Olivia's POV:
I swear I saw the look of desire cross Mark's eyes, as his lips parted to say something, but the door to my hospital room burst open and my foster mother, Nancy George, walked in, accompanied by her daughter, Emily. Their eyes locked on Mark and me, who were so close together on my bed. Oh no! Not again, I pondered, as I could feel my heart beating loudly in my chest. To my shock, Nancy didn't scream at me like I had expected her to do. And I remember Dr. Sam's warning to Mark that he would have my foster mother arrested for my sake. But that didn't stop her from peering at me contemptuously. "What's going on here, Mark? Why are you here? Shouldn't you be in the basketball field, preparing for your match for today?" asked Nancy, as she peered at her son angrily. "Good morning, Mom. I already called my coach and he said the match will not start until 12 p.m. today," Mark replied with a calm voice, but his mother frowned. "Mmm. So why are you here to check on Olivia? You should stay away from her. You can have any girl in this pack that you want. Why are you hovering around this worthless, wolfless girl? Do you want to bring shame to our family!" Nancy demanded, as she stood glaring at Mark. My head was aching, and I held my aching head, as I remembered each word that Nancy used to insult me every day of my life. I wasn't the only child born on a moonless night, but I was the only one whose parents rejected me, and I ended up getting adopted by a family that wouldn't fail to taunt me with it. "Mom, you have no right to tell me how I should treat Olivia. She is still my sister, as I have grown up having her around. If you don't have anything good to say, then leave!" Mark spat, pointing at the door, and my jaw dropped. "What? You are sending me away because of this thing? You will surely bring her home, and I will deal with her by myself. Let's go, Emily! We shouldn't have come here to check on the slut!" Nancy shouted, her hand reaching to drag her daughter as she led Emily away. Emily wore a short black dress and a pair of brown shoes. She glared at me as our gaze met, but seeing her older brother in the room, she was afraid of Mark, so she held her tongue and ran out after her mother. "You don't have to be scared of them," Mark said, his deep voice breaking my chain of thought but not enough to calm my rapid heartbeat. "But, they're your family, right? If you keep causing problems for me and your family, how do you expect me to cope? Just stay away from me!" I cried and yelled at Mark, sending him away too. He cannot be acting like he cared for me, when he was obviously making his mother hate me even more. "Hey, relax, I am still here and I haven't gone," Mark refused to leave, and I ended up shedding tears and screaming at him, "Get out! Leave me alone!" Doctor Sam and another female nurse came rushing into the hospital room that I was admitted into. "What's going on here? Mark, you have to take your leave. You're not helping your sister to recover by staying here. Do you want her to suffer more strain on her head? Leave!" Dr. Sam's voice was harsh, as he pointed at the door for Mark to leave. Mark looked at me and then at Dr. Sam. "Fine, I will leave," he replied, his voice calm as he walked ahead to the door. Once he reached the door, he pulled it open and exited the room, and I burst out crying on the bed. "It's okay, everything will be fine," Dr. Sam said with a soothing voice, but I didn't want to hear him out. "Everything cannot be fine, doctor. What do I do if my family sends me away? I have no family or friends to accommodate me?" I sobbed on the bed. I could feel Mark's presence behind the door. Dr. Sam heaved a sigh and asked, "Can you come and stay with me? I can offer you an accommodation at my home." "No…" Before I could finish my response, Mark stormed back into the room and grasped Dr. Sam by his shirt, lifting him off the ground with the level of strength that I didn't know he had. "You fụcking ásshole. Why are you trying to snatch my sister to come and live with you?" Mark growled at Dr. Sam. "Mark, let go of Dr. Sam!" I yelled at him, shocked by his entrance. Mark glared at Dr. Sam and let go of him. "You shouldn't listen to him. I am sure he has ulterior motives for asking you to come to his house. Do not worry. I will speak to Mom and Dad when I get home, and they will not hurt you again. Alright?" Mark's eyes locked with mine, and something in the way that he peered at me made me want to believe that he will be able to speak to his family. But wouldn't that worsen the whole situation? As I looked between Mark and Dr. Sam, who adjusted his shirt after Mark had grabbed him. Dr. Sam spat, "Mark, I do not understand why you are not allowing Olivia to move out of your parents' home? She is almost 18 years old, or already 18, because we are not so sure of her date of birth. So you cannot be a controlling freak of a brother. I am only trying to help her, and your threat won't prevent me from offering to help her. As a doctor, my duty is to save lives. So my offer is still on." "Olivia," Dr. Sam turned to face me and said, "Whenever you're ready to move out of your foster parents' home, you can come to my place. My sister spoke so much about you and your academic performance. I wouldn't want your intelligence to go to waste, so when you feel a need to move out, you can reach out to me." "Mmmm…" Mark glared at Dr. Sam, who stood unfazed as he spoke to me softly. "Okay, Doctor. I will consider your offer later. Thank you," I said, feeling relief. Dr. Sam smiled, glared at Mark, and walked away from the room with the nurse. As the door closed, Mark looked at me intensely and asked, "You are not serious about moving to his house, right? He's a man; what makes you think that he doesn't have any ulterior motives against you?" I pouted my lips, unable to reply, and Mark drew near me on the bed, suffocating me with his forest grass scent as he said, "Trust me, Olivia. I will speak to my parents." "Fine, but if they don't change, I will move out," I replied, shifting my gaze to lock with his face. So close that I could feel my heart beating faster.Olivia's POV:"Mark, where are you?" I heard Mr. Wren's voice boom over the call. He didn't appreciate me calling him Dad—a constant reminder that he was not my real father, even though he had adopted me alongside his wife."Dad, I am in the hospital," Mark replied, his voice calm as he ran a hand over his short black wavy hair."Why are you in the hospital? I hope it's not because of Olivia that you went there. Your mother spoke about Olivia waking up today," Mr. Wren asked, and Mark hummed."Yes, Dad. I had to come and check on Olivia because she is my sister, and I was the one who brought her to the hospital for admission," he said, as I finished my ice cream and licked my lips.Mark looked at me with his shining yellow eyes, and our gazes locked, but I swiftly lowered my head, feeling my heart thudding faster in my chest. Why do I feel this way? Why am I so uncomfortable around Mark?"Is there anything going on between you and Olivia, Mark? Why do you seem to care so much about he
Olivia's POV:I had woken up from my afternoon nap when the hospital room door swung open."Who is there?" I sat up on the bed, feeling a bit better after waking up from my sleep. My headache had also lessened. However, my eyes widened in shock when I saw Mark return to the room. His yellow eyes met my blue eyes, locking with them, and I became so nervous and lowered my head."Hi, how are you doing?" Mark asked, his voice soft as he walked up to the hospital bed to meet me.Before I could respond, the hospital room door burst open again, and Dr. Sam entered and peered at us."What do you want, Doctor?" Mark asked, before I could. His voice was laced with irritation as he peered at Dr. Sam's face coldly."I should be the one asking you, Mark. You came here uninvited, and I need to keep watch to ensure that you are not doing anything to harm my patient," Dr. Sam replied bluntly, and my eyes widened in shock."How can I hurt Olivia? She is my sister, and it's my duty to protect her!" Mar
Mark's POV:Olivia was absentmindedly dressing in her room, so I hurriedly slipped out after seeing her náked. Thankfully, she didn't participate in any pack's activity because she did not have a wolf. Also, she has never celebrated her birthday before, as we only assumed her age. Mom and Dad didn't know who Olivia's real parents were. Except for the fact that she was dumped in a basket in front of the pack's orphanage home.I felt a pressing desire to protect Olivia, to claim her as mine. And I believe maybe that was why my parents had adopted her.Looking away from Emily's stern face, I smiled at Ava and said, "I came to shop for my lunch.""That's fine, Mark. I'm sorry that I missed coming to watch your basketball game against the Red Ballers. I was busy in class and I couldn't miss it," she said, her hand reaching out to touch my chiseled chest as she bit her bottom lip seductively.Stepping away from Ava's touch, I replied, "It's nothing that you should worry about. It's just a f
Mark's POV:"Wait, Mark! Where are you rushing to? We want to have a little celebration party for winning against the Red Ballers now, and yet, you're in a hurry. Is there something that you're hiding from us?" Daniel asked, moving forward to meet me. His gaze fixed on me coldly as he smirked.I didn't like how Daniel Ryan pointed out his questions, drawing the attention of our colleagues."It's personal. And I do not need to tell you," I replied, my voice calm, my eyes meeting Daniel's gaze. He was angry because Olivia rejected his advance toward her before he settled for Emily. How was that my fault?"Don't lie to us, Mark!" Daniel yelled, his eyes shooting daggers at me. "If at all you want to lie, you should have a little respect for Alpha Bryan!""Let him go, Daniel. I have no interest in what Mark wants to go and do. And since he said it's personal, you don't have to pick on him," Bryan chimed in, his voice gentle and trying to settle the rift between Daniel and me."Daniel, Bry
Olivia's POV:The sound of Mark's phone ringing broke the awkward silence, and he said, "I have to go now, Olivia. Take care."Mark darted out of the room, and I breathed out heavily, feeling exhausted. A nurse arrived with a health worker who served me breakfast as I saw that it was past 11 a.m.It was a plate of custard and two bean cakes."How do you feel?" the female nurse asked me with a friendly smile on her pretty brown face, and I saw her resemblance to Dr. Sam. Also, she resembled Erica Robin, my schoolmate."I am fine," I said, my voice calm and she nodded with a smile, as she was tall, chubby, and had long brown thick hair. She packed it in a ponytail, wearing a white nurse cap on her head."Alright. Take care of yourself. I'm Nurse Hazel Owen. Dr. Sam's elder sister. I'm married with two kids," she introduced herself with a soft voice, and I could feel my heart flutter at her words."Nice to meet you, Nurse Hazel," I replied, peering at her beautiful face. As I wondered wh
