Chapter 5

Liana, on the other hand, was frustrated with Jack's insistence that she go to the hospital, he wanted her to go for a check"up, he tried to beg, to intimidate, but it was all in vain, she didn't want to spend what little money the family still had.

"Liana, if you continue to refuse to go to the hospital, I will call Edward to ask for the two million. I know that your reluctance comes from your refusal to increase our financial burden so that the check will be useful," Jack threatened, and Liana couldn't help but laugh.

"All right, you win, I'll go to the hospital, but on one condition," she said, getting out of bed and surrendering to her younger cousin.

" Perfect, so, tell me, what is your condition? " Jack asked, happy with his cousin's agreement.

" If I do all the tests and they say I'm fine, you'll stop bothering me if I want to stay at home, because I hate the smell of hospital!”

"All right, I'll agree to that! " Jack nodded hastily, after all, his immediate mission was to take his sister to the hospital, and everything that came after that could wait. Jack organized his things and in a hurry, accompanied Liana to the hospital.

Liana returned to the hospital from which she escaped yesterday, the doctors and nurses recognized her and scolded her without even giving her a chance to respond, and she just accepted it quietly with a smile on her face.

After several tests, Liana was found to be fine, but the doctor wanted her to stay in the hospital for a few days to observe her recovery and verify that there were no sequelae. But, Liana knew that a prolonged stay in such a prestigious hospital would make a giant hole in her wallet, and although she wouldn't admit it out loud, she planned to go home today, and not that she didn't want to take care of her health, but she simply didn't want to burden her uncle's family.

She was between a cross and a sword, because she knew she had to be physically healthy before she could go out and work. However, lying in the hospital with the IV being fed into her arms, she was overcome with guilt and anger.

She could have handled it better if she hadn't regained her memories, but now that she had regained them, she was furious with herself for being so useless.

How she wished she could take off the drip feed and start looking for work instantly, and even though the saying goes that money isn't everything, there are certainly many things you can't do without money. Liana, at this point, felt that the restrictions she was having was definitely due to the lack of money in her life, but she would not give in and take the White family's money.

Jack was beside her, also struggling to earn some money, even though he was in the hospital, he had been typing on his laptop for more than four hours straight.

" What do you do so much on the computer? " Liana asked curiously, making Jack smile without taking his eyes off the screen.

"I do some work on the side to earn money, and a professor asked me to help him write a software program, and when I finish, he will pay me 300 dollars.", Jack explained, making Liana's eyes twinkle.

" So, you get paid as soon as you finish? " she asked. " On the spot?”

" Yes, that's right. " Jack replied. " Actually, this professor owns a technology company, so, since he knows my financial situation, he always pays me the same day I finish the job. " he explained. " He even wanted to offer me another project, and would pay me 2,000 thousand dollars, but it is very difficult to do, it would take me about two days, and he needs it for today. I'm even sending a message that I can't do it.”

" And what is this $2,000 job about? " Liana asked curiously, which left Jack surprised, he had no idea why his sister would suddenly be curious about a project he would reject, but he patiently explained.

"It's for coding a mini-game. I've done something like this before, but it took me four days, and my boss wanted it done in two days, so I'm sure I won't be able to finish it in time.”

" Can I have a look? " Liana asked as she sat up in bed, and Jack quickly put away his notebook to stop her.

" Sister, please sit still, you'll end up taking the serum.”

" You worry too much, Jack! Just let me see what kind of mini game you're playing. " Liana asked, smiling.

Jack was Uncle Peter's only child, so after he also adopted Liana, she automatically became the older sister he always wanted, but never had.

Maybe it was the power that older siblings had over their younger ones, but for some reason, Jack was always ready to comply with Liana's requests. And she never coerced him or made him do things he didn't want to do, but he still complied with her requests.

" This is the one. " Jack said, turning the laptop screen to Liana. " But, why do you want to see this? " He asked as his sister moved the cursor and clicked a few buttons, and realized that the game was really simple.

" Interesting, and can I borrow your notebook for an hour? " she asked, staring at him, and Jack deduced that she wanted the notebook to play, since she was bored.

" Lilih, you should take this time to rest, I know it's boring here in the hospital, but why don't you try to sleep? Playing is not good for your recovery ... " And Liana cut her brother off, she didn't want to play, in fact, she was interested in doing the work he would reject.

" As I said now, I'll return it in an hour. I saw some books in your bag, that will keep you entertained in the meantime. " She spoke in a tone that admitted no argument, and Jack obediently obeyed, after all, he didn't know how to say no to her.

Jack picked up a programming book and gave worried advice. "I'll only let you play for an hour, okay? If you don't return my notebook after that, I won't let you play with it next time," and Liana just ignored her younger brother and stared at the screen while her fingers warmed slightly with the sensations she was already familiar with. Liana's thoughts wavered as she looked at the codes that appeared on the screen.

It had been years since she had worked with these codes, and she had forgotten the knowledge that was once imprinted in her mind.

There was still a barrier between her and those piles of codes, although she should have recovered her memory.

It seemed surreal even after she finished writing a line of code. She couldn't help but wonder if the code she wrote was nothing more than a meaningless line.

Yet her fingers kept working as if they were moving on their own, surviving in the motor memory that was engraved in her brain. Things became clearer as more complete codes began to appear on the screen.

Her confidence grew as time passed until her fingers danced rapidly over the keyboard, and she was more lost than ever!

Jack was curious to know what his sister was doing, so he slowly walked over and looked at the computer screen, and saw several lines of code keep appearing on the screen, and he almost fell over sitting on the floor in shock. How could this be? Since when did his sister learn to code and not only that, how was she so good at it‽

Jack rubbed his eyes and examined it more closely to make sure she wasn't typing in random numbers, and no, he wasn't imagining things, in fact, she was actually writing that mini game he intended to reject.

She didn't stop to think, consult books or even check for errors, she just kept typing with a speed that he could barely keep up with, which surprised and amazed him at the same time, he had no idea that she was so good at programming.

Jack felt like asking where she had learned to do this, but absolute concentration on his work prevented him from doing so. He didn't want to break her focus, so he stood silently beside her bed, watching her work.
