Amaka's POV:
I continued with the rest of the day working, and felt Simon's gaze on me frequently.
Why was he always looking at me? I pondered, but didn't ask him.
My phone rang, and I unlocked it and saw that Maureen was the one calling me. She obviously would have taken Jason to preschool, but I didn't want to chat with her about Jason here.
Feeling Simon's scrutinizing gaze on me and also, the fact that Joseph was in his office and monitoring me made me uncomfortable.
"Hello, dear, I will call you back later," I told Maureen, and she replied, "Okay."
I looked at Simon, and he frowned and looked away. I didn't understand the reason for his frowning, but then, I heard the buzzer sound.
"It's break time," Simon informed me, and I sighed. "Okay."
I turned off my laptop and stood up from my chair. "I think we will be going to the cafeteria, right?" I asked Simon as he rose from his chair.
"Yes. Or you can request for your meal here," he said, and I smiled back. "Fine. I am still new, so I will go to the cafeteria."
I exited Simon's office, sucking in a deep breath of fresh air as I wasn't under surveillance.
My day has been ruined with meeting my baby's father.
How do I tell him that we have a child? How does Joseph Ericson claim not to know me?
Was four years too long to forget someone?
I tried not to sob as I walked ahead to the elevator to go down to the second floor.
As I arrived at the elevator stand, I entered and looked back, seeing Joseph step out of his office.
My heart skipped a beat, and I looked away from him, wanting to shut the door and leave, but the security man told me to wait.
"Hmm," my eyes narrowed at security man as Joseph came into the elevator and joined me in going down to the second floor. We didn't speak to each other. Luckily, there was a female staff in the elevator with us, and she was also nervous to be in the same elevator as the boss.
Joseph had grown taller than the last time I saw him. As much as I tried to look away from him, my eyes still traveled to linger on him.
But he spared me no glance at all. How ruthless of him?
Joseph walked out of the elevator with perfectly measured strides, maintaining his stance as he entered the second-floor hallway. The security men greeted him as he stopped to speak with the two men, but I marched away, feeling upset that I was being ignored.
My year of being pregnant, going through all that journey alone. The fact that my parents sent me away.
I wanted to confront Joseph about this, and he cannot pretend like he didn't know me.
I moved over to the counter and requested for my meal. They served free lunch, and I requested a plate of jollof rice and fried chicken laps. It was one of my favorites.
As I turned to take a seat in the cafeteria, I saw Joseph looking at me. But he quickly looked away as my eyes met his.
I swear I saw that look of longing in his eyes. He was lost for a moment, like he was admiring me. But he looked away and moved away from the security man he was speaking with and went to take his seat.
I sat two chairs away from Joseph, but his eyes were on me. But each time I looked at him, he gazed away.
A waitress went to meet Joseph to serve him lunch, but I didn't know they had waitresses. Most of the staff didn't wait to be served and went to request for their meals.
As I sat alone, lost in my deep thoughts, I decided to speak to Maureen about this first before I confront Joseph again. He might have moved on, I guess, as he was so obsessed with sex. He wanted to sleep with me until I gave in, but he changed after that night.
"Hi, may I join you for lunch?" Simon asked, snapping me out of my trance. I could feel Joseph's gaze on us, and likewise some other guys in the cafeteria.
Many staff were coming in and going out. The space was vast.
"Sure," I told him, and he sat across from me.
"How do you enjoy the meal?" Simon asked, and I smiled back.
"It's nice," I said, feeling Joseph's gaze on us.
"Okay, I am glad that you like it. So can I get your personal number to call you after closing time?" Simon asked, and I looked at his face.
"Why? I don't need any calls?" I replied, and he grinned.
"It's just a harmless call to check up on my colleague. Nothing else," he smiled, and I smiled back at him.
"Alright. I will think about it. Maybe when we get back to the office, I will give you my phone to put your number," I told him, and he smiled.
"Alright." Simon waved over to the waiter to bring him lunch, and he ordered the same food as mine. We sat there eating, and I finished up my chicken lap and rose to return to my office.
I could still feel Joseph's gaze on me, and I tried not to look at him.
I exited the cafeteria and went back to Simon's office to sit in my chair. My mind filled with numerous thoughts.
I resumed back with my office work, helping the company to advertise their new products online. I finished up with all the new products available and signed out. I picked up my phone and signed into my son's account.
I looked at his photos and videos and recalled Joseph denying me that he doesn't know me.
I didn't apply too much makeup on my face, so why couldn't he remember?
Simon came into the office, and I quickly signed out of my son's profile. I kept my phone and waited until 5 pm when the company closes.
It wasn't a new company after all. I had thought they were just starting, but it was a branch of their main head office on the island.
I thought about Maureen putting my son in a school and her going back to her husband's house.
They hadn't gotten married, but he has paid her dowry, remaining to do a church wedding.
Maureen wasn't so obsessed about the wedding, so she wanted to go living with her fiancé since he invited her over.
She would be packing her bags tomorrow, and I don't know if I should tell her about my trouble or not.
It's closing hour, Simon rose from his desk and came over to meet me.
"I haven't forgotten to ask for your number," he said, and I agreed and collected his phone.
I gave him my number, and he told me he would call tonight. I shook my head, picking up my black handbag and fled the office.
As I got out, thankfully Joseph wasn't in sight, so I made my way into the elevator and left the building.
I looked around the parking, and seeing only three cars there. I sighed, looking forward and exited the premises. I got a cab and went back home.
**AMAKA'S POV**I watched as my parents welcomed Joseph, and he spoke to my father that he wanted to marry me and he didn't want the marriage to be delayed before I would change my mind.I laughed and agreed to marry him, and my father said that he would let my uncles know and the rest of our kinsmen.Afterwards, we presented the gifts that Joseph had bought for my parents, as he bought many provisions and bags of rice on our way to my village. My parents prayed for him and blessed him. We were given a room to stay in, which was my old village room, but Joseph opted to lodge in a hotel, which I declined and told him that he had to respect my parents' offer. So Joseph and I stayed in the room together with my son, as my mother paid some young village women to clean up the room.We ate village food with my family and passed the night there.Joseph and I set to leave for the city, and my father said that he would send the marriage rites list to Joseph to get prepared. After our return to
**Joseph's POV**I hadn't thought that Amaka would accept my engagement proposal, as I was scared that she would reject me. But she happily accepted my ring.I felt so delighted, and words cannot explain how thrilled I am to become her fiancé. Even when I verbally proposed to Nina and she accepted, it wasn't from my heart, and I wasn't comfortable with Nina. I felt like she was not the woman for me, but Amaka makes me feel complete, and my happiness knew no bounds. As I arrived at my house with her, I parked my car, and I could see her radiant face. I cannot wait to officially marry her and kiss her and seal our marriage with wonderful sex. I had it all planned out to take her for a vacation to spend our honeymoon, and I decided that my son would spend time with my parents for his Christmas holidays. As we got out of the car, I told her, "Let me help you carry the bag."My finger brushed past Amaka's hand as I stopped her from carrying her bag out of my car's open boot, just as I unlo
**Amaka's POV**As I got to my house, where I live in a rented apartment, thoughts of my closeness with Joseph came flashing into my mind, and I thought it wasn't a bad idea to give him a second chance. However, as I got into the gate, Janet Moore was standing at the front of her apartment, and she welcomed me."Welcome, Amaka.""Good evening, Janet," I greeted her, and she asked me, "Where is Jason?""Oh, he is with his father," I replied and saw her frown."So it's true that you went to your son's father's house. My brother called me and complained that you kept him waiting at the restaurant instead of telling him that you were not interested," Janet said, sounding hurt, and I apologized to her."I am sorry. I never wanted to befriend your brother. I only wanted to explain to him that I do not want any romantic relationship," I said, and Janet nodded."It's fine. I warned him initially that you don't like men, but he refused to believe me. It's okay. Welcome home," Janet said, and I
**Joseph's POV**I was so happy after Amaka accepted my proposal. I was still overjoyed, as I hadn't thought that she would finally forgive me. I wanted to make it up to her, since I had already made that promise to her in the past that I would marry her. I owe Amaka a lovely marriage, and I planned on making the arrangements.I didn't want to inform my family about it yet. As I got into my room, my younger sister phoned me; the sound of my phone ringing caught my attention."Hello, Danna," I answered her call before she would wake my son."Joseph, good evening. I heard from Clara that Amaka was in your house today with Jason. Why are you still welcoming Amaka when you know that she doesn't love you or want to forgive you?" Danna asked, and I sighed."Danna, I have told you not to meddle in my affairs, and what gave your best friend the right to come to my house? Couldn't you send the invitation to me or send a dispatch rider to deliver it? I do not want to see your friend anywhere cl
AMAKA'S POV."Don't worry. Time will tell," Joseph said with a proud grin on his face and I rolled my eyes.I followed him downstairs and he insisted that I must eat before I leave his house."Fine, go and bring the food," I told Joseph as I accompanied him into the kitchen.I watched him serve the food from the pot and he tested it and showed me that it wasn't poisoned.I rolled my eyes as Joseph used my spoon and he put the spoon back in my plate."Why will I make use of the spoon that you have already used?" I asked him and he grinned."We have kissed before in the past. You sucked my dick and I licked yours. And you have my child, so what's the difference of using the same spoon," Joseph teased me, and my cheeks flushed."You are a pervert! And keep your distance from me!" I warned him and instead of backing away, he came close to me with the tray of food in his hands."I only wish for you to give me a second chance. I am still in love with you and I mean it," Joseph muttered and
Amaka's POV.As I rose from the couch, I moved over to the door to find out and I was surprised to see Clara Martin. My son's school teacher. She wore a red seductive dress that had her boobs exposed."Hi, Amaka," she grinned, waving at me at the door and I scowled instead of replying to her greeting or ushering her inside."Why are you here?" I asked her coldly as I stood by the door."Excuse me, isn't this Joseph's house?" Clara asked, her expression shifting to something cold and unfriendly. I didn't like that she was my son's school teacher. But she was Danna's best friend."So what if this is Joseph's house. It's my son's house too and you have no right to be here," I told her and she smirked."You are not married to Joseph and he is single. So why can't I be here?" She asked, her expression firm. And I smirked."Leave. You are not welcome and Joseph isn't around," I told her coldly, not inviting her inside."You cannot send me away." Clara tried to speak, but I shut the door on
