Laura's POV.

My eyes were still on the message Lucas had sent to me. All of a sudden he needed us to talk again, why did he even need us to talk?

He was here some few minutes back and no matter what I said to him he just wouldn't understand me. So was there going to be any difference if we still get to speak again?

He would still repeat the same things that were already getting to me. He will talk about how I ruined his life and about how I betrayed him.

He would look at me with so much anger

Lucas's POV.I knew something was wrong the moment Zara walked through the front door. She did not even try to slam the door or even cry, she literally didn't even look very angryShe simply walked inside, handed her bag to one of the house staff, and headed upstairs without looking at anyone.I was standing in the hallway when she passed me.“Zara.” I called out to her.Her fingers tightened around the strap of her bag. Then she turned slowly.“Yes, Dad?”I studied her face.“You're back early.”“I wasn't feeling hungry.”“You ate?”“A little.”“With who?” Her eyes flickered away.It lasted less than a second. But I saw it.“Zara.”She looked at me again.“What?”“Where were you?”“At the restaurant.”“With your security?”She comes quiet and to be sincere that was the answer I needed for me to know that everything was not okay. “Where did you go after you left the restaurant?”“I went somewhere.”“Where?”She looked past me toward the stairs.“I don't want to talk about it.”“You don

Vanessa's POV.I watched Zara leave through the restaurant window. I didn't move until the car disappeared. Only then did I sit back down, my hands were shaking.I pressed them flat against the table.“Stop.” The word came out quietly.I hated that she could still do this to me. After all these years. One look at her face and suddenly I was back there. A little girl asleep against my chest. Tiny fingers wrapped around mine.A child who believed her mother could fix everything. I closed my eyes. That woman was gone. The mother Zara remembered was gone. And yet when she had looked at me today, I had wanted to reach across the table and pull her into my arms.I wanted to tell her everything. I wanted to tell her why I left. Why I stayed away and why I came back. I wanted to just lie to her and manipulate her but she seems so smart. I just want to use her to accomplish my goal with Victor and get my billions of dollars. Victor could make me rich and I just had to use Zara to make myself

Zara's POV.I stared at the envelope on my bedside table until the words on it blurred.”Zara.”It was just my name.My fingers tightened around the blanket. I have already read the letter twice and I still don't know what to do with it. I could not even say it to anybody because I just wanted to process everything on my own.“I know you don't want to see me.”That part had been easy to believe because I really did not want to see her. But I still don't understand why she was still forcing things with me, expecting that I was going to understand her. I actually hate my mother so much and she should just accept that fact and stop disturbing my peace. I hate her with every living being inside of me.“But there are things you deserve to know”That was the part I couldn't stop thinking about. What things was she talking about after all these years? I picked up my phone.Lucas's name was at the top of my messages. I opened our conversation and typed.“Dad, can we talk?”I stared at the me

Lucas's POV.I should have been sleeping. Instead, I was sitting in the security room at two in the morning, staring at a screen that showed an empty driveway.I couldn't see cars or people. Not even a stray animal crossing the road, everything just looked very normal to me.That was the problem. I just suddenly stopped trusting everything I saw, nothing felt normal to me anymore. Because I felt like it wasn't supposed to be normal.I leaned back in the chair and rubbed my eyes. I was feeling so sleepy but I could not even sleep, my eyes were already heavy and reddish due to lack of sleep for days. The past few days had turned into a cycle.I will check the camera's, check the gates and my guards. Also check the locks, I will check up on Zara and Laura then I will do it all over again. I could not even trust my guards whom I call my men to even do the job correctly. I looked at the clock. It was 2:06 a.m, I should have been beside my wife cuddling her to sleep. Instead, I was watchin

Laura's POV.I woke up because something felt different. At first, I thought I had slept badly. My back ached, my legs felt heavy, and there was a strange pressure low in my stomach. I shifted beneath the sheets and waited for it to pass but it didn't. I placed my hand over my stomach.“What's wrong?” Lucas murmured beside me and I looked at him. His eyes were still closed.“Nothing.” I said and he opened one eye.“You're awake.”“So are you.”“Because you moved.”“You complain even when you're half asleep.”He reached for me, his hand finding my waist beneath the blanket. Then he stopped, his eyes opened properly.“Are you okay?”“Yes.”“Are you sure?”“I'm fine. My back just hurts a little.” I complained. He pushed himself upright immediately.“Where?” I laughed softly.“My back, Lucas.”“I know. Where on your back?”“Lower.” I said and he was already throwing the blanket aside.“Do you need the doctor?”“No.”“Laura.”“I'm not dying.”“You're carrying two babies.”“And they're doin

Victor's POV.I watched Lucas's penthouse from across the street until every light on the ground floor disappeared. My eyes were on the living room, the kitchen, the hallway, then the upstairs windows. Lucas had finally closed the curtains. That was a good one and I leaned back in the driver's seat and looked at the photograph on my phone. It was the same house, the same gate and the same family hiding behind the walls.I zoomed in. Nothing about the picture was particularly interesting to me, that was exactly why I liked it.It didn't need to be. The message had already done its job, it had to ask Zara what Vanessa gave her. It was just a simple sentence. It was enough to make Lucas wonder who was watching and make him question Vanessa. To also make him look at his security team differently because fear didn't always need to scream, sometimes it just had to whisper alone.Enough to make him question Vanessa. My phone vibrated in my hands. I looked at the screen to see that Vanessa w

Laura's POV.I woke up suddenly, my body jerking like I had fallen from somewhere high. For a few seconds, I just laid there, staring at the ceiling. My heart raced for no clear reason, the room felt unfamiliar to me but not enough to scare me, yet my body felt wrong. It felt heavy and used. I felt

Laura's pov.The alcohol burned in my veins. It was louder than my thoughts. I knew this wasn't me. Not the sober me. Not the careful girl who over thought everything and apologized too much. But the alcohol didn't care about who I usually was. It peeled me open and let something reckless breathe.

Laura's POV.For a split second, after my palm connected with Chad's face. People stared at me in awe, like no one trusted what they had just seen. The old Laura would have apologized by now. She would have cried. She would have begged him to understand. She would have folded herself into something

Laura's POV.This day was supposed to be perfect. It was my last day in college, and for once, my chest felt light instead of tight. The kind of light that came with endings that promised new beginnings for me.I stood in front of my mirror, turning slowly, smiling at my reflection like I was meeti
