Betsy’s POV

I woke up gasping as cold water was poured over my body.

“About time. I wasn’t able to wait any longer.”

I looked up and after my eyes adjusted, I saw the outline of a woman dropping a bucket on the ground.

Vivian.

Of course it was her. I didn’t know if I was supposed to laugh or scream. “What do you want?” I rasped.

“That’s a complicated question,” she tilted her head as she smiled the same perfect wicked smile from the party. “I want what’s mine.”

“I don’t know why you seem to think that there’s something between Drake and I, we…”

She moved faster than I could blink, fingers gripping my chin so tightly I gasped. “Let’s start with the way you just said his name. You don’t fucking know him, you have no idea who he is.”

“What exactly did you even hear? Dra— we’ve only spoken because he took me to school. There’s nothing going on between us.”

“He looks at you.” She released me, her expression changing into one of disgust and anger.

I stare at her, flabbergasted beyond words

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.    Chapter 66

Drake’s POVThe study gave off a scent made up of paper and vintage wooden furniture.I had spent a lot of time in that room, but my perception of time was quite distorted. It was like a rubber band that would stretch when I decided to and disappear when I needed. My desk looked like an odd sort of mixed-up puzzle made of files that I had stacked in heaps that I had already sorted and shuffled a few times over. I had Patrol reports. Territory notes. Supply lists. Complaints from border guards.Important issues.Matters that an Alpha of the pack should take care of.I took one of the documents and opened it, forcing my eyes to scan through the words. My eyes got through the first line. Then the second. When I got to the third, my mind started to drift away.I slowly closed the file.My fingers stayed a bit longer than necessary on the cover. There was an object of considerable mass on my chest, my chest felt tight. I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling for a moment, takin

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 65

Vivian’s POVThe mall resounded with the loud voices of people and their conversations.I was dazzled by the heavy glass, the shining floor, and the overpowering lights all around me from all sides. You could barely hear the music in the background, which was yet another composition that was both happy and annoying. The people passing by, the loud laughter coming from them, together with the shopping bags in their hands, made it seem like they were leading a simple life.My life, however, was not as rosy as theirs.I was in the fitting area on a small platform looking at myself in the mirror. The dress was very close to my body, white silk at my waist and hips like second skin. It looked so good on me and had a miraculous creation that could make even the most skeptical believe in the fairytale theme. But I was not one of them.“Please, turn around ma’am,” the salesperson spoke gently.I did as directed. She came slowly around me, arranging the fabric and placing it in the right way.

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 64

Betsy’s POVThat night I went to bed not having said much at all.My body was exhausted, but my brain kept going in different directions. I was lying on my side, facing the wall and listening to the house’s quiet sounds. The refrigerator’s soft hum. The floor in the distance creaked a little as Nick went around before he finally got into his room. The house was warm. Safe. But still, it was hard to fall asleep. It took a long time, but I eventually drifted off to sleep and my sleep was very light. I woke up a few hours later, still in the same position. My eyes were wide open and I was gazing at the very dim outline of the ceiling. The morning light had not been able to come into the room yet. Everything was dark and quiet. My chest was getting tighter.I remained in bed with the blanket wrapped more tightly around me. My thoughts were trudging along, slow and heavy. I was aware that my not going to Drake was the right decision. I was sure of it.But the ache was there and knowing did

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 63

Drake’s POVThe summons arrived just before night came. Not via the mental connection. Not softly. But a straight order relayed through the old Alpha channel, the one my father always used when he didn’t want to hear any excuses.I stayed silent.I just went. The pack house looked the same as before, big and quiet, lights shining delicately through the windows. It should have felt like home. It didn’t. Every single move made inside was like entering a house that had lost its owner. The guards acknowledged and let me pass. Nobody uttered a word. The atmosphere inside was thick. The walls appeared to be nearer than I had them in my mind. The odor of the house, wood, stone, power was like a tight grip on my chest. My father was already there in the council room when I showed up.Harmony was next to him.She noticed me and looked up. Her gaze melted a little for half a second, and then she quickly turned her head away. That alone already made me anxious.“Have a seat,” my father ordered.

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 62

Betsy’s POVI honestly thought that there were no such moments for me anymore. At the table. Me with a plate in front of me. Nick right opposite me. Shea was in the kitchen, acting as if that was her place. The house was warm. Silent.Being this relaxed seemed a little too much.I took my time chewing, hardly tasting the food. Nick was going on about something minor-supplies, schedules, but my thoughts were drowning him out.I gave a smile whenever it was required. But inside, something was still trying to get out.

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 61

Betsy’s POVI just couldn’t continue walking any longer. To me, the thought of going towards there was wrong. That was why I turned to my home. The delay at which I had to return to my home was tougher than the solitary and confused days spent on the road. With every step, my heart felt the pressure of the emotions getting stronger and the past coming back to my mind. My legs were indeed moving, but my mind was in the past and along with it, all the emotions I had not allowed myself to feel were dragging me to.The house was already visible and again I stopped. There was a light.I stood still for a moment, taking my time patiently, just staring at the glow in the window, watching it spill like a golden waterfall down the steps. The place had not changed at all. Everything remained the same. Not even a little thing was there to indicate that I had been away.I slowly opened the door. The hinge made a little but familiar sound which was not too loud. As soon as I entered, warm air wrap
