Lila's POV

My fingers were still on his sleeve.

The cufflink pressed into my thumb. Cobalt blue enamel inlaid in silver, cold and smooth. The same as the one sitting in my nightstand drawer. The one I'd taken from room 619.

Gemma grabbed my elbow and yanked me backward. "Are you insane?" Her voice was sharp and low. "You just threw yourself at the professor."

"I didn't—"

"You grabbed his arm. While drunk. In a bar. That's throwing."

I wasn't listening. I was staring at the cufflink. The bar light caught the enamel and threw back a glint of blue, and something in my chest clenched at the sight of it. My mouth opened and the words came out before I could think about whether they should.

"I have the matching one."

It hit the air wrong. Too loud for the distance, too raw for the context. But he heard it, because he turned, and for the first time since I'd walked over in my borrowed lace dress with cocktail courage in my veins, the Professor Aldrich looked at my face.

Not a glance. A look. His eyes moved from my mouth to my jawline to my hair, and I watched the recognition land. The slight narrowing of his eyes. His jaw setting harder. Up close, his cologne hit me. Warm and dark and familiar in a way that made my stomach flip.

He knew who I was. The wolfless student who couldn't hold a guard position. The one who sat in the back row of his combat hall and took notes while everyone else sparred.

The faint interest on his face vanished. His expression went flat. Professional. Closed.

"These cufflinks aren't exactly rare, Miss." His voice could have frosted glass. "Half the shops in the city carry this design. Go home. Next time you might not be this lucky."

He turned and walked into the crowd without looking back.

I stood there with my pulse hammering against my ribs. My roommate was tugging my arm, asking what cufflink, what matching one, what was I talking about. But all I could hear was my own heartbeat slowing down. The panic dissolving.

He wasn't the dom. Of course he wasn't. The BDSM community had hundreds of thousands of people. What were the odds that the man in room 619 was also the man who taught my worst subject? I'd been drunk and stupid and my brain had connected two dots that weren't even in the same picture.

I let Gemma steer me out the door. The night air hit my bare shoulders and I shivered so hard my teeth clicked.

"Let's go home," I said.

The next morning I stood in the combat hall in my training tank and leggings with the taste of a hangover still at the back of my throat. The professor was at the front, clipboard in hand, black shirt sleeves rolled to his forearms. No cufflinks today.

"Pop quiz," he said. "Defensive series. Three rounds."

I failed all three. My guard was half a second slow every time, my footwork tangled beneath me, and the gamma I was paired with put me on the mat twice. The second time, my hip hit hard enough that the pain shot all the way down my leg and I tasted copper where I'd bitten my tongue.

Professor Aldrich stopped beside me on his way past. Didn't crouch. Didn't lower his voice.

"Miss." The word carried across the hall. "If you have the energy for pole dancing, I suggest you redirect some of it toward your training. I'm beginning to question whether you're here to learn."

The hall went silent. Thirty students suddenly fascinated by their own shoelaces. My face burned from my ears to my collarbones.

"I was just blowing off steam after practice, sir."

He was already walking away.

After class, everyone filed out. I stayed. The hall emptied and the overhead lights dimmed to half-power on their timer. I ran the defensive series alone. Guard up. Pivot. Block. Reset. I ran it until my arms shook and sweat ran into my eyes. I ran it again. I ran it until muscle memory started doing what my brain couldn't.

My phone buzzed in my gym bag. Once. Twice. Three times.

I checked it during a water break. Three messages from Derek. Babe, I hurt myself at practice. Can you come wrap my knee? Then: Where are you? Then: Hello??

I stared at that screen for a long time. Three years of dropping everything whenever he called. Skipping lectures, leaving dinners, bringing ice packs and sports drinks, rearranging my entire schedule around his practices and his moods. Replying in under twenty seconds because that's what a good girlfriend did. Being the girl who always came when she was called and never asked for anything back.

I blocked his number. Deleted the thread. Put the phone back in my bag and went back to the mat.

Third Person POV

The football field was emptying at sunset. Players stretched near the bleachers, helmets off, grass stains drying on their knees.

Their captain leaned against the metal railing and checked his phone again. Three messages sent. Zero replies. He scrolled up and down. The screen sat blank.

"She didn't come?" One of the guys elbowed his shoulder pad.

"She's sulking." Derek shrugged. "She found out about the other night. She'll get over it."

That was the thing about her. She always got over it. Canceled dates, forgotten anniversaries, the time he'd left her waiting in the rain outside the stadium for forty minutes. She forgave everything and came back every time. She'd once skipped her favorite writing seminar just to bring him an umbrella.

But the sun went down, and his phone stayed quiet.

"Still nothing?" someone said.

He straightened up. "A thousand dollars. Each of you. Says she picks up in under a minute."

"You're on."

He smiled, pulled up her contact, and dialed.

Lila's POVI said yes.My knees still ached from the hospital floor. The bruises on my elbows had turned yellow-green overnight, and when I lifted my arms to pull on a sweater, the scrapes stung. None of that stopped me.The rational part of my brain screamed at me the entire time I was getting ready. This was reckless. This was a stranger from the internet with a reputation for being merciless. But I was a writer. A writer who'd only ever imagined submission had a ceiling. If I wanted to write it real, I needed to feel it.I put on the purple mask. The dom had said not to bring anything. No lingerie. No props. Just myself, on time. I pulled on jeans and a sweater and my worn canvas sneakers, looking exactly like what I was: a literature student heading somewhere she couldn't explain. The address was a villa on the hill above the academy. Wrought-iron gate. Gravel drive. Stone and glass perched on the ridge, larger than my entire dormitory. No lights on inside. The front door was unlo

Lila's POVI bit the hand holding my jaw.My teeth sank in hard enough to taste copper. The man howled and jerked backward, and in the second his grip loosened, I spat. Most of the liquid that had been forced past my lips hit the gravel. Some of it was already burning down my throat.I ran.My legs were shaking. My lungs screamed. I sprinted down the dark path with no destination except away — away from the amber eyes and the vial and the hands that wanted to mark me. Branches slashed my arms. My foot caught a root and I stumbled, caught myself, kept running."Get her!"Footsteps behind me. Fast. Wolf-fast.I opened my mouth to scream for help, but the cloth they'd stuffed in had scraped my throat raw. All that came out was a strangled rasp. The darkness was total. The dormitory lights were a distant glow. Then something massive hit the man closest to me.Not something. A wolf. Enormous, coal-black, broad through the shoulders, moving with a speed that made the air crack. The wolf cau

Derek went to the police station with his chin up and his voice carrying."My father will have me out in ten minutes," he told the officers. "You're wasting your time."I gave my statement in a side room with a female officer who took notes without expression. Yes, he'd grabbed me. Yes, there were witnesses. No, I didn't want to press additional charges — the bonfire harassment complaint was enough. When I stepped outside, a single text from Professor Aldrich waited on my screen. You're not expelled. Don't give me a reason to reconsider. It took me a moment to realize he was joking. Or as close to joking as he got.Thank you, I typed back. I hope I didn't cause you trouble. You can repay me by not failing the midterm.I pocketed the phone. Something warm and stupid spread through my chest. At the station, Derek was not having the quick exit he'd promised.I heard the details over the next few days, secondhand and third-hand, passed down from the football team to the campus security gu

  • My Dom Is my Alpha Professor   #Chapter 12: The Accusation

Lila's POVThe café went quiet.Derek crossed the floor in three strides. Students at nearby tables looked up from their laptops. A girl in the corner lowered her coffee cup.He didn't stop until I could smell the grass and sweat on his jersey. His jaw was clenched so tight the muscles in his neck stood out."So this is what you've been doing." His voice was low and ugly. "I thought you were busy training. Turns out you've been baking cakes for your professor."He grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the table. My chair scraped against the floor."Let go of me.""When did you start this?" His fingers dug into my bicep. He steered me toward the hallway, away from the staring crowd. "Was it before or after you dumped me? How long have you been sneaking around behind my back like a —""Don't finish that sentence."He finished it anyway. The word hit me like a slap.I looked at him. Really looked. The boy I'd loved for three years, brought coffee to every morning, skipped exams for. The

Lila's POVGemma was scrubbing mascara off my cheekbone with a damp cotton pad when my phone buzzed."Hold still." She tilted my chin toward the lamp. "You smeared everything when you bolted from the dance floor."I hadn't bolted. I'd walked. Briskly. With intention. She didn't need to know that the professor's eyes had bled crimson during the waltz, or that the pull at the base of my spine had been so violent I'd nearly tripped over a speaker cable. I could still feel his hand on my waist, the warmth of his palm seeping through borrowed silk. Some things were better locked away.My phone buzzed.I picked it up. A direct message from the forum app. A username I would have recognized from across a crowded screen. The dom.The same dom every submissive on the platform had bookmarked. The one who never reached out first.Same arrangement.Same hotel, 619.My pulse spiked. Thousands of women would have killed for this message. The most elusive dom on the platform, the man who never contact

  • My Dom Is my Alpha Professor   #Chapter 10: The Wolf

Lila's POVDerek was staring at my thigh. Not at me. At the mark. His eyebrows were drawn together and his nostrils were flared. He had never left that mark. He had never touched me hard enough to leave anything at all. In three years, he had barely touched me. So who had?I looked away from him before he could ask. That was when I felt it. A gaze heavier than my ex's, hotter, fixed on the exact same spot. Not curious. Intense. The place where his eyes landed burned.Professor Aldrich was looking at my thigh. His expression hadn't changed. The same flat composure he wore in every combat class. But his eyes were on the handprint and they were not flat. They were dark and focused and they stayed longer than they should have.My heart was beating too fast. I pulled the hem of my dress down and crossed my legs and didn't look at him again.Aldrich's POVPink. That was the first thing. The skin around the mark was pink, flushed from the heat of the fire, and the bruises sat in the center.
