Amelia was forced to replace her stepsister, who disappeared a day before her wedding day, and get married to the rumored cold billionaire Edward. After being betrayed by her boyfriend, who she thought would rescue her, Amelia had no other choice but to get married to Edward. However, she wasn't prepared for such a life, so she fled from the country the same day they wed. Five years later, she comes back to the country, but not as the timid young lady who was always told what to do but as a famous model, and with her was a child who was a result of the night she had with Edward before their wedding day. What happens when she crosses paths again with Edward, who has vowed to make her pay for disappearing on their wedding day? What happens when she discovers the main reason why her stepsister disappeared the day before her wedding day with Edward?
View More"No, Dad, I'm not going to do it. I’m not going to marry Mira’s fiancé," Amelia yelled angrily, her voice breaking with a mixture of frustration and helplessness.
"Lia, can you for once stop being selfish?" Richard’s voice was cold, indifferent. "You know how much this marriage means to us. Your sister is nowhere to be found, and we can't afford to offend the Williams family. The only solution now is for you to take her place and marry him. Do you want the company to go bankrupt?" His eyes never wavered from his phone, as if he were discussing something trivial.
Amelia’s hands trembled at her sides. "But why me, Dad? Why do I always have to be the one to suffer because of Mira’s mistakes?" Tears blurred her vision as the weight of the situation pressed down on her.
Claudia, her stepmother, crossed her arms, her tone harsh. "Well, that’s because you’re the older sister. Sometimes, you have to cover up for her, and that’s exactly what we need you to do now."
Amelia’s heart hammered in her chest. The words stung more than they should. "Is that really the reason? Or is it because I’m not your daughter? Would you have asked Mira to take my place if I had disappeared on the day before mywedding?" The words spilled out before she could stop them, the anger boiling over.
Claudia scoffed, a dismissive laugh escaping her lips. "Enough, Amelia. Even if you aren’t my biological daughter, I’ve treated you as one. The future of this family and the company depend on this marriage. Do you think I’d ask you if I didn’t have to? If you don’t marry Mr. Edward, everything we’ve worked for will crumble." She glanced at Richard, then back at Amelia with an icy stare. "And you know that."
Amelia swallowed, her voice barely a whisper. "But I don’t love him, Mom. I’m already in love with someone else. You know that."
Richard's eyes narrowed, a mockery evident in his voice. "You mean Andrew?" He let out a short laugh, disbelief in his tone. "You think he really loves you? Let me make this clear, Amelia: he’s with you because of your family’s money, not because of you."
Amelia’s chest tightened. She was about to retort when the sharp sting of her father’s words hit her. *Did he really believe that?*
"That’s not true!" she shouted, her anger a flare that she couldn’t control. "Andrew is with me because he loves me! You’re just saying that to make me marry Mr. Edward."
Richard’s lips twisted into a smile. "Really? Since you’re so sure that Andrew loves you, why don’t we make a bet?" His voice was laced with a cruel edge. "I’ll test him. If he proves he truly loves you, I’ll let you marry him. But if he doesn’t, then you’ll marry Mr. Edward."
Amelia’s heart raced. She nodded quickly, too desperate to think. "I agree."
Richard’s wicked grin deepened. "Perfect, call him. Tell him I want to see him."
Without hesitation, Amelia grabbed her phone. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she dialed Andrew’s number. A moment later, he picked up.
"Hey, babe," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "Could you come over? My dad wants to see you."
Andrew’s voice, soft and reassuring, answered through the line. "Of course, I’ll be there in a minute."
When he arrived, the tension in the room thickened. Amelia’s eyes lit up at the sight of him, the warmth of his smile immediately calming her nerves. She knew he would rescue her, that Andrew would never betray her.
"Hi, babe," he greeted, his smile genuine, and for a moment, Amelia thought everything would be okay.
As he walked in, Richard didn’t bother with pleasantries, his eyes sharp. "Andrew," he said, motioning for him to sit beside Amelia. "You’re in love with her, right?"
"Yes, sir," Andrew said, his voice steady as he took Amelia’s hand, squeezing it gently. "I love Amelia with all my heart."
A flutter of hope rose in Amelia’s chest. She believed him. She knew him.
Richard’s tone shifted, pressing further. "So how much do you love her?"
Andrew’s grip tightened, and his eyes softened as he turned to Amelia. "Mr. Richard, no words can truly express how much I love her. I was planning to ask for her hand in marriage soon. You have my word."
Richard smirked, unfazed. He grabbed a check from the table and scrawled something on it, then slid it toward Andrew, his smile turning sinister.
"You claim to love Amelia," Richard began, his voice chilling, "but we both know it’s not about love. It’s about money, and you know it."
Andrew furrowed his brows in confusion, glancing at Amelia, but Richard continued, his words cutting through the air like a blade. "Here’s ten million dollars. Take it and leave Amelia. It’ll be easier for both of us. You don’t have to waste any more time pretending."
Amelia’s stomach dropped. The blood drained from her face as she stared at Andrew, waiting for him to reject the offer. There was no way he would take the money. No way.
But then—Andrew’s hand, the one she was holding so tightly—slowly pulled away from hers. Her heart skipped a beat. Her breath caught in her throat.
"I'm sorry, Amelia," Andrew said softly, his voice barely a whisper. "Your father is right. I was only with you because of your family’s wealth. I never really loved you."
Amelia froze, the world around her spinning. *No… no, this isn’t happening.*
"Andrew, please," she pleaded, her voice shaking with disbelief, "this isn’t you. You’re only saying this because of the money."
But Andrew didn’t meet her gaze. He pulled away from her completely, walking toward Richard with a resigned look in his eyes. He took the check from Richard’s outstretched hand.
"Thank you, Mr. Richard. From now on, I’ll stay away from Amelia."
Each word was like a dagger to Amelia’s chest. The tears she had been holding back finally spilled over, but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything more. Andrew didn’t look back.
Richard stood up, his expression smug. "Well, Amelia, a deal is a deal. Get yourself ready and also pack your necessary belongings. Mr. Edward will be here in an hour, he will be taking you to the bureau of civil affairs to finalize the papers for the marriage. You will also be following him back to his mansion after the finalization of the papers.
With that, he turned, motioning for Claudia to follow him. They left the room, leaving Amelia alone—her heart shattered, her future sealed.
To be continued…
A car could be seen pulling over just some distance away from the place where the competition was taking place. Once the car pulled over, Amelia, who was sitting in the passenger seat, quickly checked the time on her phone only to see that there were five minutes remaining before the competition begins.Heaving a sigh of relief, she turned her gaze towards Edward, who was on the passenger side."Mr Williams, thank you so much for helping me once again. I really don't know how to thank you enough. I know that I still owe you a meal, and believe me, I'm going to find one way or another to pay you back for helping me this morning also," Amelia said to Edward."Well, I don't think that is necessary; after all, aside from buying me a meal, there are many other ways you can pay me back. For example, you can give me a goodbye kiss; I won't reject it, and mind you that we didn't even get the chance to kiss on the way we got married," Edward said to Amelia, who immediately furrowed her brows a
"Hey, what the hell!!" Amelia screamed at the car that was already driving away, and with that, she looked at the time on her phone only to see that she had only thirty minutes remaining, and from the way the road looked empty, she didn't need a fortune teller before knowing that it would take her more than thirty minutes to find another taxi that would take her to the place the competition was going to take place. _________________________Once the car drove away, Amelia took her phone and began dialling the phone number of the only one person that came to her mind, which was Sarah. It's true that she wasn't a fast driver, but one thing that Amelia was convinced about was that if she explained her situation to her, she was going to do everything possible to come and meet her as soon as possible, and concerning another taxi, she didn't know how long it would take another taxi to come where she was even if she ordered one right away, and the worst part of the whole story was that she
"Ooh my goodness, Mr Williams, why of all the places you could have gone to after getting drunk, you chose here? What if I hadn't decided to move in here today?" Amelia asked Edward as she helped him inside before leading him to the sofa, where he sat down."Well, that's because you are the only one that came to my mind, wifey," Edward said to Amelia with a drunken tone."I mean, wifey, do you know for how long I have been thinking about you? Right from the first day I came to pick you up from your house, I haven't been able to get you off my mind. If I didn't treat you well right from the beginning, it's because I was angry because my mother was forcing me into doing something that I didn't want to do, and that's exactly what she's still trying to do now. I know you are still angry at me for how I treated you back then, but please promise me that you won't leave again no matter what happens," Edward said to Amelia with a drunken tone as he grabbed her hand.Amelia, on the other hand,
It was eight pm in New York City; Amelia could be seen sitting alone in the new apartment she had rented while manipulating her computer.Actually, since she got back earlier from the competition, after getting some rest, she had decided to move into the new apartment she had rented. After all, Sarah's apartment wasn't that big, and for the past few days she stayed with her, she has been sharing Sarah's room with her while Dave stayed alone in the guest room.Meanwhile, Dave had decided to spend more time with Sarah, especially as Amelia would mostly be focused on the competition and won't always be at home to keep him company. Sarah, on the other hand, her job didn't require for her to come to an office; she works remotely from home, so it was only right for Dave to stay with her, and even for the upcoming IT competition, she was still the one who was going to accompany Dave. After helping Amelia to pack the few belongings she had brought from Canada in the new apartment, Sarah and
"How dare you humiliate me before Mr Yates, his daughter and all those maids?" Teresa growled angrily at Edward as she slapped him across the face, and with that Ben gasped in shock, as this was his first time seeing someone raising his or her hand on his boss.__________________________Feeling the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, Edward raised his head and looked at his mother with a wicked smirk hovering over his face as he wondered all the possible means he was going to use to deal with anyone who dared raise his or her hand on him.If not for the fact that Teresa was his mum, then he would have surely made sure that this would be the last time she made use of that hand of hers, talk less of using it to slap him.Teresa, on the other hand, seeing that Edward was still smiling even after she slapped him, raised her hand and made to slap him, but immediately Edward caught her hand and pushed her away."Do you have a death wish, or is it because I allowed you to hit me the first
Driving into the Yates Mansion, Ben immediately got down and opened the car's door so that Edward could come down. Once Edward came down from the car, he was met with a man who he assumed was the butler because of the way he dressed."Good evening, sir, you are welcome; please follow me," the man said to Edward, who nodded in reply before following the man from behind. After walking for some minutes, they finally arrived at the sitting room where Teresa Edward's mum was busy discussing with Mr Yates and Naomi."Edward, you are finally here," Mr Yates said to Edward as he was led into the sitting room."Yes, good evening, and thanks for inviting me over for dinner," Edward said to Mr Yates."Don't mention it, please," Mr Yates said to Edward."Good evening, Mr Williams, I'm happy to see you." Naomi, who was sitting next to Teresa, greeted Edward with a warm smile, and with that, Edward scoffed inwardly."Good evening, Mrs Yates," Edward greeted her in return with a straight face."Goo
