She Was Not Mine

I first laid my eyes upon Rhian; I understood she was different. On my first day in the Blood Moon Pack, I spotted her when my father decided that I did not fit for the deity life with him above. My skin under my clothes was blue and yellow from the abuse I'd had to endure the night before. I was in great pain, and she smiled at me like a princess from one of those Disney tales as humans enjoy this kind of movie. Since Ayla was young, I used to guard her; I could continue doing so but not in my deity form; I could be in the body form and shapeshift to a werewolf. I felt reborn even after living a thousand years as a deity.

And while a typical kid would have gladly made friends with the cute girl, I stood frozen. It was as if my feet had grown their gnarled roots and stuck them in the ground. I had never been faced with kindness, and my initial instinct was to run, but then I clenched my fists and fought to steal the spade and bucket from her.
