Under the Mafia King's Rule

I stood between trees in a lonely forest in the middle of nowhere, knowing Jace and his men stood at the opposite side, hiding behind trees. I shakily ruffled my hair to look rough— a little undone but still alluring. The sound of approaching engines had my heart slamming against my chest at an irregular rate. I let out a loud breath, pressing a hand against my belly and praying I wouldn't get myself killed with the stunt I was about to pull. If these men were anything like Jace and his crew, then they wouldn’t be that hard to fool. I started to race into the middle of the road, throwing my head behind me like I was being chased, tears staining my eyes, letting the black mascara Jace made me apply run down my face as I threw myself in front of the black, sleek, shiny car like I didn’t see it coming. I shut my eyes tightly as tires came to a screeching halt. This time, the horrified pants leaving my mouth were beyond real. Doors flung open, and three men in identical black sui

I awoke to a world that didn't feel like mine. I felt a new kind of different, and it was nothing compared to the last time this had happened. I had no desire to live on, no reason to fight for my life. I felt numb—except for the anxiety stuck in the center of my throat that I couldn't shake off. Something told me so much worse could happen to me than my imminent death. Since I regained consciousness an hour ago, I'd tried my hardest not to remember Jace's lifeless eyes. I wanted to pretend the last twenty-four hours had only been a dream and never happened. And that the blindfold against my eyes and my left feet being chained to the bed I was laid upon were also only a figment of my imagination. A door slammed open, causing me to flinch and stiffen. I tightened my closed eyes at the sound of footsteps walking into the room. One was fast and loud; the other was slow, deliberate, and carried weight—telling me that even the sound of his footsteps mattered. My blood rushed lou

The man in question dropped his utensils on his plate with a clink. His fiery eyes turned towards his girlfriend and her jaw shut close in seconds.“I-I think I'll head home. Dad's calling.” She squealed quietly and without waiting for another word she basically hurried out of the room like her ass was on fire.I tried shrinking into my seat and appearing invisible after that.Lynnie was the only unfazed human at the table. She yapped on about nothing in particular. Her father looked like her talking was the only thing of interest he'd rather be engaged in as he just quietly listened, giving her his full attention.I slowly and cautiously forced a few spoons of food into my mouth. My body was unable to keep food down.My back stiffened when he peeled his lips to talk. “How did your day go sweetie?” He softly asked her, his expression cool.Lynnie went off into another endless cute chatter. He hadn't looked in my question once since he sat, looking like he’d forgotten I was present whi

I rubbed my clammy fingers against my dress. Her eyes scanned me from my head and to my toe. “You must Giselle. The woman's who has stolen my grandbaby's heart.” She said, her face grim and Lynnie giggled at her grandmother's words. I didn't know if I should nod or not. She moved gracefully, her heels clicking behind her until she was standing directly in front of me. She stood towering over me and she bent like she wanted to scan my face properly. I tried to bend away from her touch as much as I could. She had her son's eyes. “I heard you were involved in my baby's kidnap.” I swallowed at the steely look in her eyes. My heart pounded harshly. I had no idea what to say. She was invading my personal space. “I-I-I didn't mean to.” I stumbled over my words. “Hmm.” She clicked, her unwavering gaze still on my face. “I also heard you were married to that brute.” She pulled back a little. “I-I.” “In our world, debts are always paid back in full.” My breathe hitched. “You've los

I laid in my room the entire day. I had no plans of ever going back out. The next morning, I was woken up by tiny feets paddling into the room and near my bed. “Giselle.” Her tiny whisper had sleep vanishing from my eyes. “Lynnie? What's wrong?” I asked softly, my eyes going over her form. She was still clad in her cute sleep pajama and butterfly socks. She had her hand rubbing one sleepy eyes and the other stared at me. “Daddy left.” She announced and my brows pinched. “what?” I sat up carefully with a soft groan. “To italy. I want to stay with you.” She spoke in gibberish and gave me her cute little pout. “Come up here.” I patted at my bed side and I helped her climb up. After we were well situated in bed. We both drifted back to sleep even though it was already six in the morning. We cuddled into each. Her head resting against my chest and my fingers threading through her hair softly. That was how we spent the next month. Every night we'd both bribe Mrs. Taylor into letti
