I didn’t have a choice. There was literally nowhere I could spend the night till dawn.

So I agreed and followed him inside. Kieran didn’t speak, just quietly led me into his room. The moment the door opened, I stopped.

Wow.

It was exactly like I’d expect his room to be; clean, neat, almost too tidy.

The bed was perfectly made, sheets tucked tightly like he was in the military.

His desk had a few books stacked neatly, a small lamp, and not a single thing out of place. The faint scent of his cologne lingered in the air and it made my stomach flutter for no reason.

“You can sleep here,” he said simply.

I turned to him, confused. “What about you?”

“I’ll stay on the couch.”

I wanted to tell him he didn’t have to. That he could just lie down beside me. Hell, we could even cuddle, maybe talk a little until we both drifted off. But then I remembered what he’d said earlier; that we were friends. That word still stung like a burn.

So I just nodded. “Right. We shouldn’t share a bed.”
