CHAPTER 2
TAYLOR'S POV Although I said yes, my heart was plagued with second-guesses all day long. And even when I had finally made it there, I still thought of turning around but Delaney’s perfect timing saved the day. “For a second, I actually thought you wouldn't make it.” She said, enveloping me into a warm hug. “I had to or you would have killed me.” She patted my back gently. “You better not forget that.” I chuckled, finding it funny although there was something about her tone that made me feel like it wasn't supposed to be a joke. Delaney led me to a nice spot beside the big fire made of tons of giant logs. We sat alone. I glanced around. There was no one close to us. Everyone was standing in one corner or the other chewing at their partner's lips. She was right about the privacy and the icky romance too. “Here.” Delaney held a cup of beer to me, smiling childishly. “No. I pass.” She frowned. “Do you think I didn't notice? You walk with a limp. Zephyr bullied you again, didn't he?” I avoided her upset gaze. “Taylor. You are in pain. You need relief. The drugs won't help. They are bad for you. But this will.” She came closer. Holding my gaze. There was care in her eyes. Genuine worry about me. “Trust me.” I looked down at the cup. Delaney is never wrong. I took it from her and gulped down everything. I felt my throat burn. My injuries twitched. I gasped in pain. She kept smiling the entire time. Not saying a word. I tried to hand the cup back to her but my hands felt really weak all of a sudden. I looked down. Everything split into two. The ground beneath us blurred in my eyes and my mind felt so hazy. Suddenly I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. ‘What's going on?’ It was as though the world started spinning. I lifted my gaze to meet Delaney’s face. She grinned. ‘Wait… no. It can't be. Delaney… what did you do?’ ********* “Here is fine. Leave her here.” “Come on, hurry with those sticks.” The whispers continued. My eyes flickered, I tried to keep it open but I was so woozy and so weak. I couldn't even lift an eyelid. My body felt like it weighed a ton and the pain in my legs was throbbing again. “Should I tie her down before she wakes up?” Someone asked, their voice was so familiar. I tried again to look. This time it worked. My gaze fell on him. A puny wolf boy with pale skin and roughed up clothes. ‘Jeffery. What the hell is he doing?’ He was shuddering, his face as white as a ghost. He hugged onto a big stick. Terrified was an understatement of how he felt. He began to scare me too. I rolled my eyes around, There were others with him holding sticks too. But unlike him, they all wore nasty grins on their faces. They seemed to be enjoying this. Whatever it is. “Who is gonna swing first?” One of them questioned. He was fiddling with his stick, eager to be the one. “No way. Delaney goes first.” I turned sharply. My neck snapped because of it. But I didn't notice. I was shocked. Delaney was standing a little away from me, swinging a batton. ‘No… no. This isn't… possible.’ Our eyes met and she held up her head, a devious look on her face. “Yeah you are right. It's about time. I was really getting tired of this bitch parading herself like she has it all. This ought to teach her that filthy omegas keep their ugly heads down” “Delaney-” tears pooled in my eyes. It all began to make sense to me. What this was and what she did. There was this sick tradition to beat up a student every bonfire night. The school bullies made it up and they took turns picking a weak wolf who would be their dummy. I can't believe Delaney brought me here so I could be the dummy. “What are you guys waiting for, let's do this already.” Someone yelled from their midst. Delaney’s hands gripped her batton and began to come towards me. I felt my gut sink and every bit of my body began to shiver. I dug through the dirt with my claws, trying to crawl away. I could feel fear weigh down on me and my limbs refused to crawl with me. Tears blurred my vision. I felt shivers crawl up my spin. This was real. They were really planning to hit me with that. I whimpered in pain as my old wounds ripped open and my elbows scabbed by the pebbles on the sand. Delaney swung the bat. It hit me right in the head. The world went dark instantly, it felt like my head burst open. Screeching sounds filled my ears, everything else was quiet except for that. Another stick hit me on the side. Other blows followed. I covered my head and curled up like a ball. Their loud cheers filled the air. Beating me was like comic relief to them. It got their adrenaline pumping and it made them more eager to do new damage. Consciousness began to leave me. My mind went hazy and my body felt numb. My eyes wouldn't open anymore even though the power of the full moon made me heal fast. My clenched fits unclenched. The tension in me seemed to slip away. I wasn't holding on anymore. I was tired of trying to survive. The second before my eyes closed. I heard a mighty howl. I think It shook the entire place. The wolves froze on the spot. They all must have looked towards the sound. I couldn't. I was phasing out. The last thing I could remember was the thudding of footsteps scampering off and firm big hairy hands lifting me into their arms. In the fading silence, I heard someone call out. “Mate.”TAYLOR’S POV“We had a deal that you would rest and go out with me after the signing. That guy over there, the one you're going out with, he does not look like me. Just thought I would remind you because I want to believe that you are confusing him for me and you actually want to go out with me like you promised, you don't want to go anywhere else.”I turned, ,my lips parting to say something. She raised her hand, shunning me. “Nope; absolutely not. I don't want to hear it. I know you have the perfect excuse for everything but it won't cut it this time not with me. You are staying right here, getting a really good rest and then you are going to see the doctor.”She spelled them out for me while she stood akimbo at the hallway. I knew for a fact that I was stronger than her and I could ask my guards to hold her for me but I also knew how she could be. She would never let me leave until she allowed it.“Daisy it's important. My peace of mind is at stake.”“Yes of course a piece of
CH286TAYLOR’S POV The council hall was full again like the day we called many kingdoms together to prepare for the witch but this time around we were planning peace. Zephyr was still not waking up so I was going to have to handle this on my own. Well at least that’s what I thought. I placed the last piece of jewelry I had picked for the occasion, on the center of my forehead, it was a red jade. I turned to leave but before I could open the door it was thrown ajar by the only person I knew would there to come to my room without locking, Daisy.“Daisy.”I screamed. Forget poise and Grace I ran to her and we hugged each other giggling like a couple of high school girls “Oh my dear friend I thought I would never see you again, that you would say abroad forever. I was so lonely.”“I would never leave you silly. Best friends stay together that's like real number one of every friendship.” She said squeezing me tightly. We stayed like that for a moment before we finally pulled awa
TAYLOR’S POVA WEEK LATERI lay my head next to him, my eyes were closed and my lips were sealed. My mind had drifted into a reverie and stayed there. I thought about how it felt these few days Zephyr had been in a coma. How cold I was because he wasn’t lying next to me. I was immediately reminded of the many times I had gone out on my own to do things without telling him. I remembered his when he told me how it hurt him I remembered his warnings. I really thought I had understood the way he used to feel back then until now, now I realized that I only had a glimpse of it. It was in this moment that I had the full picture I really put him through all this hell with all those other things did; those times I went off on my own, when I almost made love to Oscala in my mind. Looking at him now I stopped to think imagine if he had gone to do the same with another woman, how would I have felt?. We weren't officially married so he could do that. Now that I think about, Zephyr may have bul
TAYLOR’S POVPandora took her full form. All her giant claws and razor sharp fangs; she brought them all out. The witch shifted immediately, as of she could actually put up a fight. Pandora jumped her, burying her claws into Belly. I wasn’t a deep wound but she was bleeding immediately. She staggered back, swinging her own claws to hit me but Pandora was faster. Pandora swung hers fast enough, cutting her face, and breaking her nose. The witch wailed, stumbling back and falling. Pandora jumped on her and ripping through her face, and her whole body. The witch jerked in pain but only managed to throw Pandora off. She sprung back to her feet and couldn’t stay on it. She fell back down immediately. She turned back to her human form.I stopped Pandora immediately. She refused at first, fighting me. She wanted to end the witch with her own claws. “You will Pandora. Let me take over from here. This fight should be fair. I will not stop to her level and play dirty. You understand. Now sto
TAYLOR’S POV “We keep going North. I sensed him there. They must have picked a different route to ‘no man’s land’. I’m site they have a good reason so let’s keep our heads up so we won’t fall victim of whatever it or they were avoiding that made them take that route.” Oscala said to us as he rose fast towards Zephyr. I was right behind him and the ghosts stayed on my tail. We just left the original road Zephyr had mapped out to use. Now more than anything I wished I could just shift or fly over there or something. But w has to preserve our strength. We had to make sure that we were in full form for whatever it is we were about to face. Sometimes things had to be this way, even though it sucked so much. Oscala made a sharp turn, guiding him horse into a narrow path and racing down. K joined him, everyone too. Oscala increased his speed. He must have picked something up. I couldn’t sense like him but I knew something was odd. My heart beat kept thumping faster by the minute. My che
ZEPHYR’S POV“Affleck come here.” I beckoned on the boy. He rushed over immediately. I pulled him away from everyone for a moment. “Listen boy. That witch, she is down to one last man, Zulu. Once she sees him she will not care about any of his men. She hated him dearly, she will definitely kill him before she moves forward. I need you to make her come to us. But most Importantly, save Zulu. He is tip top priority.” He bowed and rushed off, taking a horse. The boy was really good. He rode his hire better then many men I know. He moved so fast. Before I knew it, he had vanished. I signaled the others with me.“The witch is coming our way. She is coming in hot and anger. Braces yourselves for her. If you have any trump cards I suggest you pull them all out now because you will need everything you got to survive.”They chorused ‘yes’, rushing tents to get through weapons. I took her chance to get to high ground. I looked towards Zulu’s group with the telescope. I flinched immediately
