Judy's legs were trembling; she dared not even lift her head.
She wished she could find a hole to disappear into.
Did Lewis recognize her?
Judy was extremely nervous, her eyes glued to Lewis's shiny shoes. Whenever he took a step forward, she subconsciously retreated a step back.
The faint smell of mint on her body involuntarily drew Lewis closer and triggered some memories from the previous night.
Suddenly, Lewis's hand reached towards her chest. Startled, Judy looked up sharply, her hands defensively covering her chest, glaring at Lewis with wary eyes: "President, President Lewis..."
Despite Judy's stuttering, she resembled a bristled wild cat showing her sharp claws. Lewis would bet that if he took another step closer, this wild cat would bite.
Lewis's gaze scrutinized Judy from head to toe: fair skin, heavy bangs plus black-frame glasses, making it hard to see her whole face, jeans and shirt, the epitome of shabbiness, and a red hair tie on her wrist.
Judy's first impression on Lewis was simply plain. He hadn't recognized Judy as the woman from last night, and any sense of familiarity vanished completely upon seeing her face.
With an icy expression, Lewis pointed to the badge on Judy's chest: "Judy? Intern? Which school did you graduate from, and how long have you been in the company?"
Judy didn't understand Lewis's intention but instinctively answered, "Graduated from the College of Finance, been in the company for three months."
"College of Finance," Lewis repeated softly, then said to Leo standing aside, "Her, let her report to the secretarial department."
Leo respectfully complied, "Yes, President."
Judy was full of questions: "???"
Before she could ask anything, she saw Lewis stride away with his long legs.
He wasn't here to trouble her?
Judy breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Leo: "Leo, what does the president mean?"
Leo smiled and said, "Congratulations, you've been transferred to the secretarial department; you've been promoted. This is good news; you're the first to be promoted from intern to secretary directly."
"Why me? Leo, give me some insight, tell me the truth. Otherwise, I'm uneasy," Judy wondered, did Lewis recognize her and plan to keep her close to torment her slowly?
After all, it's not very honorable to be spread around that a woman slept with him.
Leo looked Judy over and said, "Probably because you're plain-looking and have a fiancé, safe and worry-free. The president just happens to need a secretary, so he chose you."
After all, hiring a single and pretty secretary could lead to distractions aiming to charm the boss.
Judy: "......"
Judy had delicate features and was considered a stunning beauty in school; she deliberately dressed drably and used heavy bangs and glasses to hide her appearance, which greatly diminished her attractiveness.
As just an intern in this big company, without any connections and many with higher education than her, having high attractiveness wasn't always a good thing; it could bring unnecessary trouble.
Seeing Judy speechless, Leo thought his words had hurt her and apologized: "Judy, no offense, just do your best, and report to the secretary department."
Judy came back to her senses and smiled, "Thanks, Leo, I'll treat you to a meal later."
Being inexplicably promoted and entering the secretary department left Judy feeling uneasy. She was afraid to encounter Lewis, and now she'd have to see him daily?
Did he recognize her as the person from last night?
In just a few minutes, Judy felt as though she had been tortured; what more if they met daily?
Judy managed to survive until the end of the workday. Like an ostrich hiding her head, she stayed in the secretary's office and avoided going to the president's office as much as possible to keep a low profile.
Exiting the company, Judy took a long breath of relief; working today felt like undergoing punishment.
Now that she had received a promotion and a raise, Judy felt as though she was striving for glory at the expense of herself. Not wanting to squeeze into the subway today, Judy indulged in the luxury of a taxi ride home.
On her way, she sent a message to Susan: Susan, I got regularized and got a raise, I'll treat you tonight, let's go out for dinner, I'm almost home, get ready.
Inside the rental flat.
Susan sat anxiously on the living room sofa, and sitting across from her was Lewis.
Receiving Judy's message, her heart sank, she glanced at the phone just once before turning the screen off.
Susan had seen Lewis on TV, he was the kind of person at the pinnacle of the pyramid, someone she could never come into contact with in her lifetime, but now, Lewis himself was sitting in front of her.The man in person was even more handsome than on TV. His well-tailored suit accentuated his lean figure, and he carried an inherent noble and cool charm, handsome, calm, with a strong aura.Susan was so nervous that her palms were sweating, her heart was racing, and her cheeks were blushing.Which woman wouldn't blush and get excited at the sight of such a handsome and rich man?Lewis began to speak, his tone indifferent, "About last night, I promised you I would take responsibility. You can choose to accept this check for five million dollars, or choose to move to the Royal Manor to be my woman."Last night?Susan was confused. The latter sentence 'be my woman' completely shocked Susan. This was more thrilling than winning the lottery. The man sitting in front of her was Lewis, the ma
Susan in front of her suddenly seemed a little strange to Judy. That look and tone, as if she would become the most heinous criminal if she interfered."Have you got a boyfriend? How come you never mentioned him before? What does your boyfriend do, where is he from, and did he ask you to move in? When a man says 'I'll take care of you,' it could just mean meager meals, women need to work to have confidence. If you get deceived, with your gentle nature, these men love to pick on someone like you to bully...""Judy, is that how you see me?" Susan interrupted her.Judy was taken aback and explained, "No, that's not what I meant..."Susan interrupted again, "He won't deceive me, he's a local, his family is rich, he runs a company. Finding a good man is more important than finding a good job. If you find the right man, life won't be as hard.Women are supposed to live comfortably; earning money is a man's job. I don't have your abilities, and I'm not as pretty as you. I just want to find a
Susan couldn't wait for the third day and contacted Lewis's assistant the very next day, expressing her desire to move to the Royal Manor and become Lewis's woman. She made the call after Judy had gone to work.Within an hour, Leo, accompanied by bodyguards, drove to pick up Susan."Miss, please get in the car," Leo said very respectfully. As the only woman currently allowed to live at the Royal Manor, and potentially becoming the lady of Caler Group in the future, he naturally showed great respect.Susan glanced at Leo and the bodyguards behind him, then looked at the luxury car, her vanity greatly satisfied. She had lived in poverty for over twenty years, looked down upon by others, and this was the first time she could ride in a car worth millions and be treated so respectfully.Susan straightened her back and walked towards the luxury vehicle. At that moment, a neighboring aunt called out, "Susan, are you moving? Is that your boyfriend?"Driven by vanity, Susan said arrogantly, "H
Lewis's eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed at her. "What were you just thinking about? I want the truth."Judy couldn't possibly tell the truth; what would happen if Lewis knew she was fantasizing about being with him 'in that way'? Would he silence her for good? She composed herself and replied innocently, "I was thinking about what to have for dinner tonight."A flicker in Lewis's brow hinted at disbelief. Despite Judy's ostensibly honest and simple demeanor, he felt that it was definitely not her true nature. This woman was cunning.Lewis fixed his eyes on her and asked, "Do you know why I transferred you to the secretary department?""I know." Judy replied as if sincerely, "Leo said it was because I look dowdy."Lewis's lips twitched. "...""You certainly are... self-aware." Lewis was at a loss for words, never before having encountered such an 'obedient' female secretary."You won't be having what you'd like for dinner tonight because you're going out with me."If Judy hadn’t kno
The first day Susan moved into the royal manor, she was very excited. She took a bath early and changed into new pajamas, waiting for Lewis to come back. She waited for a very long time and was almost falling asleep when finally, she heard some noise. Just as Susan was about to enter the bedroom, she heard a familiar voice: "Mia (family maid), please take care of the president. We'll be heading off." That was Judy's voice. Susan had lived with Judy for over twenty years and knew her voice well. Why would Judy be in Lewis's room? Susan quickly remembered that Judy was Lewis's secretary, so her presence at the royal manor was perfectly normal. Hearing that Judy was about to leave, Susan quickly hid in the adjacent room and waited until the footsteps descending the stairs faded away before she emerged and headed to Lewis's master bedroom. "Mia, let me take care of Mr. Lewis. You're getting on in years and shouldn't overexert yourself this late at night." Mia was
Lewis shook his head, stood up, and went to take a cold shower in the bathroom to calm his burning desires.Meanwhile, Susan, who had been sent out, felt wronged and uneasy. She didn’t know what had made Lewis unhappy. She cautiously tried to guess what was on Lewis’s mind.In the hallway, Susan ran into Mia and asked earnestly, "Mia, I can't seem to fall asleep. Could you keep me company and chat for a bit?"It was late, and Mia wanted to go to rest, but considering that Susan was now Lewis’s woman, she had to muster her energy and said with a smile, “OK.”"Susan, I have a question for you," Susan began to inquire. “Does Lewis dislike lilies?”Mia nodded, “Yes, Mr. Lewis hates lilies. They are not allowed in the house at all; not even the scent of lilies, nor even mentioning them.”Susan realized she had touched upon a huge taboo for Lewis and asked anxiously, “Why?”“I don’t know,” Mia shrugged. “Anyway, Lewis doesn’t like lilies.”Knowing this about Lewis, Susan hurried back to her
The neighbor lady said, "I didn't get a clear look at the license plate number, but it was a local one, seemed to have three 8s in it, I don't remember exactly.'"Judy felt a bit disappointed, she still wanted to check the license plate number.Susan had been hemming and hawing, unwilling to even say her boyfriend's name, definitely something fishy going on."Ma'am, I'm in a hurry to get to work, can't chat now, might miss the subway," Judy glanced at the time, feeling a bit anxious inside. Her place was quite far from the company, taking forty minutes by subway. At 7:59 AM, Judy arrived at the company. She had run all the way from the subway station and quickly took a sip of water to catch her breath."Judy, you're panting like that, were you chased by a dog?" Secretary-General Linda teased.Judy waved her hand, panting, "One more minute, and there goes my perfect attendance reward."Linda asked, "Where do you live?""Suburbs," Judy replied. "It takes forty minutes by subway.""That'
Judy felt curious about what her Lewis' girlfriend looked like and why Lewis was so indulgent that he even sent her gifts on special days without caring about the cost. After Leo reported his work and left, Lewis also went to the meeting room for a conference, and Judy continued to write her scheme.Just before leaving work, she finally finished writing, took a long breath of relief, checked it again, and was quite satisfied. At that moment, Judy's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she quickly answered."John." Judy's voice was cheerful: "Have you come back from your business trip?"On the other end of the phone, a man's gentle voice replied: "Yes, I'm back. You should be getting off work soon, right? I'm downstairs at your company, let's have dinner together.""If nothing unexpected happens, I should be able to leave on time," Judy said: "Some things have happened while you were away. I got promoted, and Susan, she found a boyfriend and moved out..."Judy briefly informed him about t
