I can’t figure out what was wrong with my boss. I know he’s mad at me, which is why he always makes sure to criticize and humiliate me. But why the sudden approach? Why keep messing with my brain now?

I gripped my hair as my thoughts spiraled, an annoyed groan slipping from my lips. What exactly is he plotting?

“I already told Mama,” I heard Serenity say to Scarlet.

They were in the living room with me. I was supposed to stay in my room, but I would’ve gone crazy if I did, so I came out instead. I thought being outside would distract me, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Alaric.

I took another leave for the sake of my sanity. I planned to go to work next week. That’s what made me feel guilty because I wouldn’t be able to help much with the house expenses, since there would be a deduction from my salary because of this.

I let out a sigh and tugged at my hair again.

I didn’t even notice when Mama sat down beside Serenity, and she ended up seeing me on the verge of losing my mind.

“I told you, Mama. She’s been like that since Monday,” Serenity complained.

I sat up straight. I glared at Serenity, but she ignored me. Instead, she raised a brow at me.

“What’s the problem, Sera?” Mama asked gently. I could see the worry in her eyes.

“Nothing… I’m just thinking about something embarrassing…”

“No. It’s about work for sure. She even said she doesn’t want to see her boss anymore,” Serenity insisted.

I let out a small gasp, and they noticed it. That alone confirmed it was all about my boss.

“Is your boss giving you a hard time?” Mama asked worriedly. She moved closer and held my hand.

“I’m okay. You don’t have to worry about me… I can handle this.” I made my voice sound casual, like it wasn’t a big deal.

“I don’t think so, Mama. She comes home staring blankly at nothing as she walks to her room. She couldn’t even spare me a glance because she was deep in thought,” Serenity said. I glared at her again.

Why does she notice everything? I know I haven’t been myself lately whenever I get home. But how could I not be? After what Alaric did. After those kisses!

“Ate, if you’re having a hard time at work, it’s okay to resign,” Scarlet said with a smile. “Serenity and I both have scholarships now, so tuition fees won’t be a problem anymore.”

I turned to Mom. I didn’t know they had scholarships. Their tuition fees had always been one of the things Mom and I worried about the most.

Mom nodded at me. “They both passed. So if you want to resign from your job because you’re having a hard time, that’s okay with me.”

It was reassuring to know that I didn’t have to be scared of getting fired. My mom and my two sisters were fine with me resigning.

I felt relieved. The only reason I couldn’t afford to resign or skip work was because of money. Now that my two sisters have scholarships, it’s a huge help for us.

So the guilt I felt from skipping work disappeared. To hell with Alaric. If he fires me, then so be it. I’m no longer afraid of losing my job.

And what is he even doing in our company… in our department? His own company’s office is way better. And why the hell am I reporting directly to him if he’s a damn CEO? I don’t understand these schemes. There must be something going on.

The next day, I felt happy now that I didn’t have to think about anything. It’s Friday, but I have no desire to go to work anymore. And I don’t feel guilty about it. They can deduct this day from my salary. It’s not a problem anymore.

I turned to my digital clock on my nightstand and saw that it was already ten in the morning. By this time, there was no one around the house. Mama was at work, my two sisters were at their university, and Papa was probably here if he didn’t go out to look for a job.

I was about to go back to sleep when my phone suddenly rang. I raised a brow when I saw that it was a new number.

“Hello?” I answered.

For a few seconds, no one spoke. My brow lifted even more.

“Hello?” I said louder this time.

I heard someone clear their throat on the line, and immediately, I knew who was on the other end.

Alaric!

“Where are you?” he asked in a low voice.

I instantly rolled my eyes. His voice actually sounded good on the phone. Why is he such a jerk in person?

“I don’t want to go to work,” I replied casually.

He stayed quiet.

“Did you hear me?” I asked. “I’m not working today,” I repeated, just in case he hadn’t heard me.

He chuckled. “I heard you the first time, Seraphina.”

“Good to know!” I smirked.

Did he think I’d be scared now? No way! His threats about firing me won’t work anymore!

I don’t know if the person on the line heard it. He licked his lips and chuckled darkly as he listened. He slid a hand around my waist and pulled me closer. He leaned me against his chest, and together we faced the view outside. I smiled when I caught our reflection in the glass. He was holding me while on a business call. I, on the other hand, stared outside, listening to their conversation. The next day, my hand felt a bit better. I could move it without pain. So after breakfast, I went on with my work. Alaric did the same. He was constantly on calls or video calls about business. That’s how we spent the entire day—working. The day after that, Alaric had to go out to meet the person he came to Italy for. I was fine being alone. It’s not like I’d disappear if he left me by myself—but he didn’t like it.“I’ll be fine… no one’s going to kidnap me here,” I said, a little stressed. I’d been explaining for a while that I was okay on my own.He scoffed. “I know you’ll be fine.”I rolled my

I moaned when I felt Alaric’s hand on my legs, almost brushing my private part. I jolted when I felt his other hand slip inside my T-shirt.“Alaric, please…” I said, even though I didn’t know why. I barely recognized my own voice—it sounded so sensual. He groaned. His lips returned to mine, kissing me again. I couldn’t control my hands, but because one of them was bandaged and hurt whenever it was touched, I kept it pressed to my side even though I badly wanted to hold on to him.I moaned again when I felt his hand move between my legs. He traced slow, circular motions there, making me squirm. I tried to close my legs. He didn’t like that, so he forced them apart with his thigh. Now he had full access to my private part, my legs wide open for him.His other hand landed on my breasts, kneading them like dough. I moaned loudly at what he was doing to me.He chuckled playfully. My breath hitched when I felt one of his fingers brush my private part. He pushed my panties aside, and shivers

I don’t know how many hours I was unconscious. I woke up to find a proper bandage wrapped around my hand. I was also lying properly, which I remember I wasn’t before I lost consciousness. My hand no longer hurt, and I felt a little lighter. But who treated my wound? Did Alaric do it even though he was mad at me?I was still deep in thought when the door suddenly opened. I saw Alaric holding a tray of food. His face showed no emotion, and I knew he was still mad.Come to think of it, it really was my fault why he got angry. I was with him on this trip, then suddenly I disappeared without him knowing. If he did the same to me and suddenly vanished, I would be angry too—especially since I didn’t bring much money with me.He placed the tray on the bedside table. I looked away when he stood beside me. My chest slowly grew heavy because of the thoughts running through my mind.Does he still think I’m pretending? That I fainted just to avoid working?“Here’s your breakfast,” he said, still s

Alaric immediately rushed to me. I couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into tears. Maybe because of the pressure and the pain in my right hand. Even more when I saw him approach me with anger written all over his face.“You couldn’t even do a small thing without causing trouble,” he said irritably, gripping my bleeding hand.I closed my eyes and simply accepted his harsh words. I really thought he had started to treat me better. I thought that because of his kisses, he would stop mistreating me. But I was wrong.Even with tears clouding my eyes, I could still see his jaw clenched tight. He was still angry even though I was hurt.“You planned this so you wouldn’t be able to work, huh?” he accused, disappointment dripping from his voice.I pulled my hand away from his grip. I wiped my tears and slowly stood up, forcing myself to hold back my sobs.“You want me to pity you, huh… good try, Seraphina.” He smirked. “But it’s not working, so get the fuck up and report to me the progress of

Alaric fell asleep from how drunk he was. I pushed him away because I was starting to feel breathless. He was much heavier than me.Nervously, I sat up after managing to lay him down beside me. I heard him groan, but his eyes remained closed.Feeling weak, I stood up and paced back and forth. I couldn’t believe what had happened. I know he was drunk and probably didn’t know what he was doing, but it was still terrifying to think that something worse could have happened if he hadn’t passed out. What was he even angry about? Was it because I went out? Or because I was with Magnus? Is he jealous?I let out a sarcastic laugh at myself. Come on, Seraphina. He’s been making your life miserable—why would he be jealous? But then… how did he know I was with another man? Did he see us?Since Alaric was completely asleep, I didn’t know where to sleep. Carrying him was not an option. I also didn’t want to sleep in his room because something might go missing and I could get blamed for it.For seve

I immediately asked Magnus to take me back to the hotel after reading Alaric’s text. My phone had been on silent, and I hadn’t checked it since I left. Magnus kept asking if I was okay because I looked pale on the way back, but I only nodded at him.It was already dark when I got out of his car. I didn’t even manage to thank him because I was in such a hurry. I heard him call out to me, but because I was anxious, I didn’t turn back.I practically flew down the hallway toward our suite. I had spare key cards, so I got in right away. When I opened the door, the place was dark. A few lights were on, but not enough to see the whole room clearly. At first, the place was quiet, so I thought Alaric was already in his room. But I was wrong. I felt chills when he spoke.“Where did you go?” he asked coldly.I couldn’t see him clearly in the dim light, but when he spoke again, I finally made him out. He was sitting on the couch, a glass of alcohol in his hand. He swirled the drink, then looked s
