Instant Boyfriend

Naomi's POV

I burst out into a loud harsh cackle of laughter after I heard Lucas' proposal. I mean, he literally asked me to be his girlfriend in return for helping me to get my dream job. I slapped her arm lightly while still laughing but Lucas' face didn't even change so I stopped and tilted my head a bit backward and looked at him amusedly.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes." He replied.

"Oh my God. Thank you for making me laugh Lucas, but I don't think your janitor brother could help me to get that job—." I stopped when my phone rang. I held my index finger in the air to ask for one moment as I answered the call. "Hello?"

"Hi good morning Ms. Naomi Kim, this is Hannah from LM fashion incorporation and we would like to invite you for an interview and we hope to see you this afternoon at exactly 1 PM." My eyes slowly widened along with my mouth and couldn't find any words to respond to the woman on the other line. "Ms. Kim? Are you there?"

"Uh y-yes ma'am. Thank you! Thank you so much, I'll be there at 1 PM." I replied and when she hung up the phone, I screamed and started jumping. "Oh my God! Oh my God!"

"Who is it?" Lucas asked and that's when I realized that he's still in front of me. I turned to him and threw myself into him. "Whoa."

"Thank you! Oh my God! You are such an angel!" I exclaimed in so much happiness.

"So.."

"Yes! Lucas, I'm accepting your proposal." I said as I pulled away and smiled at him. "But please." I paused and looked at him. "Don't expect something from this relationship, I was just returning the favour." I added.

"No problem, as long as you're my girlfriend now." He said with a shrug of his shoulder as he smiled at me. Then I started screaming again in excitement while he was just watching me while giggling.

________

Lucas walked me back home so I could prepare for the interview, of course after we had coffee in the library. I know that food and beverages are not allowed in the city library but Lucas insisted on it, telling me that he won't open it until we had coffee first so we did that. Then he offered to walk me home before going back to his work while I prepared my portfolio and everything.

I couldn't even eat my lunch as I am too excited about the interview, I just keep practicing my words so I wouldn't look so stupid in the interview. By 12 noon, I decided to leave the apartment and hailed a cab to LM company.

I paid the driver and thanked him for dropping me off smoothly in front of a 67 floor tall building. I heaved a deep breath and sigh before I made my way to the entrance. The guard on duty greeted me which I returned politely then I proceeded to the reception table.

"Hi, I'm here for an interview."

"Hi yes, please proceed to the elevator and go to the 47th floor, just look for the conference room and look for the CEO'S secretary." She said and I thanked her.

As I walked towards the elevator, I couldn't help but to be amazed at the interior design of the building. Everything was a pleasing colour and glazed in the same vibrant shades of blue accented to someone's home. On the other side were like snapshots of midnight and ribbed like waves. Others colours were classically smooth, brilliant cyan glaze clinging to them like animal skin and dripping down the sides to add just the right dash of chaos. Against the deep browns of the couches, these simple pots were stunning just as they knew they would be when someone stood in the lobby.

The elevator arrived, there were people entering inside and I knew they were all looking at me, maybe because this is the first time they have seen me in here and I'm the only person who doesn't have an ID lace on my neck. I pressed the button heading to 47 floor and I could see the woman raised her left eyebrow through the reflection of the elevator door but I ignored her.

I don't want to indulge myself into a scene where new employees are the talk of the town or the center of the bullying. So I stayed timid inside the four corners of a metal room and waited to reach the floor where I am heading. One by one, all the people inside the elevator started to leave each floor until I was the only one left inside.

I heaved another deep breath and sigh when I noticed that I was close to my destination. Then the elevator stopped, it binged and the door slowly opened. I was actually expecting a long line of other applicants in the hallway, but I saw no one.

"Ms. Kim?" A man called when I stepped out of the elevator.

"Yes Sir." I replied and bowed my head to him.

"Great, you're on time, please follow me to the conference room." He said and turned his heels. I was almost running to catch up to him because he walked too fast, until he stopped in front of the full glass wall and I could see a woman inside. She must be the CEO or not and this man is the secretary.

To be honest, this company caught my attention since no one in this company has ever seen the CEO, even on interviews and all social media sites. They said that the CEO is still in another country. That's why I'm having a doubt if this woman is the one who could answer my curiosity.

"Good afternoon ma'am." I greeted as the man led me inside. The woman looked up from the folder she was reading, and I could clearly tell that it was my CV. Then she scanned me from head to toe and raised her eyebrow after.

"You may take a seat." She ordered which I gladly obliged and I sat on her left side while the man earlier stood on the corner. "So Ms. Kim." She started and I gulped thickly and nervously. "I see that you are freshly graduated in fashion design."

"Yes ma'am."

"So what makes you think that you could get in here without any experience in the fashion industry?" She asked without even looking at me as her eyes were so focused on her newly manicured nails.

She's brutally rude but I won't let her get in my mind. I need this job! I heaved a deep breath and exhaled slowly before smiling at her pleasingly.

"To be honest ma'am, I admit that I have no experience in this kind of job, but I'm here to have that experience—."

"So you think LM fashion incorporation is just a training ground for people without knowledge about fashion? Is that what you're trying to say?"

"No ma'am, I applied here because I know that I can show my knowledge about fashion and share every fresh idea that I have in me in this company. I'm not here to train because I'm here to prove that even a fresh college graduate can show their skills even without experience." I said, looking straight at her.

She chuckled mockingly and leaned back to her chair. "Honestly, I don't know how you get in here, I guess you—."

"Hannah." The man called in a warning tone. I was actually surprised to see him glaring at the woman in front of me. If he's the secretary, then he's one hell of a fighter to glare at this woman. I'm not sure what her position is in this company.

"Ugh." The woman groaned as she stood up from her chair. She stared at me down and rolled her eyes before walking out of the room, leaving me dumbfounded.

"What the hell?" I mumbled to myself.

"Thank you for coming, Ms. Kim. Please follow me, I will lead you to the exit." The man said and he led the way out.

I am so confused if I got the job or not, that Hannah left without saying anything. So with a heavy heart, I heaved up from the chair and followed the man. We stopped in front of the elevator, which was different from the one I rode earlier. I bowed to him as a thank you for being nice to me.

"Please take care." He bowed too. I smiled at him forcedly before entering the elevator. I leaned my back to the metal wall and let out a lungful sigh. I don't know what I said which led to that woman acting like that. Or maybe because I'm not really qualified for that job and they were just considering the janitor's request.

Sadly, I already agreed to Lucas to be his girlfriend without even sure if I will get the job or not. Then this happened. I don't know what will happen next.

Should I take back my answer to him? Or just stick to my words since I'm a woman of my words.

As I reached the lobby and made my way to the exit, my shoulders slumped down and each step felt so heavy. The guard greeted me but I didn't have the energy to respond so I just smiled at him.

"Hey, what happened?" I looked up and saw a man standing in front of me. He's wearing a mask, shades and a cap which made me feel scared thinking that it was one of those men in our apartment. I backed away from him but he grabbed my hand. I was about to scream for help but he spoke again. "It's Lucas." He said.

"Oh." All I could say and chuckle for was my ridiculous mind.

"So what happened?" He asked again but this time, more worriedly.

"I don't think I got it, the interviewer walked out." I pouted my lips and more slumped down my shoulders.

Lucas didn't respond for a second then I felt his arm wrapped on my shoulder, gently and hesitant. "It's okay, you'll get it. Just trust yourself." He said encouragingly while tapping my shoulder lightly. It somehow helps me to ease up the heavy feelings inside me.

"I trust myself, but I don't know what exactly I said wrong for her to walk out on me."

"Maybe you answered so well that she couldn't bear it and just walked away, but I know you'll get the job." He said as we both started to walk on the street.

To be honest, I couldn't imagine how Lucas being so optimistic could help me to feel encouraged that they would call me again and tell me that I'm hired. He's so good at lifting me up and I'm having second thoughts about taking back my words.

Well I guess it's not too bad to have an instant boyfriend.
