Chapter 10

Skylar has finally managed to calm Cheyenne down.

She was sitting against the wall, puffy, red eyed and chapped lipped while Skylar was soothing her a bit more.

“Tell me what happened. Can you do that?” Skylar asked as calmly as he could as he fought down his wolf.

He rubbed her hand a little more, trying to comfort her, not wanting to get to close and sending her into another panic attack.

Cheyenne looked so fearful and paranoid but never pulled her hand away from his.

She was quiet, didn’t say anything and looked like she was in a state of shock.

Skylar knew she probably wouldn’t talk anytime soon and came to terms with it. All he could do was get her home safely.

Skylar slowly made his move towards her to help her stand. Cheyenne flinched but didn’t protest, following Skylar’s lead out to his car.

He buckled her in and realized she had things with her.

“I’ll go get your jacket and stuff.” Skylar said, turning away to go back inside.

Cheyenne gripped his shirt, pulling him back.

Skylar looked at her, confused.

“Please don’t leave me alone.” She said, in a scratching soft voice.

She was dehydrated and Skylar was sure her throat probably hurt.

“Okay, okay. I’ll take you home.”

Cheyenne shook her head, tears starting to stream again.

Bending down to her level, Skylar wipes her tears from her eyes and cupped her cheeks so she was looking at him.

“It’s okay, princess. It’s okay. Where can I take you.” Skylar asked, softly.

Sniffling, Cheyenne pointed to him, and then rested her hand on his chest where his heart is.

“Just don’t leave me alone.”

Skylar’s eyebrows furrowed and nodded.

“Okay. I’ll take you back to the pack house, yeah?”

Cheyenne nodded.

Skylar closed her door and went around to his side and got in.

She said nothing more but those five words all the way back to the pack house.

Skylar pulled into the drive way and turned the car off, glancing at Cheyenne. She only stared forward, eyes glossy and puffy with tears and a distant look.

Getting out of the car, Skylar made his way to her side and opened her door, unbuckling her seatbelt.

“Come on, Princess.” Skylar whispered, reaching for her.

Cheyenne surprised him by leaning into his hold as he pulled her out of the car, bridal style.

Cheyenne held on to him as if her life depended on it.

Skylar walked into the pack home and avoided everyone at all cost, knowing that she didn’t want anyone asking questions and all.

Skylar made it to his room and shut the door behind him. He stood there for a moment with Cheyenne in his arms and really felt her.

The warmth radiating off of her, the way she clung to him, the way their bodies just fit together.

But for sure he couldn’t miss how she trembled against him.

“Let’s get you a shower, okay?”

Cheyenne tightened her grip on Skylar, not wanting him to put her down.

“Cheyenne, you’re covered in blood.”

She said nothing as he made his way to the bathroom with her still in his arms.

“Okay, I’ll start a bath and I will step out so you can wash yourself, okay?”

It was still silent, guessing she was still in a state of shock, Skylar just started the bath.

He sat on the toilet and held Cheyenne in his lap while he tested the water for temperature.

“Hot.” Cheyenne’s voice came, almost inaudible.

“You don’t want to burn yourself.”

Cheyenne said nothing and just kept her face hidden from any view.

Cheyenne was too deep in thought. She was trying to think how she’d flee this time and where. How’d she get the money to leave again.

She would have to start over but she didn’t want to. She thought about leaving and felt empty without Skylar. She needed him. She couldn’t just pack up and leave. But if she didn’t, she’d become nothing but a broken victim again.

She wanted Skylar. She wanted to let him in. She wanted all that he could give. She wanted to give to him. She wanted him.

“Alright, that’s as warm as I’m willing to make it. Can you manage a bath on your own?”

Cheyenne knew she needed a bath but she didn’t want Skylar to leave.

“I’m going to let you go now, okay? I’ll be right outside the door.”

Cheyenne felt him moving away from her but she gripped him tighter, body trembling.

If he left, she’d panic all over again. She didn’t want him to go.

She shook her head.

“Princess...” Skylar’s voice was soft.

“Don’t leave...” She quivered.

Skylar was a bit taken aback, he knew that she was a bit damaged and for damn sure she didn’t want him to see her unclothed.

“Okay, okay. I’ll be right over there, in the corner, facing the wall, yes?”

Cheyenne was quiet for a second before agreeing.

“Okay, I’m going to let you go now.”

Cheyenne nodded and let him go, getting off him.

Skylar stood, slightly startling Cheyenne and moved to the corner in the bathroom.

He heard the rustling of her dropping her scrubs to the floor and the slip dip sound of water as she got in the bathtub.

The sound of dripping and sloshing rang through the bathroom as the silence grew.

The sound of sloshing water and drops on the tile let him know that she was out of the bath.

Grabbing the towel, he stayed facing the wall and handed it to Cheyenne who gently took it with a quiet thanks.

“Am I good to turn around, yet?”

He felt Cheyenne under him as she turned him around, wrapping her arms around him and laying her head against his chest.

Skylar held her wet, towel wrapped body against his as if protecting her from the very air that surrounded them.

“I won’t ask anymore questions tonight, Princess. But it’s my job to protect you. I need to know what I’m protecting you from.”

Cheyenne nodded.

“Tomorrow.”

“Okay. Let’s get you to bed.”

Picking her up gently, Skylar carried her to his bed, covering her up and kissed her forehead.

“Sweet dreams.”

After thinking a lot about it, she was tired of running from Oliver. She was sick of having to cower away from him, a man. He’s only a man.

A man who had nothing against a werewolf.
