After Ambrose’s confession about his past in the council chambers, things between Sephora and the Lord went pretty much back to normal. Only now, there seemed to be a new unspoken trust and understanding between them, that they'd never had before. Sephora was now allowed into any room she wished in the palace - to her delight. When she discovered Ambrose owned a huge ballroom, she frequently found herself sneaking inside to dance when no one was watching.Over the following days, Sephora and Ambrose had slowly developed a silent way of communicating with each other. By using the bond they shared, along with the meaningful glances that they gave each other, they could let the other know what the other was thinking. It was good fun, sending each other emotions and giving silent glances, Ambrose had even said with enough practice they could start learning how to send words to each other through the bond. Sephora found this way of communicating with the Lord incredibly entertaining, espec
The Seer's words hung in the air.The floor felt like it was about to open up and swallow Sephora whole. Her mind was completely blank with shock, she couldn't feel anything - that familiar numbness overtook her senses, and it almost reminded her of when her name had been called out as The Chosen, that same dread. How could it be possible she was an Ardanam? Humans couldn't have a Soulborn power, unless... Sephora felt dizzy - was her soul really that strong? It explained why she was Ambrose's mate, but - how could this be possible? As if The Seer had read her thoughts, she shifted those glowing eyes onto Sephora. Those lips peeling back to reveal those hideous teeth as she gave Sephora a smile. Sephora's stomach dropped to the floor, out of terror and shock. She was about to turn to Ambrose beside her, to see his reaction, as he had gone as silent as her - when he snapped,"Bullshit!" His face was pale. Sephora immediately tensed, as Ambrose clearly forgot his own cautioning about b
"I hate you." Sephora panted through her teeth, arms pumping sloppily beside her.For at least 2 hours, Ambrose had made her run laps around the pit. Sephora had been fine for the first hour, and was even fairing quite well for a further twenty minutes, when the sun had risen to full height in the sky, beating down on Sephora's head while she continued to run laps. All the while, Ambrose had crafted himself a stone canopy over his head, in the center of the pit and was now lounging on a chair, that he'd brought over, and was merrily drinking from a glass of ice water. Sephora scowled and Ambrose just chuckled, taking another swig of water."I really, really do hate you." She grumbled. This was not what she'd been expecting to happen.Ambrose snickered again, "No you don't." He sat forward in his chair. "Ok, you can go into a walk now, walk one lap and then come over here."Sephora almost collapsed in relief, as she broke her long strides and started her walk. Sweat was pouring down he
Sephora's blood went colder than the obsidian stone she sat upon. As the weight of Ambrose's words sank through into her very bones.War, was that really what the Lord wanted? Even after everything, after all the bloodshed from 500 years ago, how could Vince possibly want to go back to war. What was his reason, what did he want? What was possibly worth so much sacrifice and waste of lives?Sephora looked to her mate, "Why, why would he go to war - what for?" Her hazel eyes were pleading, and she was sure what felt like pain rippled down their bond, as Ambrose watched her.He shook his head in decline, "I don't know - I was hoping Ravyn would have been able to find out." He lifted his brows up expectantly at the Shadow, who only shook her own dark head in return, her thick dark waves swishing gently with the movement."I'm sorry my Lord, but I couldn't get anything of Vince's motives for amassing this sudden army. Even Lord Daemon was keeping quiet about it, I have no idea what they're
Sephora finally stopped dancing. When her feet had begun to ache and her back began to protest, from repeatedly lifting her arms, and doing ridiculous back-bends. She'd sat herself down along one of the banquette tables, amongst all the food and sweets, admiring her people as they laughed and drank and ate.All things considered, she was most impressed with her dress - it was more flexible than she'd realised. It hadn't even ripped, despite the fast sharp movements she'd been making along the cobblestones, and the children that had clung to her. Sephora had also been pleasantly surprised with the Shadow's dancing skills. Ravyn had danced with whoever she could get her hands on, some young males, a shy elderly female, she'd even a spun a few children around - all the while grinning from ear-to-ear, looking like she'd never been so happy in her life.Sephora herself felt much better, her soul felt lighter than it had been all day, and for a few moments she felt at peace and didn't even
"This is pathetic, Ravyn - tell me where he is. I have something important to ask him." Sephora cut her off, getting impatient with her excuses. The Shadows eyes went wide, "No!" She protested, and immediately quieted her alarmed tone, "He can't be allowed to see you tonight, he'll never forgive himself if anything happened to you."Ravyn even looked fearful. But Sephora didn't care, she'd had enough. She had no idea what the Shadow was going on about - it was just celebration, why would anything 'happen' to her. The Shadow was being unreasonable, and refusing to tell her where her mate was. The fact that she even had the nerve to be making these excuses, made Sephora's anger flare, it seemed the Shadow had forgotten that Sephora was Lady - and she wanted to know where her mate was. Mustering her strength and anger, Sephora brought down her mask of steel and menace."Where. Is. Ambrose." Sephora demanded. Ravyn's blue eyes were still wide, and she even looked slightly paler, as she ga
She hadn't forgotten the way Vince had looked her up and down, during their first meeting. The way he'd flirted with her. The way he'd made an offer to her to stay at his court, if and when, Ambrose had 'tired' of her. Sephora was absolutely furious with Ambrose and his behavior, and was still suspicious of Ravyn - enough that it would definitely work to her advantage with the dark Lord. It was time to see if that offer of his, was a genuine one, or if it was all just a bluff.Sephora entered the throne room, and walked with long graceful strides, over to the door of adamant stone. She'd finally read up, what the black mist behind the door was. It was in fact a portal - a rip in the world, that bent and fluctuated under the host's will, so it could take you to where ever you wanted within Igritann, to a point. It had been crafted by the teleporting Lord Daemon himself.Sephora halted before the door and splayed her hand against the cold smooth stone. She wasn't a Lord of stone, but she
Sephora took a deep breath. Reminding herself she was doing this for her people, that they needed information on Vince's plans. If Ravyn had come up with nothing through spying, then Sephora had to get it through other means. This was necessary. She could do this, she wouldn't allow herself to be intimidated or afraid - she wouldn't be afraid. So Sephora squared her shoulders, well aware she was still in her gold and silver evening dress. Perhaps that could also work in her favor, she told herself. Before her, Vince's grin widened, and so Sephora took a step forward. The Lady of light walked up the the Lord of darkness, with her shoulders back and her head held high. And watched the Lord give a low bow, before straightening and offering her a large, tanned hand. Sephora took his hand without hesitation, marveling at how someone who lived in shadows and darkness, could be so tanned - maybe he could let her father in on a few pointers of how he did it. But Sephora quickly shut out the t
