*First Person's Perspective* ~Amanda~ I walked out of the hospital, my heart filled with joy. I couldn't wait to inform Carlos that he was about to become the newest father in town. I had been waiting for this news, since the past five years of my marriage. I felt really nervous as I pulled up in the driveway, thinking about the reaction I would get from him.A small smile appeared on the corners of my lips as I imagined the smile on his face when I dropped the news. My mind was preoccupied with the different ways that I could drop the news to him, maybe over a special dinner? That sounds just right. However, as I walked into our not so big, but decent apartment, I heard voices, soft little whispers and laughter, coming from the direction of our bedroom, this made my brows creased in confusion. No one was supposed to be home at this hour I walked up the staircase in hurried footsteps. When I approached the door, I began to tiptoe to avoid attention from the burglars I pressed my right ear on the door and the next minute, I froze. Those weren't just any type of sounds, they were sex sounds. Immediately, I pushed the door open, my purse fell off my hand, my eyes grew wide and for a moment there I just stood, my mouth opening and closing with no words finding their way out. I stared at them, disbelief in my eyes They had stopped what they were doing and turned to look at me, shock and fear in their eyes, but the next minute, it disappeared and was replaced with an expression of nonchalance "Car.. Carlos" I whispered, still trying to process everything. I refused to believe that my own husband whom I was about to start a family with would betray me like this and worst of all? With his Ex The woman who had done nothing but make my life a living hell. She had tormented me right from highschool. Wasn't he supposed to despise her as much as I did "What's... What's going on here?" I struggled to keep my voice steady. I refused to break down. Maybe there was a reasonable explanation for this. Saraya, his Ex, my highschool bully rose to her full height, picked up the bedspread and wrapped it over her lean but curvy figure, then walked towards my direction shamelessly. "What does it look like we're doing, stupid?" She asked with a smug smile. "I wasn't speaking to you, whore. I was talking to my husband" I responded sharply. My tone rightfully matching hers. She wasn't expecting that "How dare you talk to me like that?" She hissed and landed a slap across my face. Tears gathered in the corners of my eyes, but I fought with every ounce of my self control to blink them back in and maintain a stern expression. "Bitch!" I swung my hand at her but it got caught before it could get to her face. I raised my head to meet the cold eyes of the man I knew to be my husband. I opened my mouth to speak but before any words could find their way out he pushed me and I landed hard on my butt "Don't even think of laying your filthy hands on her, she's precious to me" he said. I tilted my head slightly. "What?" It came out as a whisper. Lower than I intended "Here. Sign it and get going. I don't want to ever set my eyes on you again" He threw a brown envelope at me. My gaze moved back and forth from him and the envelope. "What is this Carlos?" I asked, not entirely sure of what's happening. "Why don't you open it and find out, Amanda?. You don't have to show your stupidity always, you know?" He answered harshly. I sat there for about a minute before finally tearing the envelope open To say I was shocked is an understatement. I stared at the papers, my eyes wide, hands trembling. "D... D.. divorce? You want a divorce?" I found it difficult to say those words. What the hell was happening? How could one's life turn upside down into a complete mess in just a split second. What was the reason for this sudden betrayal? We had been good yesterday, we had no quarrel or disagreement. Just this morning, he told me how much he loved me before leaving for work. What changed? These and many more questions ran through my mind but I couldn't bring myself to ask cause as I sat there, stunned by the turn events, he turned to Saraya, their lips met in a tender, yet passionate kiss "You're the best woman to walk on this planet" he whispered into her ears, but I heard it. She giggled at his words. Tears streamed down my eyes I didn't deserve this. This was the utmost betrayal and disrespect anyone could ever receive. I jumped to my feet and rushed up to them, making sure to claw him on the face He turned to me, his chest heaving up and down in clear anger and disgust. "You wrench. What the hell do you think you're doing?" He growled, taking gallant and threatening steps towards me "You dare put hands on me? Didn't I tell you to leave? I said I didn't want to ever see that sorry face of yours again, right?" He questioned. Now he was just a hair length away. I opened my mouth to speak but before I could do that, I felt a hard palm collide with my cheeks. The world stopped spinning and I heard a continuous ringing in my ears Slowly, I raised my head to meet his eyes. He seemed to have realized what he'd just done and ran his fingers through his hair. "You make me do these things. Why wouldn't you just listen?" I couldn't speak. I couldn't form real words. The man I had cherished for years just hit me in the face for the first time ever and all because of what? Another woman. His fucking ex Uncontrollable tears streamed down my eyes as I stared at him but the next minute, my sadness was replaced with sudden anger "You slapped me all because of this slut? Ha-ha" my laughter was devoid of any form of humor. "Divorce? You want divorce? Fine. I'll sign the damn papers" I said angrily, picking up the scattered pieces of papers around the floor "Done. It's official. But know this. You'll hear from my lawyer" I said, throwing the papers in their faces and walked over to the closet to gather my belongings, but to my surprise, it was already packed. I blinked back the tears threatening to fall out and just grabbed the suitcases "Are you that dumb or are you just pretending to be? What do you need a lawyer for? You've already signed the annulment" Saraya said and they both laughed "I'm suing you for domestic violence" I answered firmly and turned to leave but he grabbed my arm and roughly pulled me backwards. "You're not going to do that," he said. His voice low and menacing "Then try to stop me” I challenged. Roughly pulled my arm away from his. "Oh the fuck I will” He answered and grabbed my arm again, pushing me backwards and trying to pin me down I struggled to free myself from his tight grip. "Let me go you bastard" I kept struggling and he eventually let go of my arm. Due to the fact that I wasn't expecting the sudden release, I lost my balance and fell backwards. My back hitting the wall with a very loud thud "Ow!" I winced, tears gathering in the corners of my eyes. I tried to stand up, but a sharp pain shot through my abdomen, searing through my whole body, I fell back, a tear dropping from my eyes "Oh my goodness! Carlos, she's bleeding" Saraya screamed in terror. I looked down and my eyes popped. Almost as though they were going to fall out of their sockets. My dress was soaked in my own blood. I screamed. "No, no, no, no. Please God, Please God. This shouldn't be happening" I cried, my hand placed on my belly as I tried to contain the pain. I mumbled prayers to any superior being out there to come to my aid "Quick, let's take her to the hospital" Saraya yelled as they both rushed up to me. Carlos gathered me off the floor and dashed out of the house "God no, not my baby" I cried out. That was the last thing I remembered before my head became light and fuzzy. My vision blurred and soon, the whole place turned pitch black Chapter Four - First Person’s Perspective - ~Amanda~ I walked away from Carlos with a smirk forming at the corners my lips, taking in every second of the encounter with delight and satisfaction. The confusion in his eyes, the hint of regret flashing across his face, the hurt he couldn’t quite mask—it was everything I wanted. No, everything I needed. The power I felt in that moment was intoxicating. I had envisioned this scene for years, rehearsed it in my mind countless times. Matter of fact, That’s why I went into that mall. It wasn’t a coincidence. He was my very target. I wanted him to see me, to feel my presence, to be haunted by the possibility that I wasn’t just a ghost from his past. And when I looked into his eyes, it was worth every second. I just knew I had made the right decision coming back here “Do I know you?” I had asked, feigning innocence, enjoying the way he stumbled over his words. The perfect performance and I deserved an Oscar for it The smirk faded as I t
Chapter Three- *First Person's Perspective* ~Amanda~ "She looks..." "I'm glad we..." I heard voices, faint and distant. Muffled, like whispers. I rolled on my sides, my eyes still shut, the scorching pain radiating in my head, stirs a feeling of hopelessness in me I try to remember how I had gotten into this situation in the first place, but my head is blank. Nothing comes up. "Maleek, her fingers shook, I think she's awake" I hear a voice say, this time it's clearer and I can hear it just beside me, I peeled my eyes open. Though my sight is blurry, I still take in my surroundings. Two pairs of eyes are staring down at me with a mixture of curiosity and concern I rise up from the bed, turning my head around, "where is this place?" I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper I struggled to sit up, my vision still blurry, but I saw two figures standing beside me. The first thing I noticed were their eyes, full of concern, and something else... curiosity? They looked at me lik
Chapter Two-*First Person's Perspective*~Amanda~The soft beeping of the monitor beside me was enough to pull me out of Dreamland, I turned my head to the opposite direction, and groggily opened my eyes. The throbbing pain in my head, a reminder of the nightmare I had come to face yesterday. My body jolted upright the moment I remembered why I was here in the first place. "Hey, Amanda. You're awake" Emily's soft voice said, her hands gently pressing on my shoulders to ease me back down . "What happened?" I asked, tightly grabbing on her hand, "What happened to my baby? Is he okay? Is he alright?" My voice shook and Emily's calm expression faltered for a moment Emily was Carlo's little sister. And even though she was just sixteen years old, she was still my very good friend, she understood me very much "I'm sorry, Amanda, I'm sorry, but he didn't make it" she turned her gaze away and I could see her struggling to hold back her tears. I went numb for a few seconds, and then everyth
