LOGINThe number was unknown. She thought about picking up the call. She didn't want to wake Adrian up but he only turned around and mumbled in his sleep, never actually waking up. She said once, for clarity “Darling?” No response. She knew he was fast asleep so she got out of her bed and walked slowly to the bathroom, watching the call end and come in over and over.
She got to the bathroom and sat in the dry tub. She answered the phone and slowly raised it to her ear…nothing. The person on the other end said absolutely nothing. “Are you going to speak, or?” Seraphina spat out with disgust but still no response. She rolled her eyes and ended the call. It may have been one of the endless men who find her number on the internet because of her short career in modelling. As soon as she got out of the tub RING! RING! RING! Her ringtone viciously tore the air making her wince. She stared at her phone, her eyes glowing with rage and hate for this unknown person. She picked up again, still silent and she exploded. “If you ever call this number again, I'll find you and end you!” and she hung up, almost throwing her phone out of the window. She walked back into the room only to hear Adrian's voice “I thought we fell asleep together” he rolled a bit, stretching his long veiny arms. She laughed, forgetting the rage she had felt a few minutes back as she jumped into his arms. He gave her a big squeeze and a head kiss. Then she rolled to her side of the bed. “We'll be leaving for work soon, Adrian” he nodded as he trailed kisses down her thighs, making her laugh and digging her fingers into his hair. “Are you sure you actually love me?” He stared at her quickly and she stared deep into his eyes that had once held emotions but now's just empty…overshadowed by the silly act he plays. She knew it was fake but if she didn't know who she was married to, she'd believe his lies. He sighed and climbed above her, his hair dropping down his face, his blue eyes piercing hers “I do love you sweetie, more than the air I breathe” “Sure” “Seraphina, what do you mean sure?” He snapped “do you not love me?” She didn't respond. She just turned around and whispered “Goodnight Adrian, I'm very tired” “Oh! I see…Goodnight Sera” he turned his back at her and fell asleep. She hadn't gone to bed. She stared in horror at her phone and at a text she had received from the same unknown number. It was a picture of Adrian holding a slim woman with long, dark silky hair. His eyes looked at her like she'd break and his hands held her like she'd vanish any moment. That was how Adrian used to look at Seraphina…with love and something that resembled greed. Like he didn't want the world looking at what was his…now that gaze belonged to another. The message under was simple: “This is only the beginning.” Seraphina wasn't having it. She threw her phone against the wall and ran down the stairs to the couch. She didn't know what to do so she wandered around the room looking for her phone before she realized she threw it out the window and that made her laugh a bit. She picked up her work phone and calmed the only person that made things make sense even when it didn't “Hi big sis…” “Why are you up?” She said lazily as if stretching her words to annoy Seraphina on purpose. “Adrian is cheating” “Stop these expensive pranks girl!” “I'm not. I saw pictures….” She confessed “What pictures?” The call fell quiet, Stephanie coughed “I'll be there in 15. I'll bring coffee” “Steph…wait” Seraphina pleaded but Stephanie ignored. “No Sera, I won't wait. See you soon.” The sound of the call ending slammed into her eardrums like a friendly reminder that her once happy and loyal man only existed in the pictures now. “Seraphina?” Adrian's voice, now deeper and thicker, calls out to her from the stairs “who was that?” And Seraphina looked in shock rather than responding. Her mouth opened to speak but nothing came out. Adrian repeated himself again, but this time…like some kind of warning “Sweetie, who was that?”The sun hit differently the moment Seraphina stepped out of the building, not warm or comforting, just hot. Like it burnt just her. She paused beside her car, her fingers tightening around her keys and for a moment, she thought through her life choices. For a moment, she just stood there, breathing in slowly like she had just run a dangerous marathon. Then she reached for her phone, expecting a hundred calls from her stalker but her heart skipped, no missed calls, no messages. Nothing.“Had he suddenly gotten tired?” She laughed under her breath but her brows furrowed…none of this seemed normal. For the past few days, her phone had been a war zone. Endless calls, texts and silence from the other end. That eerie, suffocating silence that made her skin crawl, that she had learnt to live with and now…nothing?“...Weird,” she mumbled , barely higher than a whisper and for a split second, she almost felt relief...almost.Something about it just didn’t sit right. Still, she shook it off and
On the other hand, Seraphina was going through hell with her unknown stalker. Calls and texts rushed in more than ever. She'd answer, scream at them, they'll stay silent until she hangs up. At some point, she turned off her phone. She walked around her new house and checked it out. It was beautiful. Plain white and perfectly lit. The chandelier was silver and gold, the walls had marbles, the bathroom had her name encrusted with bronze. Everything in this house screamed her and she loved it but the only problem was, her husband wasn't in it.She sat on her stairs and began bawling her eyes out. The weight of everything had finally hit and she was not taking it well. Her meal went cold, the water kept running in the kitchen and bathroom and she left the oven on. She kept thinking about Adrian. She wanted to call and ask how he's doing, if he had eaten and how he's coping with the separation but when she picked up her phone, she received a text from the unknown number. It was an image ta
The week came as quickly as Adrian suggested it. Initially, he still pretended to love her. Getting her gifts, changing her phone, coming home early to eat dinner but after 3 days a version of Adrian she had never seen emerged. He didn't call or eat, he came back late and was always on call with Vanessa. He made it obvious and Seraphina accepted the fate of their once beautiful marriage before the week ended. Seraphina called Stephanie to get a suitable place for her to move in and Steph screamed from the phone“Has he responded? Why're you getting a place now?”“I know what he'll say. So I won't wait to get heartbroken” Seraphina said before landing a gut-retching cough “... I'll send the money now”“Hmm…okay. I'll get a place that suits you”“Thank you, Steph. I wonder what I'll do without you”“Nothing, Sera. You'll do nothing without me.” Before Seraphina could respond, Stephanie hung up the call…leaving Seraphina with the echoes of her laughter. Stephanie helped her with sanity i
The meeting ended shortly and she picked up her bags to leave the office. Before she stepped out of the building, she stopped by the secretary to warn her. “If that lady comes in here again and you don't call security to lock her up, you'll lose your job. Got it?The secretary nodded like her life depended on it, maybe because it did.The drive home was quiet…too quiet. Like the calm before a terrible storm but she was ready. Her ringtone tore the peace and she glared at the phone.“Darling.”She answered “Sera Darling, I have another meeting…so I will be home late” he said hurriedly.“I do not care if you have a surgery and you are the surgeon or you're going for your burial…” she hissed “I want you home by the time I'm there.” She ended the call. After that tone in her voice, he knew better than to come late. She made a stop at her sister's office to tell her what happened and she almost exploded.“What do you mean that ugly woman is pregnant!” “Calm down, Steph. I'm going home to
Seraphina's mind raced, her heart pounded and her breath hitched. She didn't know why she felt so much fear rather than just responding to him and he noticed. He rushed down the stairs and held her “what's going on with you?” Worry, painting his face. Seraphina had started lookingpale, compared to when she made dinner. Her phone had dropped and he looked to see but it was just her sister.“You panicked because of Steph? Is she coming over” he asked out of genuine worry and Sera nodded weakly. Adrian let out a loud sigh as he put her on the couch and knelt in front of her “Darling, Stephanie is family…she can come whenever” he raised his hands to rub her cheeks “okay, baby?” She didn't respond. Tears ran down her cheeks quickly and it made Adrian scared. He kept asking what the problem was but she laid there crying while her mind and heart continued racing. When she eventually spoke, her voice was thinner than the usual melodic sounds she let out“I should be asking you…you changed
