Mia

“Congratulations Mrs Nova, you’re pregnant.”

The words made my mind go blank. In the walls of the company’s restroom, only a light buzzing sound remained.

Pregnant…

“Mrs Nova?”

“Yes,” I blurted out, my voice deceitfully calm despite the blood roaring in my ears, “I'm sorry. Please continue.”

He continued speaking on the other end of the line for a few more minutes. The words ‘checkups’ and ‘pre-natal vitamins’ reached my ears, yet I couldn't process a word he said.

The call ended and the line went quiet but my head didn’t. I let my hands drop against the vanity top. The marble sent a chill through my skin.

I was pregnant. Six weeks along, from what the doctor said.

It was a good thing. I should be happy. I WANTED to feel happy.

But I felt none of that. Only a weighted hollowness that settled heavy in my chest.

Because all I could think about was the way everything had been falling apart, piece by piece.

After what felt like an eternity, I stepped out of the restroom and into the open air. Surrounding me, in the corporate jungle of NovaTech, men and women glitter about in offices.

Here I wasn't Mia the person. I was Mia, Project Manager and Department head of NovaTech.

I moved towards my office. When I arrived, I bumped into someone. I straightened to find that it was Jenny, my secretary.

“Ma’am, I was looking for you. I...” She glanced around anxiously before leaning in and lowering her voice, “I was asked to inform you. The Big Boss just returned from his travels. He's asking for you and he didn't look happy.”

My jaw clenched, a wave of anxiety tightening in my chest at those words.

He was back.

Jenny looked just as visibly tense. I took a deep breath and smiled assuringly.

“Thank you, Jenny. I'll take it from here.” I said smiling until she left. Only when she was out of sight did I let it fade.

It didn't take long to reach the top floor of the sprawling skyscraping building that led to HIS office. As soon as I reached his door, I took a slow breath, but it sat heavy in my chest.

It wasn't hard to predict why he'd summoned me—he never did unless it was necessary, especially not these days. That only meant that he heard about the events several days ago…and my failure.

I knocked lightly, hearing his muffled voice give assent before I entered. The door slid open and there he was.

Damon.

The CEO of NovaTech. My boss.

And my husband, in secret.

He sat behind his desk, one hand flipping through a stack of files as I stepped in. As soon as I entered, he stopped all his actions and looked up. His gaze met mine, his expression cold and unforgiving.

He wasn’t happy.

“Mr Thragg informed me about what happened a few days ago,” he said coolly. “According to their account, midway through negotiations with the Callahan's, you left the meeting room abruptly and didn't come back late. Your team had to handle everything without you and make excuses on your behalf. Do you have anything to say for yourself, Miss Dawson?”

That name was akin to an icy sting. That was my maiden name, a name which he only used within the company to avoid suspicion.

Here, I wasn't his wife, just a subordinate.

My throat tightened. It was just as I expected.

I could recall that day. Midway through the meeting, I felt a sudden nausea. Over the past few days I'd suffered smaller bouts of it and, despite not knowing why I constantly felt sick, I tried to ignore it and believed I could hold on.

But it grew heavier with every passing minute. It wasn't until I nearly retched on the table that I stormed out without thinking towards the nearest restroom.

The memories following that were spotty. I woke up later on the restroom floor and discovered that the deal was settled. I couldn't face my co-workers after.

That day, I'd scheduled a hospital appointment. It was only minutes ago, with the doctor's verdict that I understood exactly WHY.

“My apologies Mr Nova,” I said, “I take full responsibility for the incident. That day, I actually fe—”

“Enough,” his voice cut through my words as he stood up.

“Miss Dawson, do you understand what your absence and actions would have cost us? Had your team not taken control of the situation, the deal we worked hard for would have fallen apart. I trusted you to handle things properly as usual. You've truly disappointed me.”

His harshness wrapped around my chest, tightening with every second.

From the beginning, Damon had always been pragmatic. He oversaw NovaTech with a strict precision and efficiency that frightened other competitors, bringing the company to its heights and giving him the reputation of being ruthless in the industry. When it came to professional matters, he was equally as strict with himself as he was on others, never sparing any cost.

I shouldn't have been bothered but it only made my heart hurt.

Because once, he was different with me.

The day I joined the company, I met him by accident. Months later, he pursued me in secret, confessing his feelings. I was cautious at first, yet he wore down those pieces in my heart through his actions. No matter how distant he was in public, when we were alone he was warm and caring.

So when 6 months after we began dating, he asked me to marry him, I agreed.

That was two years ago.

For these past two years I’d been his secret wife. I endured everything whilst working beside people who had no idea I went home to the same man they called their boss.

Despite the secrecy, I didn't mind, as long as I had him and he still loved me.

But gradually, he began to grow distant towards me in private. No matter how I tried to reach out, there was a barrier between us.

Now, standing in his office, I felt it again. That invisible line.

  • My Billionaire Ex-Husband Won’t Let Me Go   Chapter 106: Game Over

Adrian The metal table in the interrogation room felt ice cold beneath my cuffed wrists. The walls were painted a dull, depressing grey, and a single, glaring overhead light hummed loudly, casting harsh shadows across my face.I sat slumped in the metal chair, staring down at the scuffed table surface. My heart raced like a caged animal. Skyline—my company, my empire, everything I had built—was being dismantled brick by brick right this second. The police had my servers. They had the wire transfer receipts. They had Athena locked up in a cell just down the hall, already crying and ready to point fingers at anyone to save her own skin. For the first few minutes, I tried to keep my composure. I told myself I was Adrian. I was a brilliant businessman. I had faced hostile takeovers and board fights before. I could talk my way out of this. I just needed to ask for my lawyer, stay quiet, and let my legal team pick apart their digital evidence. Then the steel door creaked open. Two dete

  • My Billionaire Ex-Husband Won’t Let Me Go   Chapter 105: Can’t Take It Anymore

Mia The cold night air rushed against my face as we pulled up outside the secure holding facility where Athena was being kept. My hands were still shaking slightly, not from fear, but from a burning, blinding rage that I had never felt before in my entire life. They had taken Jim. They had walked into our home, stolen a terrified little boy, and used him as a pawn just to hurt us. And the mastermind behind it all wasn't some cold-hearted cartel boss or a stranger. It was Athena. The same ungrateful girl we had tried to help, the same girl who had played the victim just days ago. I couldn't take it anymore. The games, the lies, the constant threats to our family—it was finished. Tonight, it all ended. Damon parked the car, cutting the engine with a sharp flick of his wrist. He looked over at me in the dim dashboard light, his eyes hard as stone. "Stay behind me, Mia," Damon said quietly, though he didn't try to stop me. He knew there was no holding me back. "No," I re

  • My Billionaire Ex-Husband Won’t Let Me Go   Chapter 104: Rescued Him

Damon Mia was shaking. Tears streamed down her pale face, her breath coming in fast, ragged gasps as the terrible reality settled in. Our son was stolen from his own bed by cowards who wanted to use him as a weapon against me."They took him, Damon," Mia sobbed, her voice breaking as she covered her mouth with trembling hands. "They took our boy. How did this happen? How did they even get inside?"I couldn't afford to break down. If I panicked, we lost. I had to be strong for both of us.I crossed the kitchen in two long strides, pulling Mia tightly against my chest. Her body was trembling so hard it cut deep into my heart. I wrapped my arms around her, pressing my face into her soft hair, holding her tightly."Shh, Mia. Look at me," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion but hard as steel. I gently cupped her face, forcing her to look up into my eyes. "Listen to me. I will move heaven and earth. I will tear this city down brick by brick if I have to. But I promise you, with ever

MiaThe black car pulled into the private parking garage of the penthouse smoothly.Damon turned off the engine and came around to open my door. He took my hand, helping me step out. Even after a full evening of dinner, wine, and laughter, I didn't want to let go of him. The night air was warm, and my heart was still fluttering from how he had looked at me under the rooftop fairy lights. We walked into the private elevator, arms wrapped around each other's waists, whispering silly things and smiling like teenagers. As the elevator doors slid open to our floor, Damon pulled me close against his chest."I don't want this date to end," he murmured, his voice low and husky."Who says it has to end?" I whispered back with a playful smile. He leaned down, capturing my lips in a slow, sweet kiss. His hands slid up to cup my face, deepening the kiss as the cool penthouse air brushed against our skin. I tangled my fingers in his hair, melting into his warmth, completely lost in the magic of th

  • My Billionaire Ex-Husband Won’t Let Me Go   Chapter 102: Gotcha!

MiaThe steel bars of the holding cell had felt like a cage built out of ice, but the moment the electronic locks buzzed and slid open, the heaviness of the last seventy-two hours finally evaporated.NovaTech’s premier legal team—a small army of elite, sharp-suited attorneys spearheaded by Damon—had worked around the clock, tearing apart the fabricated warrants, and exposing the glaring inconsistencies in the late-night raid at Pier 4. The mountain of fraudulent evidence Mara and Athena had meticulously constructed began to crumble under the harsh light of judicial scrutiny. The security footage his team recovered from the docks didn't show Damon and me dragging a kicking, screaming victim into the shadows. Instead, it clearly captured Athena willingly stepping out of the storage unit, and then staging her theatrical, Oscar-worthy performance the very second the police headlights blinded the warehouse.By Friday afternoon, the charges were officially dropped. And by sunset, Athena f

  • My Billionaire Ex-Husband Won’t Let Me Go   Chapter 101: Convincing Lie

MaraThe popping of camera flashbulbs tore through the night air like tiny bolts of lightning, painting the rotting corrugated iron walls of Pier 4 in blinding white strobes.Outside, the chaos was a masterpiece of my own design. Police cruisers blocked every possible exit, their red and blue emergency lights cutting violent patterns through the fog. News vans sat idling with their satellite dishes locked onto the scene, broadcasting the unfolding spectacle live to millions of living rooms across the city. And from the tinted, climate-controlled comfort of my private black Mercedes sedan, parked just fifty feet away with a front-row view of the warehouse entrance, I watched it all unfold.A low laugh bubbled up in my throat, breaking the silence of the car. I pressed a hand over my mouth, but it did nothing to mask the intoxicating rush of adrenaline surging through my veins."Oh, look at them," I murmured to myself, leaning closer to the rolled-down window, my lips curling into a s

MiaDamon’s voice cut cleanly through mine. I turned to him.On his usually impassive face was something I couldn't read, but perhaps it was my imagination. MiaIt felt like I'd been dunked in an icy bath, chilling my bones into reality. She leaned closer to Damon holding his arm and looking up at him with a smile. MiaA lump formed in my throat as the words I wanted to say, the revelation that hung at the tip of my tongue was swallowed back. I kept my expression neutral as I nodded.“I’m sorry Mr Nova.
