana's, “Stay here." I said to her before stepping down from the aisle in one swift motion as

Chapter 132Vera's POVThe moon festival finally arrived, which was late enough. All was well, and the decorations were completed by some maids and Cathryn. Cathryn made a spur-of-the-moment decision to combine the moon flowers and lilies. And it just looked perfect.I helped with the decorations as well, my gaze swept across the room now and then to see if I could see Andrew anywhere. Rick was not around. None of them had I seen since morning, and it was darkening so fast already.I asked Cathryn if she had any idea where they all went but she was just as clueless.Diana prepared for the day, makeup artists, designers, and fashionistas were all in her room preparing her. It was her day.And it was a special day for me too. That Andrew was going to be free from his curse was something special.“Child, you've done your share," Cathryn told me, smoothing out the sheen on my back. I smiled at her, completing the vase with the last sprig of flowers."Everything looks so lovely," I told he

Chapter 131Phil's POV The green light glowed from within the jar, a thousand more jars of wildfire explosives stocked up inside an underground tunnel. It was magnificent.I'd never believe that wildfire still existed if I didn't trust Sinclair to tell the truth. Now, I was seeing it with my own eyes—how could I not believe it? The jar was then closed up, “This is mind-blowing." I said to Sinclair as we stood inside the dimly lit tunnel with extra torchlights in our hands. One of the gamma that had closed the jar, took it back up to where the other jars were stockpiled.“I know. It would certainly be enough to bring Hon’s entire territory down to ashes,” Sinclair replied.“Tell me, who else has been down here?" I asked. “Honestly, you'd be the first outsider. My own wife didn't even want to be here. She says it's too dark and scary with all the explosives.”Sinclair explained, “Why do you ask?" “We can't trust anyone. News flies so fast and I wouldn't be surprised if Hon already kn

Chapter 130Lucy's POV Bummer!I should have hidden them—they were supposed to be thrown away after use. It was all I thought of as I watched the shocked expression on Phil's face.“Phil, I can explain,” I said softly, but deep down I had nothing to give as an excuse. And that only made Phil angrier. He entered my room, slamming the door behind him.“What explanation do you have for this?” He asked, his teeth gritted. With the way he was fuming with anger, it made me gulp the sudden lump that appeared in my throat. And honestly, I have never seen Phil this infuriated.“I'm listening, Lucy," he added loudly. And at that moment, all I had in mind was to speak the truth. Lying was my thing, but suddenly I couldn't find a lie in this awkward situation. Then Phil's phone rang, disrupting the heated moment which gave me a little bit of time to think of a lie. But nothing came forth. In a situation like this, Phil declined the call, shoving his phone back into his pocket. His gaze darkened

Chapter 129Phil's POV “Carlos?" Sinclair snapped."What kind of baby name is that?" he hissed, “It sounds odd—like saying ‘Careless’.My brows drew together, “No, it definitely doesn't sound like that." I said flatly, my tone laced with exhaustion. I had come to pay Sinclair a visit, to discuss more about the war but somehow the conversation diverted to baby names. He was a proud father, eager to have a name for his baby—a baby he had no idea what gender it was.“Fine, here's another one.” Keith thought, "Serevus.” He said. Sinclair scoffed, "Now, that sounds like, ‘Serve us.’ if you say it really fast.” “Serevus." He repeated. We all laughed at him.Having clowns like Keith and Sinclair in a gathering wasn't really advisable if you intend on doing something serious. Although—all I wanted to do was dive deeper into matters concerning the war, but then, it had been a while I genuinely laughed this way—so hard that my jaws began to hurt.“Then name him after you. Sinclair Junior." I

Chapter 128Andrew's POVRick was helping me test some clothes for the upcoming festival and Vera was present because I had pleaded with her to be here. Because women do have a genuine opinion regarding issues such as this. And she was good at it. Maybe a little annoyed, too. She stood with her arms folded across her chest, leaning into the doorframe as she inspected my outfit as if I were in court."Very retro," she said finally, and for a moment, the tense shoulders on me eased."Aww, it's the festival theme." Rick interrupted gladly. We had a final verdict after a few costumes were turned down."It's retro and all that, but is it Alphaly enough?" I asked. Before Vera had time to respond, the door cracked open and Diana marched in without knocking. Her eyes swept past each one of us, then at Vera for a fleeting moment before concentrating on me finally. "I need to talk to you," she declared, her tone cold enough to cut through the air.Vera gazed at me with a raised eyebrow, and she
