CHAPTER THREE

Leila followed the young man.

She was restless. Thoughts whirled in her head, questioning if she had done something wrong.

Panic thrilled her deepest psyche as she knocked at the office door.

"Come in."

David said huskily.

She quietly opened the door and walked in.

She was not always this weak.

She was determined she would not allow herself to be afraid of him.

If others were scared of him, she'd stand out. The least he could do to her was fire her, and she was prepared for that.

But why was her heart pounding hard against her ribs now?

Why?

She wanted it to seriously stop.

She looked down, and couldn't look into his eyes.

She had no idea why she felt she'd be trapped in those ocean eyes of his.

She was before the almighty CEO who's greatly feared by all.

David's eyes traced her body. He crossed his legs as he stared briefly at his expensive wristwatch.

The awkward silence was killing Leila. She felt the urge to look up at him but she could not.

Was he studying her or what?

Why wasn't he saying anything?

"I was told you're Leila."

He broke the silence.

She finally looked up at him.

Her heart throbbed when she met his gaze.

He had a perfectly chiseled face and dark wavy hair.

She felt shy and scared. What had come over her?

She nodded affirmatively.

"Come closer. Sit."

David gestured to her, never tearing his gaze away from her.

Leila was stunned.

She looked at the ergonomic chair and shifted her gaze back at him.

Her instinct told her it was unsafe to sit before him.

She appreciated the fact he was kind enough to offer her a seat but she was fine standing.

David pinched his eyebrows. He was annoyed already. He stared at his wristwatch again and furrowed his brows.

He gazed at her and faked a smile.

"Sit."

He intoned.

Leila was confused. She took a step forward at first.

He chuckled.

He was having fun watching her.

She silently and carefully took her seat making sure she made no sound.

She was closer to him now. His ocean eyes stared deeply into her brown eyes.

He grinned.

"I think I like you already."

Leila's eyes widened.

"You understand the rules. I'm sure we're getting along already."

Leila was amazed.

She wanted to smile but she remembered the rule. She kept a straight face.

She pursed her lips and nodded her head.

Her mouth opened to say something, but then she remembered the rule of not talking without permission.

She gasped instead.

"You know. I want to get to know you. Do you love fashion too?"

Leila was stunned. He wanted to know her.

She nodded her head affirmatively.

She lied.

She was not even fashionable.

David chuckled as she nodded.

He liked it as she had not spoken any word since she entered.

She was nothing like those rude secretaries he fired.

Leila was different. He would so much love her to work with him.

Leila met his gaze.

It felt like she was enchanted. She could not take her eyes off him.

Her eyes were glued to his, and his to hers.

It was as though they were alone in this world, and nothing mattered again at the moment.

David had no idea what was there in her eyes he was staring at.

"Do you care for coffee?"

He broke the silence.

Leila shook her head. She was amazed.

She wanted to talk. Why had he not given her permission to talk?

David ignored her.

He stood and went to make coffee for two.

He brought hers and placed it before her on the desk.

Leila bowed her head to show appreciation.

Did he just make coffee for her? Probably, he was not as bad as she thought.

"You can speak now."

He sipped at his coffee while gazing at her face.

Leila felt relieved.

"You have a kind heart. Thank you."

Leila appreciated him.

David kept staring at his wristwatch incessantly.

He began to arrange his desk.

"I have a meeting with my clients now."

"Is there anything I can do to help?"

Leila asked.

Before he could respond to her, Someone knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Adam and two men in decent black suits entered.

Adam was shocked when he saw a cup of instant coffee before Leila.

He could not believe his eyes.

Who made coffee for her?

"Leila. Please excuse us. I'll see you later."

David said while sorting out some things on his desk.

Adam joined him as he exchanged glances with Leila.

Leila was about to leave empty-handed when David called her back.

"Who's going to drink the coffee I made for you?"

Leila apologized and took it with her.

Adam was taken aback. David made coffee for his new secretary?

It's unbelievable!

Something must have happened between the two.

Leila placed the cup of coffee on her desk while she sat.

All eyes widened.

She was coming from the CEO's Office with a cup of coffee?

Leila had expected he'd be mean to her.

It was romantic of him to make coffee for her.

"Are you just coming from the CEO's Office?"

She looked up. It was Reg.

"He asked to see me."

She responded politely.

Reg glared at the coffee.

Leila knew she wanted to know about the coffee too.

"He made coffee for me."

He was not bad after all.

Reg chuckled and looked back at her coworkers watching them.

She shifted back her gaze to Leila.

"What?"

She could not believe her ears.

The CEO she knew could never stoop so low to make coffee for an ordinary employee.

An ordinary employee like Leila.

Reg was angry.

She was so sure something was wrong somewhere.

"It cannot be!"

What if something had happened between them?

Reg was curious.

She furiously glared at Leila. She hated her already.

She would not share her man with her or anybody.
