"Careful," Sylvester helped me to my feet. "You could've hurt yourself."

I steadied myself until I got a hold on my standing. "I'm sorry, it's these damned high heels. I'm not used to them."

"Maybe you should take them off and go for something more comfortable," Sylvester suggested, flashing me a smile. "I haven't seen you around here before."

"I'm Laura," I introduced myself a little awkwardly. "Reiner's wife."

He stepped toward me, invading my personal space. His scent of male, dry cedar, and leather seeped into my system, making me drunk.

Sylvester cocked his head, surprised. "Reiner's wife? Since when did that happened?"

"Today," I replied him.

Sylvester dug his hands in his pocket and chuckled. "That's a surprise. Reiner's never brought a girl home before. Usually, he fools around with women, then dump them the next day. So it's surprising, running into a woman who claims to be his wife."
