Sophia's POV
Fifteen years of being seen as a halfling in my own pack. Fifteen years of living with guilt because my father killed his only best friend who was an Alpha, driven by greed, and stole his throne. My father is dead now, yet his sins still breathe through me. And now the previous Alpha’s son has returned to claim back what was stolen from him.
The cruel twist is this. I have craved to see his face again.
I loved Lucian Grey when we were still tender and unbroken. Before blood turned into curses and names became weapons. I loved him quietly. From a distance. I loved him the way a girl loves a dream she knows she is not allowed to touch.
But today is different because he will choose his mate. And my bloodline would be a curse in his mouth if I dared to stand too close to him.
The hall was already full when I walked in. The marble floors were polished so smooth that they reflected the moonlight pouring down from the glass dome above. Silver light coated everything, cold and unforgiving. The elders by in a half circle near the Alpha seat, their faces carved with age and secrets. Pack members filled the rows behind them, and whispers slithering through the air like restless snakes.
I took my place where I always did. Not hidden, but not welcome either. Just visible enough to be judged.
My heart would not slow. Each beat slammed against my ribs like it was trying to escape. I pressed my palms together, grounding myself, reminding myself who I was now. Not the silent girl they broke. Not the daughter of a dead tyrant.
Sophia Harvey. CEO of Sterling Atelier. A woman who had learned how to survive rooms far colder than this one.
“May we all rise.” Elder Edward’s voice rang out, sharp and commanding. Chairs scraped loudly as everyone stood at once. The sound scraped against my nerves. I rose with them, breath tight in my chest.
The doors opened. And the room changed.
Lucian Grey stepped inside, and the air itself seemed to bow.
He was taller than I remembered. Broader. Power rolled off him in waves that pressed against my skin. His black suit clung to his body like it was made for war, not ceremony. His dark hair brushed his collar. His face was carved from grief and control, sharp jaw, cold mouth, eyes like winter steel.
I forgot how to breathe.
So this is what fifteen years turned you into, I thought. Not broken. Not softened. But sharpened.
A quiet breath slipped past my lips before I could stop it. He's still beautiful. Still dangerous. The thought felt like a sin. Around me, voices stirred.
“Lucian Grey.”
“The rightful Alpha.”
“He has returned.”
I watched him walk forward, every step slow and deliberate, like the world should move out of his way. He did not look at me. Not once.
Elder Edward gestured toward the carved Alpha chair. “Lucian Grey, take your seat and claim your birthright.”
Lucian inclined his head slightly. “Thank you, Elder.” His voice was deep and cold, carrying easily through the hall.
When he sat, something settled into place. Like the pack itself had been holding its breath for years.
The air tightened and my lungs burned.
Elder Edward lifted his hands. “Tonight, under the watch of the Moon Goddess, we welcome our new Alpha. Let the bond be sealed by tradition, by blood, and by fate. Let us honor the return of Grey blood to the throne.”
Cheers erupted.
“Lucian Grey lives!”
“Long live the Alpha!”
I clapped with them. My hands were damp. My smile was tight.
Why does the sight of you still undo me, I wondered bitterly. I had stood in boardrooms filled with powerful men. I had closed deals worth millions without blinking. Yet one look at Lucian Grey, and I was that girl again, standing at the edge of his world.
The cheers died suddenly.
Old Marina drifted forward, her white robes glowing under the moonlight. Her staff struck the floor once, the sound sharp and final. “The moon speaks tonight,” she said. “The bond of mates is declared.”
The hall erupted into gasps. My heart stumbled. I forced air into my lungs, my fingers curling into fists at my sides.
Marina turned first to Lucian. Then she turned to me. “The Moon Goddess has chosen,” she announced. “Sophia Harvey is the fated mate of Alpha Lucian Grey.”
The world tilted.
For one suspended breath, everything was silent. Then Lucian stood. His chair slammed backward with a violent scrape.
“No.”
The word cracked through the hall like thunder. “No. I reject this bond.”
Whispers exploded around us. Shock. Delight. Hunger.
I straightened my spine. My heart rattled, but my voice did not shake. “You reject me?”
His eyes burned faint silver. “I reject this curse. This insult.”
I stepped forward before fear could stop me. “An insult? To stand where the goddess points?”
Lucian’s nostrils flared. “You think this is destiny? It is a mistake.”
“Because the Moon Goddess chose me as your mate,” I said evenly, “or because you are afraid?”
A flicker crossed his face. Surprise. Then fury. “Afraid of what?”
“Of someone who will not bow,” I answered. “You are surprised it was me. Out of all the women in this pack.”
Murmurs swelled.
“ Lucian, I built Sterling Atelier from nothing,” I continued, my voice steady. “I do not need your name, and I will not beg for it.”
Lucian took a hard step toward me, his voice dropping into a growl meant only for me. “You have no idea what I know about your blood.”
I met his gaze without blinking. “Then enlighten me, Alpha.”
He leaned close. Too close. Close enough for the pack to hear every word. “You do not want that truth.”
I tilted my head and whispered softly, for him alone. “You can hate me. You can hate every drop of Harvey blood. But you will not bully me. The goddess bound us for a reason, and you will feel that bond every time you breathe.”
His pupils flared. “What did you just say?” he rasped.
I turned my face to the room, a cool smile lifting my lips. “I said perhaps you should sit before you embarrass yourself further.”
A ripple of shocked laughter ran through the hall.
Lucian’s jaw tightened like it might shatter. “You think words can chain me?”
“I think the truth already has,” I replied.
He spun toward the council, fury blazing. “You sit there and call this fate? The Harveys killed my father. Her father murdered his own best friend and stole his throne. And now you expect me to lie beside their daughter as my Luna? Never.”
Gasps tore through the crowd.
I did not move. “You speak of the past while the future waits,” I said. “If you are Alpha, prove it. Face me, not my bloodline.”
His eyes narrowed. “Careful, Sophia.”
“Why,” I asked softly. “Afraid I might match you?”
The hall buzzed like a live wire.
Elder Edward rose slowly. “Lucian. You must not defy the will of the goddess. This is bigger than you. It is for the pack.”
Lucian laughed, bitter and sharp. “The goddess watched while my family was destroyed. She stayed silent while everything was stolen. And now she wants to hand me their daughter as a gift?”
Another elder spoke, calm and firm. “You will abide by the bond. For the city. For the survival of the pack.”
Lucian turned back slowly, fire burning in his eyes. “Make me.”
Elder Valen acted swiftly. He was a man of his word, and he didn’t believe in wasting time when it came to the laws of the pack. Early the next morning, a courier arrived at Lucian’s office. He didn't deliver a standard envelope. Instead, it was a thick parchment sealed with dark red wax, stamped with the heavy Raven logo.Lucian would have normally received such a letter at the Raven mansion, deep within the pack territory. But he wasn't there. He had decided to stay in the heart of silver moon estate, the human city, running both his billionaire business empire and his werewolf pack from a distance. He liked the control. He liked being able to pull the strings of both worlds without being tied down by the dusty traditions of the elders. He had stayed in his own private estate because Sophia had once refused to let go, and now he found himself trapped in a city he both loved and hated.Leo was the one who had to skim through all the mail delivered to Lucian’s desk. As soon as his eye
Sophia’s POVThe inside of the car fell into a deep silence for quite a while. The air felt thick, heavy with the smell of Lucian’s expensive cologne and the faint, lingering scent of the spicy street food I had just been eating. It was a clash of two worlds, his world of cold marble and billion-dollar deals, and my world, where I was just trying to breathe again.Lucian turned his head slowly to look at me. His eyes were dark, like the sky right before a massive storm hit the city of Blackwood. He looked at me with so much judgment it felt like a physical weight on my chest."Because I think that you are stupid," he said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous vibration. "There is something wrong with your brain, Sophia. You’re blind.""I really am..." I broke into a bitter laugh. I felt the sting of tears, but I forced them back. I looked at him, at his perfectly tailored suit and his arrogant posture. What was he even doing? He has hated everything about me since the second he step
The bustling food stall was filled with an intense flavor of life. The air was thick with the scent of grilled squid, spicy oil, and the loud, happy chatter of people enjoying their evening. It was a world away from the cold, sterile hallways of the Raven Pack mansion or the suffocating luxury of the Silver Moon Estate.Sophia sat there, looking like a misplaced pearl in a sea of gravel. Her slightly curled hair was messy but elegant, bunned up quickly with a shark clip. As she lowered her head to look at the plastic-covered menu, her loose sideburns fell forward, framing her face. Her ebony hair made her already pale skin look even more radiant, almost glowing under the cheap fluorescent lights of the stall.Pointing at the menu, she said something softly to Mr. Bruce, who was sitting right beside her. Bruce nodded with a kind smile, and Sophia beamed back, reaching out to call the waiter over with a graceful wave of her hand.Up on the second floor of the restaurant across the stree
Sophia stared at Elana as if she had seen a ghost. For a moment, the only sound in the room was the hum of the air conditioner and the distant honking of cars in the city below."Do you like someone so much that you would have to remind them every day how her parents slaughtered your own?" Sophia’s voice was dry, cracking with a bitterness she couldn't hide. "Do you love someone by flaunting your mistress in their face and leaving them on the side of a dark road? Your idea of love is indeed unique, Elana! If that’s falling for someone, then I’d rather be hated."Elana realized she had stepped on a sore spot. She winced, nodding in unison with Sophia’s logic. "That's true, Sophia. I'm sorry. It’s just... his reaction in the mall. And the way you said that, it looks like he wanted to rip that Ethan guy’s head off, even though Ethan doesn't exist."She paused, leaning forward on the sofa. "But think about it. Why is he so determined to have you move back in? Not just back to the Raven Pa
I would have to be out of my mind to wait for Lucian. How can I let him humiliate me in front of Arielle's agent? Never! I refused to stand there like a scolded child while he showered his mistress with gifts. But it looks like I had underestimated Lucian's speed. I had barely reached the glass doors of the boutique when I saw a tall figure striding toward me through the mall's atrium.Lucian was dressed in a slim black shirt, the fabric stretched tight across his broad shoulders, and crisply ironed suit trousers. With his handsome face, noble temperament, and a natural arrogance that seemed to radiate from his skin, he looked like he stepped off a runway. Good looks, great temperament, young, and wealthy… overlooking his philandering ways, Lucian was definitely a god among men. He carried the heavy, suffocating power of an Alpha in every step.Alongside him was Leo, whose presence was usually strong, but Lucian’s king-like aura was simply impossible to ignore in comparison. In the fe
Sophia’s POV"Did Arielle ask you to say this?"I stared at Naya, my mind spinning. I was confused. How could someone I had never even met know me so well? I hadn't seen Arielle’s face once since she arrived in the city, yet here was her agent, acting like she knew the secrets of my soul. But I wasn't going to let an agent, a woman who worked for a mistress, to toss me out like I was yesterday's trash.I was still Lucian’s mate. The Moon Goddess had chosen me, even if Lucian’s heart was trying to fight it….. My chin lifted arrogantly, and I felt the power of the Harvey bloodline coursing through my veins."It really is a sign of moral decay these days," I said, my voice dripping with cold disdain. "Before, mistresses would hide in the shadows, shaking in fear of being discovered and punished by the pack. But now? Now they dare to send their little servants to provoke me, his wife."I took a step closer to Naya, invading her personal space until she had to tilt her head back to look at
Raphael telling me to wait? Come on, was he sent by Lucian to taunt me more? The very idea felt like a slap in the face. I had already been humiliated in that office, standing there like a beggar while they discussed my life as if it were a business loss. I wouldn't take that from him for one bit.
Elana laughed as she said that, her voice ringing out through the high ceilings of the L’Etoile Couture like a silver bell. But I didn't join her. I looked at her in confusion while staring at the dress like it had turned into my enemy already. The midnight blue silk, which had looked so beautiful
Lucian’s POV Bang! The heavy oak door slammed shut, and for a moment, the entire room seemed to vibrate with the force of Sophia’s exit. The air she left behind was still thick with the scent of her, that maddening mix of jasmine and something wild that made my wolf want to howl at the moon. It wa
This is all I ever wanted from you Lucian. Call my name like you desire me and let your pain go away. I could feel the heat radiating from his skin, like a burning fever that seemed to melt the very air between us. The way he said my name wasn't with the usual ice or the sharp edge of a blade.
