Chapter 22.2

"SHE'S calling," Hera announced to Marcus as Callie's name appeared on her cell phone screen.

Hera checked out the entire site after their battle with Esteban to ensure they were the only ones there. She discovered an abandoned tiny cottage in the middle of the woods as she strolled around. She brought Marcus there to treat his wounds.

Hera laid the wet cloth she had used to clean Marcus' wounds aside and picked up the cell phone from the floor, hesitating whether to answer Callie's call.

"Talk to her, I'm sure she's worried," Marcus muttered weakly, turning to the open window and looking out at the darkening sky.

Hera sighed and nodded before answering the phone. "Calista?"

Callie did not respond. Hera called her name again, but all she heard was a sigh.

"I'm with Marcus right now. We just went somewhere for a little while."

"Hi, Calista!" Marcus attempted to sound happy even though the large wound in his neck pained as he spoke.

["Are you guys all right?"] Calista finally spoke.
