I barely resisted the urge to barge into my father’s room last night, but all bets were off this morning. I’d let him keep his secrets up until this point, but the threat level had escalated with Asher and Rias’s news about the bears’ movements.

I couldn’t afford to humor Logan’s stalling anymore, and he instantly noticed my subdued mood when I entered his room, the smile dropping from his face with the storm clouds accompanying my arrival.

I’d tried starting with casual conversation the few times I’d mentioned the sore spot in the past, but he’d just turned a deaf ear on my inquiries or diverted the topic altogether when I brought them up, regardless of my approach.

I didn’t push then, wanting to give him time to work through his own hang-ups, but the new intel we’d received yesterday changed everything.
