YEARS AGO.

Stephanie's face went pale immediately. She stared at the screen for so long that Seraphina almost snatched the phone out of her hands.

"Sera?"

"What? What does it say?"

Stephanie turned the phone slowly, her expression shifting from confusion to something else.

"It's a message…from Adrian." Seraphina froze.

"That's his number?"

"No." Stephanie shook her head, her voice dropping. "That's what's scary…it's the unknown number but the message says it's from him."

She handed the phone over like it might bite her or shock.

Seraphina's hands trembled as she took it and the screen glowed in the dim light.

There, beneath the photo of Adrian walking away, was a second message and this one had no image, just words.

"He's leaving you again. But I won't. I never did."

And then, beneath it was,

"Check the inside of your closet. Top shelf, left corner."

Seraphina's breathing stopped.

"No," she whispered, the words were barely audible. "No. No. No." Stephanie grabbed her arm.

"What? What does it say?"

But Seraphina was already moving. She walked toward her bedroom like a woman in a trance, her steps heavy and very deliberate. Stephanie followed close behind, muttering prayers under her breath that didn't sound very prayer-like.

"Please let it be nothing. Please let it be nothing. God I'll stop cussing, I swear—"

The bedroom door creaked open and the room was still a mess from their earlier destruction. The broken mirror glass glittered across the bathroom floor, and pieces of shattered cameras littered the hallway.

Seraphina walked to the closet and her hand hovered over the handle.

"Babe," Stephanie called out, her voice tight. "Maybe we should wait for the police…or at least for Adrian to—"

"Steph."

"—come back, or maybe we call a priest, or an exorcist, or literally anyone with a gun—"

"STEPH." Seraphina turned, her eyes blazing. "Shut. The. Fuck. Up."

Stephanie's mouth snapped shut and she nodded. Seraphina pulled open the closet door and the top shelf stared back at her, ordinary and unassuming.

Clothes folded neatly, an old handbag she never used anymore. Nothing unusual…nothing threatening.

She almost sighed with relief, then her eyes caught it. A small white box tucked behind the handbag, almost invisible unless you were looking for it.

Her heart stuttered.

"No..." Her fingers trembled as she reached for it. “Fuck no…”

"Sera, don't—" But she already had it.

The box was light.

Plain white, no markings, no stamps. Her hands shook so badly she almost dropped it twice before she finally pried the lid open.

Inside was a single item…a simple photograph.

Old and slightly faded, with curled edges that spoke of years. Seraphina stared at it for a long moment, her brain refusing to process what she was seeing. Then recognition hit her like a freight train.

It was her.

High school.

Standing in front of the gymnasium, laughing at something off-camera. Her hair was longer then, wilder. She wore a mismatched uniform and a smile she hadn't worn in years.

And in the corner of the photo, barely visible, was a handwritten note in the same elegant script she'd seen on her mirror.

"You always looked better when you weren't trying."

Her blood turned to ice.

"Stephanie..." Her voice cracked. "Stephanie…look at this."

Her sister rushed over and peered at the photo and the color drained from her face…her grey eyes blurring.

"Oh, hell no. That's—" Stephanie's voice went up an octave. "That's from high school… from years ago."

"I know."

"How does he have this?"

"I don't know!"

"How does he have pictures from—" Stephanie grabbed the photo and examined it more closely. "Wait. Wait. Look!”

She pointed at the background. A figure stood behind Seraphina, partially blurred, watching her from across the courtyard. A teenage boy in a dark hoodie, his face half-hidden.

Seraphina squinted.

“The fuck is that?"

"I don't know, but he was staring at you." Stephanie's voice was barely a whisper. "He's…watching you. Even then…like even before everything."

The realization hit Seraphina like a physical blow. He'd been watching her for years. Not months or weeks.

Goddamn years.

Her legs buckled and she sat down hard on the floor, the photo clutched against her chest. Stephanie lowered herself beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

"Babe.”

“Hmm?”

“Talk to me."

"I don't know him," Seraphina whispered. "I don't know who that is. I've never seen that face before."

But even as she said it, something nagged at the back of her mind. A flicker of memory…a face in the crowd? A boy who always seemed to be there, just on the edge of her vision.

She'd always thought she was imagining it but she wasn't.

Her phone buzzed again.

They both stared at it like it was a snake coiled on the floor… either of them moved.

BUZZ.

"Don't check it," Stephanie said firmly.

BUZZ!

"Seriously. Don't."

BUZZ!!

"Ignore it."

BUZZ!!!

"It's just gonna be more creepy—"

BUZZ!!!

"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD," Stephanie screamed, grabbing the phone herself. "I'M GONNA—" and she froze mid-sentence, her eyes locked on the screen.

"What?" Seraphina asked, her hands shakey. "What does it say?"

Stephanie looked up slowly, her face unreadable.

"It's from Adrian…he real Adrian. Like, his actual number." Seraphina blinked.

"What?"

"He says..." Stephanie swallowed hard. "He says they found cameras in his penthouse. Nine of them…and a diary." She paused. "The diary has your name written all over it.” She looked up, “like fuckin cover to cover."

Seraphina's heart stopped.

"And he says..." Stephanie's voice dropped to barely above a whisper. "He says the handwriting matches one of his business associates. Well someone he's worked with for years."

"Who?"

Stephanie met her eyes now.

"Marcus Webb."

The hallway outside the station was cold.Seraphina stood against the wall, her arms wrapped around herself. Stephanie was beside her, rubbing her back in slow circles."I'm fine," Seraphina said, her voice hollow."Girl! You're not fine.""I'm fine.""Sera—""I said I'm fine!" She pulled away, her eyes blazing. Then just as quickly, the fire died. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just—""I know." Stephanie pulled her into a hug. "I know, baby. I know."Seraphina buried her face in her sister's shoulder."He's been watching me my whole life," she whispered. "Every moment. I have no secrets. Every—" Her voice broke. "I never had any privacy, I never had any peace. He was always there…always."Stephanie held her tighter. "We'll find him. We'll find him and we'll make him pay.""How?" Seraphina pulled back, her eyes red. "He's not even real, he's a ghost. He has no name, no face, no—" She stopped…her expression shifted. "No. No, wait.""What?""He has a face." Seraphina's voice was urgent now.

The police station smelled like stale coffee and desperation. And Adrian hated every second of it. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, making everything have that weak yellow glow that made everyone look like they hadn't slept in days. Which, to be fair…none of them had.Seraphina sat beside him, her knee bouncing nervously beneath the table. Stephanie was on her other side, arms crossed, glaring at anyone who dared look at them for too long. The three of them had been waiting for almost two hours."I need coffee," Stephanie announced, standing abruptly. "Before you talk Adrian, I want real coffee not that burnt garbage they're serving in the break room.""Sit down," Adrian said through gritted teeth."I'll be right back.""Stephanie—""I'm getting coffee!" She stormed off before anyone could stop her. Seraphina exhaled slowly. “She's going to start a fight with someone.""Probably.""Should we stop her?"Adrian glanced at the doorway where Stephanie had disappeared. "No…let her.

The photograph burned into Adrian's retinas like a brand.Seraphina, sleep…unaware and in the background…barely visible through the window, a shadow on the fire escape. Just standing, watching…waiting. His phone slipped from his fingers and clattered against the marble floor but he didn't even notice."Fuck." He whispered. “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!”They kept leaving his mouth before he could stop them. Then he was moving, grabbing his keys, his jacket, anything within reach. His hands were shaking. He couldn't remember the last time his hands shook…but they did tonight. The drive was a blur.Red lights meant nothing, speed limits meant nothing and nothing mattered except getting to her…getting to her before—“Don't think about it. Don't think about what happens if you're too late.” he yelled to himself in the car. He called her phone and it went straight to voicemail. He called Stephanie. It rang. And rang. And rang.“Come on. Come on. Pick up—”But nothing. He threw his phone into

  • My Ex Husband Wants Me Back    HIS TURN

He was unremarkable in every way. Average height, average build, average face. He wore a simple suit and an apologetic expression. The kind of man you'd pass on the street without ever noticing. But Adrian noticed him now…he couldn't help it."Mr. Vale," Marcus said, his voice calm and professional. "I apologize for the interruption. I just had a few questions about the quarterly projections."Vanessa stared at Marcus like she'd seen a ghost and Adrian's eyes narrowed. "We're in the middle of something.""Of course." Marcus nodded pleasantly, his gaze sliding to Vanessa. "I can wait."For a long moment, nobody moved. Then Vanessa laughed again…a hollow, broken sound. She looked at Adrian, then at Marcus, something unreadable flickering across her face."You think you're so clever," she said, her voice hoarse. "Both of you! But you have no idea what's coming." She turned and walked toward the door, pausing beside Marcus in the doorway."He'll destroy you too," she whispered, just loud

The words landed like a slap. Vanessa's face was drained of color. "That's ridiculous! Of course I—""You loved what I could give you. The power, the status, the access." Adrian stood slowly, his voice still calm…still measured. "But me? The actual man? You couldn't care less.""That's not—""Don't lie to me." His voice sharpened, as his eyes pierced through her. "I've watched you for months, Vanessa. Every conversation, every touch, every whispered ‘I love you’ was calculated.”“Shut up.”“I don't think you're not capable of loving anyone."Vanessa's mask cracked. Her eyes glowed with something that might have been tears or might have been pure rage."That's not true," she whispered, but her voice lacked conviction. "I did love you. I DO love you.""No," Adrian said simply. "You don't."“Why're you trying to project?!”He walked around the desk, slow and deliberate, until he stood directly in front of her. He was close enough to see the tiny muscle twitching in her jaw…close enough t

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, and Adrian didn't bother to look up from his laptop. He knew who it was before she even stepped into the room. The click of her heels was too deliberate, too sharp…and now too annoying. The perfume that followed her everywhere was choking and familiar. He'd grown to hate the scent over the past few weeks. It never smelled like jasmine and honey anymore, it smelled like obsession and manipulation."Adrian." He didn't respond."I said—" he cut her off, still not looking away from his laptop."I heard you."Vanessa appeared in his peripheral vision, her silhouette sharp against the floor-to-ceiling windows behind his desk. She was dressed immaculately, as always, her blonde hair perfectly curled and her makeup flawless. But there was something wrong beneath the polish. Something angry. And Adrian felt nothing now."I need to talk to you," she said, her voice tight."I'm busy." his voice falt and final."It’s about Seraphina." His fingers pa

Seraphina stared at the note for so long that the words stopped looking real to her. By the time morning arrived, Stephanie had officially had enough. Her eyes were still swollen and her head still hurts, but she made up her mind that she was done. "No. Absolutely not." She pointed dramatically at Seraphina from across the breakfast island she had made while holding a mug of cof

Neither of them had bothered turning anyth
