As she held out the discarded dress she had just stepped out of, he scowled. He knew she was still feeling so sour about herself, but from what she had told him, it wasn’t her fault. They, her family, had wanted to force her into a marriage because of their own gain, whatever it was that was promised. “I’ll go get you a waste bag.” He said, as he looked at her and saw that her eyes had started to water.
“Try getting into the sweatpants and shirt before you freeze to death.” He said, but suddenly, he realized what he had said and wanted to kick himself for the careless choice of words. He walked out of his room and walked slowly downstairs to the kitchen where the bag was. This was going to be a long day for both of them because he really still doesn’t have a job for her. He had thought that the Alex coming over was a man, so he had prepared for him to be the butler; even though he seldom need one. He had mentioned being the housekeeper but he really wasn’t sure what that could entail. He walked back upstairs with the bag in hand, opening it on his way to his room. He handed it to her and walked to sit on the bed. It took her ages to fold and put the discarded gown into it. He could only guess at the distress she must be feeling, but thankfully, she was dressed, and he didn’t have to see her in the white small underwear gown that was beneath the dress she had taken off. Anyway, before this was going to be settled, Gabe knew he had to tell Alex about himself, that he wasn’t human, at least, that was required of when he hired a human to work for him. He didn’t normally have human work for him, but this was a different case. He assumed that she knew about them and she was going to be all right with it, so he cleared his throat. “You see, Alex. I’m like Cara, as you know, we are really a clan that loves our privacy. I would like for you to sign a contract that will bind you legally for your discretion on this, and working for me.” He said. Alex frowned, not sure she was following. The scent emitting from the sweat clothes that were given to her clouded her senses. It had Gabe's scent all over it and she wondered what it would be like to be with the real deal. She looked at the man that was now seated on the bed and said. “Huh?” her eyes filled with questions about what he was saying and what it meant.“You should focus when you’re being spoken to. It’s rude if you do otherwise.” He said. Alex furrowed her brows even deeper. What was this about and why was he being all moody suddenly? She nodded her head and said. “I'm sorry. I was gone there for like a second so I missed what you said.” Gabe blew out a breath and then he cleared his throat. “As I said, I’m like Cara, as you know, we are really a clan that loves our privacy. I would like for you to sign a contract that will bind you legally for your discretion on this, and working for me.” He repeated. Understanding clearly the part where she had to sign a contract; she wasn’t dumb, she would read it through, she nodded, but then she frowned at the first sentence on him being like Cara. What was he trying to tell her? Gabe could see the confusion in her eyes and he wondered if she knew what he was. He was going to have to explain. “I'm like Cara, a werewolf. I’m sure you know that, since you’re best friend with Cara, or you must have heard about us.” He said. Squinting her eyes, for a couple of moments, she was silent as she processed the words he had just said. She remembered one drunken night with Cara while they were still in college and she had told her something she thought she had watched in a movie. They had been hearing about this, but most humans think that it was just a myth. When Cara told her this, she had just chalked it up to acting out and wanting attention from her. She had never repeated it to her again. Flashback…“I need to tell you something, Alex,” Cara said, and Alex shook her head. God, she reeked of alcohol. She wasn’t sure why she was this drunk, but something must be happening. She was grateful that she had called her to come to drive her home though, better than getting behind the wheels of the car herself and possibly getting into an accident, killing herself, if not someone else. She grabbed the place under her arms to steady her as she tripped, almost falling. What’s going on with her? She wondered, but she knew she would have to ask her tomorrow when she was sober. Normally, Cara held her alcohol all right, but she must have drank past her limit and that was a clear sign that something was wrong. “I need to tell you something, Alex.” She repeated as she tried to search her bag for the car keys. “Shut up, for now, Cara. I need to get you home.” She grunted as she fished out the keys and walked them both to the car. She got her in and buckled her seat belt before walking around the car to the driver's seat. She had just started the car when Cara blurted out something strange. “I'm not like you, Alex. I’m not human, so it’s difficult for me to blend in. I’m trying not to let people see who I am. I’m a werewolf, half wolf, half human, and I almost showed myself to your world, only it would startle them, and it might be disastrous.” She said. Slamming her feet on the brake, she looked at Cara and asked. “What do you mean you’re a werewolf?” But, she had closed her eyes, and she was now snoring softly. At the time, she had paused to think for a long time, but at last, she had shaken it off, smiled at her silliness, and drove them home. She never asked her of it, ever, and Cara never said anything about it again, they had become closer and closer even. End of flashback…“Are you all right?” Gabe asked as he watched her, and she nodded. This was the time to make a decision whether or not to stay here with someone mystical, someone she had never come across before, or go back to marrying Alberto. She could reject working here and not going back to Seattle, but she would be lying to herself if she said she would survive, and this was the only help she could take from Cara. Nodding, she said. “I understand. I’ll sign them and start work as soon as I'm settled.” “Good, now let’s get you started.”“I would take you now to your room, and after you’re done with whatever women do to calm down, be down in the living room, and I'll show you around.” Those were his words when he told her to follow him. At the end of the hall of his room, Gabe stopped at the door that was there, and he grabbed the doorknob to open it. “This is your room. I hope you find it to your liking.” He said. Alex looked around the room at the rich way it was decorated, from the curtains against the window to the rug on the floor and the bedspread. It had no particular design to say it was made for a woman, but it was looking a bit feminine. The wall was painted in green, a darker shade than her eye color, and the curtains are cream in color. The rug on the floor was brown and black, but other colors complemented the curtains, except for the furniture. She had thought that he would be taking her to some guest or servant quarters but here they were. The chair at the corner shoved against the wall was padded, a
Frowning, she squinted her eyes but faced Max again. As she grabbed his outstretched hand, he retrieved it as if he had been burned, but his smile was in place. “It’s nice to meet you both. I’m Alex and will be the housekeeper. I’ll also handle your food if that’s okay.” She said. She saw them look at Gabe then nodded their heads and she folded her hands behind her. There was something about the way they had both kept their hands behind them instead of shaking her that made her mirror their actions. Gabe had told Max not to touch her, he didn’t have to open his mouth because they were both werewolves like he was and they could communicate through their thoughts. Even if he wasn’t the alpha of their clan, they would still do as they were told because he was their boss. No one should touch her, and it included everyone. He didn’t even bother to hide his irritation at Max as he offered his hand, and worse, couldn’t control or stop the growl from escaping his mouth. Thankfully, Alex d
She had thought that Cara would be here first thing, but since that wasn’t the case, after getting breakfast ready, and Gabe out of the house to go for a meeting, she started to look around the house, scanning every little detail. Perhaps, she would be able to tell more about who Gabe was by studying the furniture and the way the house was designed and decorated. She could tell that every piece was expensive and rare; limited editions, they call it now. Everything looked all shiny and new, even though she could tell it had been there for a while. The cleaner was doing a good job then. She would be meeting her tomorrow. She had worked long years for Gabe and would be able to answer some of Alex's questions, questions she couldn’t ask Gabe himself. This house was very huge, and the only thing she had been able to gather so far was Gabe's love for his privacy. She wanted to know more though, and that was why her eyes were fixated on the things around the house. She wanted so badly to fi
Gabe kept thinking about the woman that he had left at home, the one that was now working for him during his meeting with a smile on his face. As the elevator opened up, he picked out his phone to call the personal shopper Cara referred. She had called him this morning to let him know that she had a prior arrangement she couldn’t get out of so she couldn’t come over. She had also sent her the list of what Alex would be needing as clothes and then a phone. According to her, she would get the other female-related products, slash toiletries. When the call was picked up, he briefly told the woman at the other end his address and told her that she would be sending the list of what was needed. It turned out that she was expecting his call as Cara had called her as well. He got into the backseat of the car as its door was held open for him. “Are we going home straight from here sir?” Fabio asked even though he already knew the answer to that. Of course, they were going home. He had nothin
She stirred, moving her arm from the uncomfortable position it was in, and she felt the heat against her belly. Moaning, she stirred again, and she started to become conscious. Still, with her eyes closed, she woke up, not fully, but she had started to think, and the first thought that came to her was the fact that she had fallen asleep. It was needed, seeing as she had been unable to sleep last night until the early hours of the morning. She knew that it wasn’t an excuse and she needed to get up soon to go make lunch. Thankfully, Gabe wasn’t around, so it would be just her own food, and the gardener’s, if he was interested. She sighed and then, something popped into her head as she remembered Gabe. She had fallen asleep in his room, in his bed. That was her passing her boundary. That snapped her awake fully, but she still had her eyes closed. She should get the hell up and out of here before someone find her splayed on her employer's bed. Just as she was about to open her eyes, sh
Everything seeped out of her as she stood in the kitchen with tears pouring out of her face. Now, in the clear view of things, she saw that this was her fault. She had brought this upon herself. She felt the tears rush down her face and she quickly used her thumb to clean it off, but another fell, and then another. She sat down on one of the chairs and buried her head in the palm of her hands. She realized that she wasn’t crying because of what had just happened, even though it had incited the tears, she was crying because of the things she had been going through back at home. Alex sometimes wondered if her parents were her parents, the way they treated her and all, making her work nine hours every day and then taking her pay when they wanted. She thought back to the fact that they had wanted her to marry Alberto, a man twice her age, just because he was rich. Furrowing her brows, she cleaned her face again, just as the kitchen door opened behind her. Her shoulders squared, and she
The kiss didn’t happen, because she ran. She was scared that that would send her packing before she was even able to start. She had seen the way his eyes flickered from hers to her mouth and that had been the reason she had pushed with all her might and escaped. Two days later, she was still avoiding him. There was something about the way he looked at her that night that scared her, something that made her know that it wasn’t just her imagination. She guessed that it was just the spur of the moment thing. Someone as hot as Gabriel Berkeley wouldn’t look at her like she was a delicious meal. Perhaps, she had read too much into it, and it was a trick of her mind. Two good days and she had been avoiding him, making sure that she had come downstairs very early to make breakfast, only to have it served and then disappear, appearing back when he had left the house for work. Cara still hadn’t shown up, but she had called to talk to her last night, promising to be here this morning. She wa
Shaking her head, Cara chuckled at the question. Well, she couldn’t blame her for wanting to know about them if she would be living with one, and an alpha at that. Alex nodded then she said. “After breakfast, do you think that you can show me?” it was a question that Cara understood, but she pretended not to, not sure that was all right. It was true that Alex was her best friend, and the most decent human she had ever had the chance to come across, but she was skeptical about showing herself to her in her true form because it was really risky. “I want you to show me how you change into a wolf. At least, I’ve heard a little about it, so maybe showing me would ease my worries about you guys.” She said. Sighing, Cara said. “Fine. I’ll do it, but you can’t tell anyone. I’ll do it in the woods where Gabe usually runs.” She promised. They sat down to eat breakfast ten minutes later with Max at the table as well. He had come into the kitchen after she was done cooking. It took them less
