CHAPTER 2
TAYLOR'S POV Although I said yes, my heart was plagued with second-guesses all day long. And even when I had finally made it there, I still thought of turning around but Delaney’s perfect timing saved the day. “For a second, I actually thought you wouldn't make it.” She said, enveloping me into a warm hug. “I had to or you would have killed me.” She patted my back gently. “You better not forget that.” I chuckled, finding it funny although there was something about her tone that made me feel like it wasn't supposed to be a joke. Delaney led me to a nice spot beside the big fire made of tons of giant logs. We sat alone. I glanced around. There was no one close to us. Everyone was standing in one corner or the other chewing at their partner's lips. She was right about the privacy and the icky romance too. “Here.” Delaney held a cup of beer to me, smiling childishly. “No. I pass.” She frowned. “Do you think I didn't notice? You walk with a limp. Zephyr bullied you again, didn't he?” I avoided her upset gaze. “Taylor. You are in pain. You need relief. The drugs won't help. They are bad for you. But this will.” She came closer. Holding my gaze. There was care in her eyes. Genuine worry about me. “Trust me.” I looked down at the cup. Delaney is never wrong. I took it from her and gulped down everything. I felt my throat burn. My injuries twitched. I gasped in pain. She kept smiling the entire time. Not saying a word. I tried to hand the cup back to her but my hands felt really weak all of a sudden. I looked down. Everything split into two. The ground beneath us blurred in my eyes and my mind felt so hazy. Suddenly I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. ‘What's going on?’ It was as though the world started spinning. I lifted my gaze to meet Delaney’s face. She grinned. ‘Wait… no. It can't be. Delaney… what did you do?’ ********* “Here is fine. Leave her here.” “Come on, hurry with those sticks.” The whispers continued. My eyes flickered, I tried to keep it open but I was so woozy and so weak. I couldn't even lift an eyelid. My body felt like it weighed a ton and the pain in my legs was throbbing again. “Should I tie her down before she wakes up?” Someone asked, their voice was so familiar. I tried again to look. This time it worked. My gaze fell on him. A puny wolf boy with pale skin and roughed up clothes. ‘Jeffery. What the hell is he doing?’ He was shuddering, his face as white as a ghost. He hugged onto a big stick. Terrified was an understatement of how he felt. He began to scare me too. I rolled my eyes around, There were others with him holding sticks too. But unlike him, they all wore nasty grins on their faces. They seemed to be enjoying this. Whatever it is. “Who is gonna swing first?” One of them questioned. He was fiddling with his stick, eager to be the one. “No way. Delaney goes first.” I turned sharply. My neck snapped because of it. But I didn't notice. I was shocked. Delaney was standing a little away from me, swinging a batton. ‘No… no. This isn't… possible.’ Our eyes met and she held up her head, a devious look on her face. “Yeah you are right. It's about time. I was really getting tired of this bitch parading herself like she has it all. This ought to teach her that filthy omegas keep their ugly heads down” “Delaney-” tears pooled in my eyes. It all began to make sense to me. What this was and what she did. There was this sick tradition to beat up a student every bonfire night. The school bullies made it up and they took turns picking a weak wolf who would be their dummy. I can't believe Delaney brought me here so I could be the dummy. “What are you guys waiting for, let's do this already.” Someone yelled from their midst. Delaney’s hands gripped her batton and began to come towards me. I felt my gut sink and every bit of my body began to shiver. I dug through the dirt with my claws, trying to crawl away. I could feel fear weigh down on me and my limbs refused to crawl with me. Tears blurred my vision. I felt shivers crawl up my spin. This was real. They were really planning to hit me with that. I whimpered in pain as my old wounds ripped open and my elbows scabbed by the pebbles on the sand. Delaney swung the bat. It hit me right in the head. The world went dark instantly, it felt like my head burst open. Screeching sounds filled my ears, everything else was quiet except for that. Another stick hit me on the side. Other blows followed. I covered my head and curled up like a ball. Their loud cheers filled the air. Beating me was like comic relief to them. It got their adrenaline pumping and it made them more eager to do new damage. Consciousness began to leave me. My mind went hazy and my body felt numb. My eyes wouldn't open anymore even though the power of the full moon made me heal fast. My clenched fits unclenched. The tension in me seemed to slip away. I wasn't holding on anymore. I was tired of trying to survive. The second before my eyes closed. I heard a mighty howl. I think It shook the entire place. The wolves froze on the spot. They all must have looked towards the sound. I couldn't. I was phasing out. The last thing I could remember was the thudding of footsteps scampering off and firm big hairy hands lifting me into their arms. In the fading silence, I heard someone call out. “Mate.”TAYLOR’S POVOscala scanned the place, quietly and then he looked at us. “That’s sound isn’t real. This place isn’t real. Like I told this id a mirage. A very a good one. They really want to keep people out. We need to keep moving. No matter what you see and hear and feel, ignore it. It’s not real. “AHH!!!” The scream came again, my heart skipping thousands of beat. I gripped my chest. Oh my poor heart. I looked at Oscala. “Its going to be hard to pretend I can’t hear that.” “That’s the goal of the Mirage, to make sure you don’t feel like it’s unreal in anyway. Stay close Taylor, since you can’t handle it.” Zephyr said, making macho for me. I eyed him. I prefer being where I am. If there is one thing I know it’s that situations like this, it’s that the tough ones get captured first. I moved away from Oscala too. Bette safe then sorry. Now I was in the middle, far from that both of them and rocking on my stupid horse as I walked forward. We went past a big tree full of vines. Som
TAYLOR’S POV Zephyr took another look at the map and then glanced at the distance before us. We were on that right track a few hours ago now e had no idea where we are.“Is the map still not making sense to you?” I asked, trying to control my horse that had been trying to walk in circles for reasons I couldn’t possible comprehend.“Yes. I am a hundred percent sure this is the way. The valley and the small green pass we just crossed are identical to that one on the moa but everything from here isn’t . It’s like they attached one different landscape into another different landscape.” He yelled back at me, he was moving away, trying to get a broader Ariel view of the road ahead from the highest part of that hill. I huffed, wiping the sweat of my brow. The sun was blazing hot and frying us here. I really did not like that idea of being roasted wolf so I wondered when we would go under those big trees ahead and find shade.“I think we are in a mirage.” Someone spoke behind me. Th
ZEPHYR’S POV“She won’t be throne to search through her memories, the spirit guide will be. He or she will find the memory that is being sought for and then make Taylor see them, like a movie, in her eyes. She won’t be her out of look for the memories which means she won’t her stuck in her head.”He paused, watching me. I wore a blank expression, making sure he didn’t she past it. “Well I know the priestesses in SHILA’s temple might be of help. I don’t to how they are being trained now but I know that when I was still here, they were trained to enter memories.”I stood up, meeting his gaze. For one whole minute, we just stared at each other, uttering all the unspoken words we dared not say. Finally we arrived at a decision. “You can guide her but you cannot touch anything other than her head and if I see your eyes looking anywhere else. You will not like what I will do.”“Understood.” I asked him to follow me. We went to my chambers. Taylor was already prepared for bed. I locked O
ZEPHYR’S POV I turned around, to look at her, standing by the door and wearing that innocent look on her face. Like she couldn’t have done anything wrong. On a different circumstance, that would have amused me. Riled me up even but not now. “You know how I feel about that Oscala and you know why.” “I do.” She said, leaving the door and coming close to me. She placed her hand on my chest and made little ticklish circles, like a little girl. “I also know that he was there when my mother woke that witch. He and my mother lived in same village. If anyone will know more about how the witch came to be, it’s him. I once met my mother in my memories. She told me that her memories were repressed in my mind. If I know what I’m looking for, I might just be able to find that the particular moment when mother saves the witch and figure out the particular thing she did.”“Taylor, you can’t get me to allow you based off of that. You should know that better that anyone.”“But Zephyr we need his
TAYLOR’S POV“Well, you see to bring a dead creature to life- wolf or lycan, is not simple. How SHILA did it is very essential in figuring out how to kill the witch. If you can learn how to kill her. She is dead already actually, so it’s to learn to learn not to remove her completely.”“I see.” I folded my hands. I knew there wasn’t any of reaching mother but at least knowing what I was looking for, I could be able to figure it out without her.. I have her repressed memories after all.“I will get you a map so you can mark the area where the place we are looking for is.” Zephyr said getting up and walking to our the closet. He picked up the map from the lower part of it and came back. He sat next to me and I leaned on him. He dropped the map on the table in front of us, putting some plates aside. Resha’s mother went on to look really long at the map. She studied it again and again and still didn’t see what she as looking for. “What’s wrong? This is an updated map. The best in the r
TAYLOR’S POV A week after Zephyr woke up and Zulu took back his kingdom, we knew it was time for us to move on to look for a witch but at this point we needed to know where we had to go next and we haven’t settled on one. Zulu was way too occupied o put us through. He has a kingdom to put together and many of the Lycans to set their affairs. However he did give us Resha’s mother to help. She was well acquainted with the Lycan kingdom’s history and she would understand anything we told her. She went brought her over for dinner at the Lycan palace. She was amazed when she came. She kept looking aoin. Many of what was damaged had been repaired and renovated and they looked twice as good as they were before. Beautiful styles were etched into the news walls and better security we put. She just awed at everything before the finally came to into the chambers that Zephyr and I stayed in, in the palace. There was a dinning room adjacent to our bedroom and it was demarcated by Giant cu
