Chapter 4

Lyra POV

Caius jumps in before the silver blade can even touch my skin. His big body crashes into the person wearing a mask making an disgusting sound that shakes the whole floor. Ronan is behind him his claws coming out instantly as he holds the attackers arms down while Lucien pulls me behind his back to protect me from the blood flying everywhere.

"Who told you to come into our house?" Caius asks in an scary voice pushing his heavy boot down on the attackers throat.

The man with the mask just coughs up blood, he smirks at Caius before dropping dead. 

The next morning is totally crazy on campus. By noon the Headmaster calls us into his office to talk about what happened. Kael is already standing by the desk his fists clenched tight as he glares at the three brothers standing close to me.

"Someone in this school wants Lyra dead " the Headmaster says. "So to keep her safe I am putting her under the protection of the Voss brothers for now." He signs a paper before Kael can even say anything.

"This is ridiculous Headmaster " Kael says, his face twisted in anger. "You are connecting a girl from my area to these outsiders. It is a big insult to my family."

"You said you did not want her, Kael " Lucien says calmly. His eyes are still cold and sharp. "So you do not get to decide who protects her. Just worry about the students who have disappeared near the forest."

We leave the office together. As we walk down the steps Lucien leans in close to his brothers.

"I looked at the attackers body before they took it away " Lucien says in a voice. "I found symbols carved into his skin, which means there is a secret group operating right here, in our school. 

"Selene Ashford was talking to some elders near the training grounds earlier today and there are rumors that a monster is killing people in the woods. I dont see how those two are connecyed but We need to stay alert " Ronan says as he rests his hand on the hilt of his training blade as we walk toward the combat arena.

The afternoon combat trials are a must for all students. As I step onto the dirt field the crowd starts to jeer. And the first person my eyes lay on is Selene who watching from the top stands with a blank loolon her face.

"Lets see how long the weak omega lasts without Kael to protect her " Marcus, an Alpha male says stepping onto the mats with his chest out, his claws showing.

"Don't do this Marcus, I don't want to fight you " I say. I take a step back.. He laughs loudly and lunges forward. His heavy hand aims a strike straight at my face.

Before his hand can hit me I feel a strange freezing sensation in my chest and My inner wolf lets out a roar that echoes through the arena. A huge wave of golden energy shoots out, from my body. It hits Marcus hard and he flies backward into the stone wall. The impact also knocks three high-ranking Alphas unconscious.

The whole crowd becomes absolutely silent with fear and disbelief as everyone sees that the rumors are true, and I am not that weak.

I look down at my shaking hands because of the sudden use of strength, and my knees completely fold due to the immense power that I was able to muster up, and I find myself falling down into the floor. Lucien quickly runs out into the middle of the field, taking hold of me and putting me on his shoulder as he drags me off the field.

Kael stands at the edge of the arena looking completely pale as he sees how Lucien supports me and helps me get away, and the sorrow in his eyes is evident, but I refuse to even look at him.

In the evening, the Voss brothers gather in the living room by the fireplace, watching me as I try to keep myself warm in my blanket after being shaken by the events of the day.

“Lyra, you’ve done exceptionally well, but there is obviously something bothering you. You’ve been very sileny for the past hours,” Caius says to me, leaning against the mantelpiece with a worried expression on his face.

"Kael has broken my self-confidence completely by making me think that without his care and protection, I am absolutely nobody, but today, I could see that he had lied to me,” I tell him quietly, unable to hold back the tear which slides down my face now as I break down emotionally.

Caius grits his teeth and from the emotions I now feel, I could tell he was angry. It's surprising how I went from someone who no one cares about to someone who full fledge men had committed murder for 

"He will pay for everything that he did to you. You means far too much for that,” Caius growls, taking my chin

in his hand and forcing me to look at him.
