"Lia, can you for once stop being selfish?" Richard’s voice was cold, indifferent. "You know how much this marriage means to us. Your sister is nowhere to be found, and we can't afford to offend the Williams family. The only solution now is for you to take her place and marry him. Do you want the company to go bankrupt?" His eyes never wavered from his phone, as if he were discussing something trivial.
Amelia’s hands trembled at her sides. "But why me, Dad? Why do I always have to be the one to suffer because of Mira’s mistakes?" Tears blurred her vision as the weight of the situation pressed down on her.
Claudia, her stepmother, crossed her arms, her tone harsh. "Well, that’s because you’re the older sister. Sometimes, you have to cover up for her, and that’s exactly what we need you to do now."
Amelia’s heart hammered in her chest. The words stung more than they should. "Is that really the reason? Or is it because I’m not your daughter? Would you have asked Mira to take my place if I had disappeared on the day before mywedding?" The words spilled out before she could stop them, the anger boiling over.
Claudia scoffed, a dismissive laugh escaping her lips. "Enough, Amelia. Even if you aren’t my biological daughter, I’ve treated you as one. The future of this family and the company depend on this marriage. Do you think I’d ask you if I didn’t have to? If you don’t marry Mr. Edward, everything we’ve worked for will crumble." She glanced at Richard, then back at Amelia with an icy stare. "And you know that."
Amelia swallowed, her voice barely a whisper. "But I don’t love him, Mom. I’m already in love with someone else. You know that."
Richard's eyes narrowed, a mockery evident in his voice. "You mean Andrew?" He let out a short laugh, disbelief in his tone. "You think he really loves you? Let me make this clear, Amelia: he’s with you because of your family’s money, not because of you."
Amelia’s chest tightened. She was about to retort when the sharp sting of her father’s words hit her. *Did he really believe that?*
"That’s not true!" she shouted, her anger a flare that she couldn’t control. "Andrew is with me because he loves me! You’re just saying that to make me marry Mr. Edward."
Richard’s lips twisted into a smile. "Really? Since you’re so sure that Andrew loves you, why don’t we make a bet?" His voice was laced with a cruel edge. "I’ll test him. If he proves he truly loves you, I’ll let you marry him. But if he doesn’t, then you’ll marry Mr. Edward."
Amelia’s heart raced. She nodded quickly, too desperate to think. "I agree."
Richard’s wicked grin deepened. "Perfect, call him. Tell him I want to see him."
Without hesitation, Amelia grabbed her phone. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she dialed Andrew’s number. A moment later, he picked up.
"Hey, babe," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "Could you come over? My dad wants to see you."
Andrew’s voice, soft and reassuring, answered through the line. "Of course, I’ll be there in a minute."
When he arrived, the tension in the room thickened. Amelia’s eyes lit up at the sight of him, the warmth of his smile immediately calming her nerves. She knew he would rescue her, that Andrew would never betray her.
"Hi, babe," he greeted, his smile genuine, and for a moment, Amelia thought everything would be okay.
As he walked in, Richard didn’t bother with pleasantries, his eyes sharp. "Andrew," he said, motioning for him to sit beside Amelia. "You’re in love with her, right?"
"Yes, sir," Andrew said, his voice steady as he took Amelia’s hand, squeezing it gently. "I love Amelia with all my heart."
A flutter of hope rose in Amelia’s chest. She believed him. She knew him.
Richard’s tone shifted, pressing further. "So how much do you love her?"
Andrew’s grip tightened, and his eyes softened as he turned to Amelia. "Mr. Richard, no words can truly express how much I love her. I was planning to ask for her hand in marriage soon. You have my word."
Richard smirked, unfazed. He grabbed a check from the table and scrawled something on it, then slid it toward Andrew, his smile turning sinister.
"You claim to love Amelia," Richard began, his voice chilling, "but we both know it’s not about love. It’s about money, and you know it."
Andrew furrowed his brows in confusion, glancing at Amelia, but Richard continued, his words cutting through the air like a blade. "Here’s ten million dollars. Take it and leave Amelia. It’ll be easier for both of us. You don’t have to waste any more time pretending."
Amelia’s stomach dropped. The blood drained from her face as she stared at Andrew, waiting for him to reject the offer. There was no way he would take the money. No way.
But then—Andrew’s hand, the one she was holding so tightly—slowly pulled away from hers. Her heart skipped a beat. Her breath caught in her throat.
"I'm sorry, Amelia," Andrew said softly, his voice barely a whisper. "Your father is right. I was only with you because of your family’s wealth. I never really loved you."
Amelia froze, the world around her spinning. *No… no, this isn’t happening.*
"Andrew, please," she pleaded, her voice shaking with disbelief, "this isn’t you. You’re only saying this because of the money."
But Andrew didn’t meet her gaze. He pulled away from her completely, walking toward Richard with a resigned look in his eyes. He took the check from Richard’s outstretched hand.
"Thank you, Mr. Richard. From now on, I’ll stay away from Amelia."
Each word was like a dagger to Amelia’s chest. The tears she had been holding back finally spilled over, but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything more. Andrew didn’t look back.
Richard stood up, his expression smug. "Well, Amelia, a deal is a deal. Get yourself ready and also pack your necessary belongings. Mr. Edward will be here in an hour, he will be taking you to the bureau of civil affairs to finalize the papers for the marriage. You will also be following him back to his mansion after the finalization of the papers.
With that, he turned, motioning for Claudia to follow him. They left the room, leaving Amelia alone—her heart shattered, her future sealed.
To be continued…
It was eight AM in New York City. Amelia could be seen walking out of Sarah's apartment, and with that, she made her way to the roadside and was about to flag down a taxi that would take her to the place where the competition would be taking place, but suddenly a yellow sports car with tinted windows pulled over in front of her.Seeing the car, Amelia furrowed her brows in surprise as she wondered who the expensive car belonged to and why the person had pulled over in front of her. Thinking that maybe the driver had stopped for another reason, Amelia tried walking away, but immediately the door of the car burst open, and immediately Edward made his way out of the car with a warm smile plastered on his lips. Seeing him, Amelia immediately furrowed her brows in surprise as she wondered why he was looking so hot and handsome this early morning, or had he specially dressed up like that in order to charm her into falling into his trap with his handsomeness the same way a bird catcher cha
Teresa Edward's mum could be seen sitting alone in the dining room having her breakfast when one of the maids rushed into the dining room."Good morning, ma'am," the maid greeted Teresa with her head bowed down in respect."Yes, good morning. How can I help you?" Teresa asked her while munching the food in her mouth."There's a guest waiting for you in the sitting room," the maid said to Teresa."And who is this guest?" Teresa asked the maid."It's Mr. Yates," the maid said to Teresa, who widened her eyes in surprise."Mr. Yates?" Teresa asked the maid in order to be sure that she heard very well what the maid had said."Yes, Mr. Yates," the maid said to Teresa in reply."Did he come alone, or did he come with his daughter?" Teresa asked the maid."He came alone," the maid said to Teresa, who sighed heavily."Okay, offer him something to drink; I will be there in a minute," Teresa said to the maid, who nodded in reply before walking away, and with that, she sighed heavily."Ooh Lord,
"Dave, what is it?" Amelia asked Dave with both of her eyes widened in fright. Fortunately, she had seen Dave coming and had immediately hung up the call; if not, how on earth was she going to keep Dave away from Edward if he already knows that she has a son? Surely he will find one or the other to figure out who the biological father of her son is, and when he figures out that Dave is his son, he will surely use him to tie her down in New York City even after the competition."Mummy, see," Dave said to Amelia as he handed her his computer."What is this?" Amelia asked him while reading what was on the screen of the computer."It's an upcoming competition organised by the biggest IT expert in New York City, and the competition is only for kids between the ages of five and twelve, and the winners will be getting many prizes, like the first computer that the IT expert used, thousands of hacking secrets and codes, and many other things," Dave said to Amelia, who was nodding in reply whi
Amelia was alone in the sitting room, practicing for the competition that was going to take place the following day. The following day being the first day of the competition, the first test was going to be based on the walking style of the models, which was something very essential for every professional model given the fact that most of their activity revolved around walking. As a model, it is very important to have an extraordinary walking style because it is one of the tools a model uses to draw attention to himself, especially during a promotional event in which the model has to promote the product of a brand to thousands of people. So if, as a model, you don't have an extraordinary and authoritative walking style, it would be very difficult to get endorsement deals from top brands and companies who are ready to pay millions to models to promote their products and brand.Amelia, having won many national awards and also having signed many endorsement deals with top brands and compa
"Bro, what the hell is wrong with you? How can you make such a deal with your mother despite knowing how persistent she can be?" Adrian asked Edward after he hung up the call."Well, that's because I'm sure of myself," Edward said to Adrian, who scoffed at him."Sure of what exactly? Amelia is a human being who has a free will; she's not like the software you build that you can easily determine when you will finish. If Amelia doesn't want to get back with you, there's nothing you can do about it even in the next ten years, and even if she wants to get back to you, nothing guarantees that she will do that in less than a month. She might decide to take her time to study you properly before deciding whether to get back to you or not. Or are you going to kidnap her if she decides not to get back with you in less than a month?" Adrian asked Edward with furrowed brows."Well, there will be no need for that, because in less than a month, she will be the one running after me," Edward said to
Edward was in his office coding some new apps that he had just created when his phone suddenly started ringing. Taking the phone and checking the caller ID, he scoffed inwardly before tossing the phone back on his table and continuing what he was doing. After some minutes another call still came in, and knowing that it was the same person that was still calling, Edward didn't touch the phone; instead, he kept on nodding to the ringing tone of the phone until the call hung up by itself.Just some minutes after the call hung up by itself, a message popped into his s phone. Sighing heavily, he took the phone and checked the message, which was from the caller, who was no other person than his mother, and through the message, she was telling Edward that if she calls again and he doesn't pick up, then she's going to come to the company and meet him and also create a scene. Knowing the kind of person his mother was and also what she was capable of doing, Edward didn't wait for her to call b
