Not long after Xena left, an anxious female voice sounded outside the door. “Excuse me, is Miss Spencer here?”

Miranda turned her head toward the doorway. A young woman stood there holding a large bouquet of roses.

Sensing the tension in the room, the woman quickly gave a polite smile. “Sorry to disturb you.” With that, she hugged the roses and left.

Miranda didn’t need to guess who had sent them.

Felix showed no sign of guilt. His voice was calm. “My mom will be watching Mia tonight. You don’t need to worry.”

“Tell your sister to bring Mia backstage. I’m taking her home,” Miranda said firmly, fixing her gaze on him.

“Let Mia stay and watch the performance before leaving,” Felix insisted.

“If you won’t call, I’ll find her myself.” Miranda had no intention of relying on him.

She knew Felix would love nothing more than for their daughter to witness Xena’s dazzling performance on stage, to admire and adore her—laying the groundwork for the day Xena became her stepmother.
