I woke up the next morning wearing a huge smile. Ever since the death of my mother, I had not smiled that big. In fact, I had not smiled at all. With my pitiable life here in the manor, there was no place for happy emotions but today was different. I was tinkled pink remembering what had transpired last night between me and the Alpha. He had made love to me three times. There was still the soreness to prove it. I had left early this morning before the manor woke and ran back to my room.
I wondered when the Alpha would make it known to the public. I could not wait to be by my mate’s side and spend forever with him.
I quickly prepared and got ready for the day.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, Tasyra.”
The maid I’d saw as I walked into the kitchen greeted me back, it was also the maid who had come to inform me that the Alpha wanted to see me. Then she looked at me in wonder.
“What has got you in such a good mood this morning?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re grinning from ear to ear.”
“Let’s just say I feel awesome this morning.”
“Awesome?”
“Yes.”
“Well, it’s a good news though so you should be feeling awesome.”
I frowned, slightly befuddled.
“What good news?”
Do they know already? My heart raced wildly in my chest. Had the Alpha made it known yet?
“The one I suspected the Alpha was calling you for last night.”
“I thought you said you did know why he was calling me?”
I questioned, not quite understanding anymore.
“I said I suspected. I was not sure but it was already known so I thought he must have been calling you to assign you some duties.”
“What exactly are you talking about?”
I abandoned the broom I was about to use.
The maid stared at me as though she could not understand me.
“What do you mean? Why did the Alpha call you last night?”
“That is no longer important. What duties did you think he was about to assign me for and why?”
I was now curious to know.
“You have not heard?”
“Heard what?”
“Oh yes, I remember you don’t actually care for manor gossip.”
And she was right. I had no time to pay attention to gossip. I was always on my own, doing my own thing. Moreover, I was extremely avoiding getting into trouble with the Luna.
“I care this one.”
“There is an engagement party happening tonight.”
“What engagement party? Who’s getting engaged?”
“Who else? The Alpha, of course.”
Blood drained from my face. She must be lying.
“The Alpha is getting engaged?”
“Yes.”
“To whom?”
“The Beta’s daughter.”
“What?”
That had come out as a squeak.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, I am fine.”
She eyed me strangely and continued with her duties. I quietly left the kitchen. No, she must be lying. It’s still early, the Alpha was probably still in his chambers. I went there and knocked.
“What are you doing here?”
He asked as soon as he opened the door.
“You’re getting engaged?”
He drew me in and closed the door.
“What is it?”
“Are you getting engaged?”
“Do you have a problem with that?”
He was not denying it. So it was true.
“But why? You…we…last night”
I could not properly form words. My lips trembled badly, I was barely upholding myself.
“Last night was a mistake.”
“A mistake?” My heart could not be more shattered than it already was. “How can you say that, Haden?”
“It is Alpha to you.”
He glared daggers at me.
My head bowed in submission.
“I’m sorry, Alpha.” Then I raised my eyes to his face. “But how can you?”
“How can I what?”
“What we shared last night? I mean, you and I, the…”
Words failed me again. I was shaking so bad, I could not believe the day could take such an unpleasant turn and it was still early.
“I told you it was a mistake. And don’t make it sound as if I forced myself on you or cajoled you into it.”
“I’m not saying that but you and I shared something great last night. We bonded.”
“No, we did not bond. There was no bond.”
“So what happened here last night?”
“It was mere sex between two consenting adults.”
This wave of humiliation hit me so hard that my knees buckled, I held the bed post for support.
“Mere sex? No, you’re lying. It was not mere sex. You felt the bond too. You felt the mate bond.” I walked to him and held his hand. “Why are you doing this to me? To us?”
“I am not doing anything.”
He snatched his hand away.
“We are mates. Bound by the Moon Goddess herself. We are mates by flesh, blood and soul. Don’t do this. We’ve already consummated the bond.”
I could not afford to lose him. He was my first. The only man to have ever seen my nakedness and he was my mate. Why was he doing this? More tears replaced the ones that had fallen either to the floor or my gown.
His laugh was short and mocking.
“Don’t build castles in the air. We did not consummate anything. Don’t you know the rule of mate bond?”
I stared wordlessly at him.
“You silly girl. We are not yet mates until we both accept it.”
“I accept you as my mate.”
I uttered, desperate to hold onto my mate.
“You did not let me finish.”
“What?”
“We both must agree but if one of us rejects the mate bond, then it can never be.”
“No. No. No. Please don’t do this. We belong to each other.”
“Stop being pathetic.”
His words pierced my already shattered heart and it bled more. I clutched my chest as I tried to control my tears.
“I, Alpha Haden of Moon Rock pack, reject you Tasyra, a common maid as my mate.”
His expression was stony and his gaze icy. So icy that I quivered from the coldness of it. “Now get out!”
I was at the point of giving up. I hurt all over, both emotionally and physically. Mentally too, I was drained. Ever since the Alpha chased me out of his chamber, the Luna had extremely been on my case. Sending me from one place to the other. Making sure I was involved in a lot of strenuous activities even those that were meant for men alone, she commanded me to do it.It was noon already, the sun was beaming brilliantly and I was yet to have breakfast. While others had been taking breaks and eating, I was made to continue working. I cried from the sheer unfairness of it all until my eyes were puffy, my voice was cracked and the tears had stopped coming.“The Luna wants to see you.”My heart beat increased and I sighed and willed myself to remain calm. I left the farm and began walking towards the manor. My steps were slow and dragged but who could blame me? Working for hours under a scorching sun without food, just water was bound to do that to anyone.“Yes Luna.”I bowed my head whe
“What I have done to you?” My voice was shaky with tears. How could she threaten to make life hell for me? Was it my fault the Moon Goddess made the Alpha my mate? Why did everything have to be my fault? She raised her hand and brought it down on my face, it left a stinging sensation in its wake. Tears filled my eyes, blurring my vision. “How dare you, slave girl? How dare you?” She seethed.“But..but…” I could not form any words. I was in pain, both emotionally and physically. My chest constricted in pain. What have I done wrong? Why was Zaryn behaving this way to me?“Shut up, Tasyra.” She shunned me. “The next time you’ll talk when I’m talking, I’ll kill you. I don’t care whose mate you are.” She spat in my face.I kept quiet, watching anger and meanness flicker on her face. I hated what was happening to me? First, it was the Alpha rejecting me after a night of bliss between us, then the Luna treating me like some a piece of trash, as she usually did. Now, it was Zaryn. I sighed, k
“It’s break time.” I heard that same familiar voice say.I paused in my work and raised my face to his, using my hand to shield the sun from disrupting my view. He was holding something this time, and it was water, that I was sure of. “They do break times here?” I asked him. I was still new to this farm work so I had no idea how it usually went. “Of course, why not? We need to fuel our system too.” He chuckled softly. My gaze flickered on his face, I was feeling a bit abashed. I spread my lips in a small, coy smile. I lowered my head, directing my eyes back to the berries I was picking. The farm was quite expansive, one could not see the end but the beginning. And I was given a large portion to focus on alone, courtesy of the Luna. “I still have work to do.” I told him. I knew he had said it was break time but I was scared. What if the Luna saw me seating without working? The others, as workers, were allowed to have breaks, but it was a form of punishment for me. I was definitely
“So she just started hating you for no reason?” He asked me. We were almost done with eating, and not wanting to seem greedy especially since he was the owner who was benevolent enough to let me join him, I stopped eating. He looked at me inquisitively. ”Why did you stop eating?”“I’m done, I’m okay.” I lied, smiling. “Thank you for the food.”“I don’t believe you.” He pushed the food closer to me.“But why? It’s your food, you should eat more.” I told him, trying to steer the food towards him.“I don’t agree with you, let’s both keep eating until we both see the end. I don’t care who brought the food.” He was being stubborn, and it was in a good way though. I would not lie, the way he was showing concern and care was overwhelming but I was too scared to let myself get involved with him. Not for any intimate reasons, but even for the sake of simple friendship, I was scared.I did not have any friends and I was used to it. The Luna did not want to see me happy with anyone, not even a
Alpha HadenHow dare her? What was she doing with that guy? She was supposed to be working, not having a break.“Are you jealous, Haden?” My wolf, Gaya, asked. I could feel his arrogant wolfy smirk in my head, where he was. Where every wolf usually was.Wolves and their human host had the ability to communicate with each other telepathically. I found it useful sometimes, other times, I just wanted Gaya to shut up. And today was one of those days I wanted him to shut it.I ignored him and continued watching Tasyra eat and chat with that farm guy, I was going to find out who he was. She had no right to talk to anyone, she was supposed to be working.“You rejected the mate bond, Haden.” Gaya put in, obviously trying to make fun of me.“What is your problem?” I angrily asked.“Just want to know why you’re here monitoring the girl you rejected when we already have another girl we want to marry.”“So when it comes to the rejection, it’s me. But for Zaryn, it becomes us?” I was getting irrit
“Good day, Alpha.” Fagel greeted, his head was bowed in respect. The Alpha shot daggers at him with his eyes, then he swept his heated gaze to me. It took all of my will not to tremble beneath his stare. My heart pounded viciously, my stomach churned nervously — I almost felt like throwing up Fagel’s food. I could not maintain gaze with him, so I had to lower my head. Not in respect like Fagel, but in fear. I should have stood my ground against taking a break, I had no right to according to the Alpha and his mother. I bit my lips, waiting for his brutal verdict. I was so shake my fear and nerves that I had to clasp my hands to prevent them from quivering.“I asked you a question, Tasyra. What are you doing?” His tone was low but the rage could still be heard in the voice.I kept mute, unable to reply, my head was still lowered. The ground was far more interesting than the foreboding expression he was wearing, and worse, it was aimed at me.“The Alpha is talking to you.” Zaryn stepped
“Does this mean Alpha Haden likes me, or did I mishear?” I pondered, wondering if there was a chance for me to be his Luna. The possessive tone in his voice when he asked Fagel to keep away lingered in my mind. As he was about to leave, our eyes locked, I couldn't help but notice, for the hundredth time, his striking sterling grey eyes. The gaze felt like being drawn into a profound, enigmatic ocean. His intense and captivating look held me spellbound, evoking a mix of emotions within me, love, admiration, fear, and resentment all at once.“Are you okay?” Fagel inquired as soon as the Alpha departed. His interruption pulled me out of my reverie, and I wasn't sure if I welcomed it. Drawing nearer and resting his hands on my right shoulder, he added, "I won't abandon you like the others, no matter what." His words brought to mind the numerous friends who had distanced themselves due to the shame and penalties they faced simply for being associated with me. "Thank you, Fagel," I replied,
“The Luna calls you.” A servant had told Tasyra.“T-the Luna?” Tasyra stuttered, “But why?” She continued as tears welled up in her eyes.“You should be used to trouble by now” the servant scoffed at her.Tasyra broke down crying. She knew a summon by the Luna was no good. She had been hiding her pregnancy from everyone including Fagel, and she somehow was sure the Luna would detect it. After minutes of sobbing, she braced up as she headed to the Luna’s place. She anticipated the worst. As Tasyra approached the Luna's manor, her palms grew sweaty. She was nervous and unsure of what to expect. “What have I done now?” she queried herself. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. It opened, and she was ushered in by a servant. She looked at the place she once served in before she was banished to labour on the farm. She noticed changes as the place was decorated with more luxurious furniture and expensive paintings. The Luna's place was without a doubt one of the most beautiful pl
