What Sara said only made me even more nervous. That’s why I became more determined not to run into my boss.

Because I was pretending to feel weak, I didn’t join Sara when she invited me to have lunch outside. I told her I’d eat in the pantry instead, just so I wouldn’t go far. I needed to keep up the act—so if there was anything I had to bring to my boss that afternoon, I could leave it to her.

I ended up eating alone, feeling a little down, since almost all of my colleagues went out for lunch. A new restaurant had just opened across the company, so they decided to check it out.

I was sipping my coffee while heading back to my table when I noticed a woman walking toward me. She was dressed in an expensive suit. I knew because my mom had similar ones and had told me how much they cost.

“Excuse me, Miss. Where’s the office of Engr. Ferrer?” she asked as she scanned the area.

I paused for a moment before answering. “Ma’am, I think you’re in the wrong place. There’s no Engr. Ferrer here.” I gave her a polite smile.

She frowned. “Are you sure? I was told he transferred his office here.”

“There really isn’t, ma’am,” I said, trying to reassure her.

“Seriously? Engr. Alaric Ferrer? CEO of Helexion Pharma?” She raised a brow, obviously not believing me.

My lips parted when she mentioned a name that sent a chill through me. Was she talking about Satan? Did she mean Alaric—the Alaric I know? And wait, she called him an engineer? Not just an engineer, but a CEO? Of Helexion Pharma? The leading pharma company in this country?

Is this a joke?

I couldn’t answer. Because it was impossible that she meant Alaric Satanas. If it was really him, then why was he my boss? It’s not that I believe he’s a CEO, but let’s say he is—why would he be my boss when my project isn’t even related to drugs or anything about pharma? And if he really is a CEO, why is he here in our department? I’m not complaining about our workplace, but there’s nothing fancy here. Just simple desks and chairs for employees like me, and simple rooms for bosses.

There are plenty of Alarics in the world. But I went still when I realized—I never even bothered to find out my boss’s last name. The nameplate on his desk belonged to my previous supervisor, so I had no idea what his full name was. What if he really was Satan himself?

“Hello! Are you listening?” the woman suddenly snapped me out of my thoughts.

I blinked and shook my head. There was no way that man could be a CEO. He had no manners. Not qualified to be a CEO!

It was a good thing our supervisor was heading our way. I wanted to hide because I wouldn’t know what to say if he asked about the project, but he had already noticed me—standing with the woman looking for the CEO.

“Umm… excuse me, where’s Engr. Ferrer’s office? I was told he transferred here,” the woman asked him. She didn’t even wait for him to come closer.

My supervisor smiled at her. “Yes, ma’am, his office is here.” He gestured toward Alaric’s office.

There’s no way!

“Why on this floor? Why not the upper floor?” the woman asked in a snobbish tone. She glanced around, one eyebrow slightly raised.

“I don’t know, ma’am. He chose to stay on this floor,” my previous supervisor replied politely. “I also can’t quite understand why the CEO of Helexion Pharma would choose to have his office here.”

I blinked repeatedly at what I was hearing.

“He gave up his huge office just to stay here?” I heard the woman say as my supervisor escorted her toward Alaric’s office.

My feet nearly gave out. I stared blankly at them as they walked toward Alaric’s office. I couldn’t believe it. There was no way!

I couldn’t take in what I had just learned. I had only been pretending to feel weak earlier, but now it felt like I was really about to come down with a fever. I asked for permission to leave again. HR agreed, probably because they could see I wasn’t in my right state of mind.

I was in the elevator on my way down to the ground floor when the doors suddenly opened. My heart slammed against my chest when I saw who was stepping in. It was Alaric. There was no one else inside. Just us. I couldn’t suddenly get out because what reason would I even give?

He stared at me intensely as he walked toward me. I didn’t know what to do. When he stood beside me, I couldn’t even move.

I heard him chuckle.

“Seraphina,” he called in his raspy voice.

My heart skipped a beat. I didn’t look at him or speak.

He stepped in front of me and faced me. I managed to step back, my back hitting the elevator wall.

“Look at me,” I heard him say, mockery laced in his tone.

“You didn’t go to work yesterday because of the kiss?” he asked arrogantly. “And why didn’t you bring those files yourself, huh? Were you embarrassed?”

I didn’t speak. Not when I knew he had the power to actually fire me. Not after learning that he was indeed Engr. Alaric Frost Ferrer—the CEO of Helexion Pharma. I was sure now; I had searched it on the internet.

Because of my complete silence, I felt his fingers grip my chin, and then he crushed his lips against mine.

My eyes widened. I tried to push him away, but I couldn’t. I was even more terrified when I noticed the CCTV inside the elevator.

A wide grin spread across his face when he pulled away from the kiss. He even wiped my lower lip, as if checking whether some lipstick had smudged.

“I approve your proposal. You can now start the project,” he said as the elevator doors opened.

I don’t know if the person on the line heard it. He licked his lips and chuckled darkly as he listened. He slid a hand around my waist and pulled me closer. He leaned me against his chest, and together we faced the view outside. I smiled when I caught our reflection in the glass. He was holding me while on a business call. I, on the other hand, stared outside, listening to their conversation. The next day, my hand felt a bit better. I could move it without pain. So after breakfast, I went on with my work. Alaric did the same. He was constantly on calls or video calls about business. That’s how we spent the entire day—working. The day after that, Alaric had to go out to meet the person he came to Italy for. I was fine being alone. It’s not like I’d disappear if he left me by myself—but he didn’t like it.“I’ll be fine… no one’s going to kidnap me here,” I said, a little stressed. I’d been explaining for a while that I was okay on my own.He scoffed. “I know you’ll be fine.”I rolled my

I moaned when I felt Alaric’s hand on my legs, almost brushing my private part. I jolted when I felt his other hand slip inside my T-shirt.“Alaric, please…” I said, even though I didn’t know why. I barely recognized my own voice—it sounded so sensual. He groaned. His lips returned to mine, kissing me again. I couldn’t control my hands, but because one of them was bandaged and hurt whenever it was touched, I kept it pressed to my side even though I badly wanted to hold on to him.I moaned again when I felt his hand move between my legs. He traced slow, circular motions there, making me squirm. I tried to close my legs. He didn’t like that, so he forced them apart with his thigh. Now he had full access to my private part, my legs wide open for him.His other hand landed on my breasts, kneading them like dough. I moaned loudly at what he was doing to me.He chuckled playfully. My breath hitched when I felt one of his fingers brush my private part. He pushed my panties aside, and shivers

I don’t know how many hours I was unconscious. I woke up to find a proper bandage wrapped around my hand. I was also lying properly, which I remember I wasn’t before I lost consciousness. My hand no longer hurt, and I felt a little lighter. But who treated my wound? Did Alaric do it even though he was mad at me?I was still deep in thought when the door suddenly opened. I saw Alaric holding a tray of food. His face showed no emotion, and I knew he was still mad.Come to think of it, it really was my fault why he got angry. I was with him on this trip, then suddenly I disappeared without him knowing. If he did the same to me and suddenly vanished, I would be angry too—especially since I didn’t bring much money with me.He placed the tray on the bedside table. I looked away when he stood beside me. My chest slowly grew heavy because of the thoughts running through my mind.Does he still think I’m pretending? That I fainted just to avoid working?“Here’s your breakfast,” he said, still s

Alaric immediately rushed to me. I couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into tears. Maybe because of the pressure and the pain in my right hand. Even more when I saw him approach me with anger written all over his face.“You couldn’t even do a small thing without causing trouble,” he said irritably, gripping my bleeding hand.I closed my eyes and simply accepted his harsh words. I really thought he had started to treat me better. I thought that because of his kisses, he would stop mistreating me. But I was wrong.Even with tears clouding my eyes, I could still see his jaw clenched tight. He was still angry even though I was hurt.“You planned this so you wouldn’t be able to work, huh?” he accused, disappointment dripping from his voice.I pulled my hand away from his grip. I wiped my tears and slowly stood up, forcing myself to hold back my sobs.“You want me to pity you, huh… good try, Seraphina.” He smirked. “But it’s not working, so get the fuck up and report to me the progress of

Alaric fell asleep from how drunk he was. I pushed him away because I was starting to feel breathless. He was much heavier than me.Nervously, I sat up after managing to lay him down beside me. I heard him groan, but his eyes remained closed.Feeling weak, I stood up and paced back and forth. I couldn’t believe what had happened. I know he was drunk and probably didn’t know what he was doing, but it was still terrifying to think that something worse could have happened if he hadn’t passed out. What was he even angry about? Was it because I went out? Or because I was with Magnus? Is he jealous?I let out a sarcastic laugh at myself. Come on, Seraphina. He’s been making your life miserable—why would he be jealous? But then… how did he know I was with another man? Did he see us?Since Alaric was completely asleep, I didn’t know where to sleep. Carrying him was not an option. I also didn’t want to sleep in his room because something might go missing and I could get blamed for it.For seve

I immediately asked Magnus to take me back to the hotel after reading Alaric’s text. My phone had been on silent, and I hadn’t checked it since I left. Magnus kept asking if I was okay because I looked pale on the way back, but I only nodded at him.It was already dark when I got out of his car. I didn’t even manage to thank him because I was in such a hurry. I heard him call out to me, but because I was anxious, I didn’t turn back.I practically flew down the hallway toward our suite. I had spare key cards, so I got in right away. When I opened the door, the place was dark. A few lights were on, but not enough to see the whole room clearly. At first, the place was quiet, so I thought Alaric was already in his room. But I was wrong. I felt chills when he spoke.“Where did you go?” he asked coldly.I couldn’t see him clearly in the dim light, but when he spoke again, I finally made him out. He was sitting on the couch, a glass of alcohol in his hand. He swirled the drink, then looked s
