DEARON

My eyes opened, and I jerked up to sit. My heart thundered in my chest, and my body was heavily coated with cold sweat. I heard her scream—Kaira's scream. The sound still echoed in my head, crashing in painful waves.

My claws came out, my wolf growling inside me, ready to tear apart the one who hurt her. I sprang to my feet and rushed out of the tent, greedily sucking in the cold night's air. The full moon was at its peak. I could almost see the silver bastard's cruel smile. It mocked me. It mocked my powerlessness.

“Fuck!” I growled, grabbing the first rock I could find and throwing it as high as I could.

“Can't sleep?” Torin's voice sounded behind me.

I turned around and saw a tension similar to my own clenching his every muscle. I drew a breath, forcing it through the tightness in my chest. “I had a nightmare,” I told him. “I saw Kaira… She was in pain, and I couldn't save her.”

Torin held my stare, a soft smile curving his lips. “You've changed.” He stepped closer, studying

  • My Fated Enemy   Fight Beside Him

KAIRAMy heart nearly burst out of my chest as I watched Dearon sway on his feet. He was still in his wolf form, severely bleeding. I told myself he would heal, soothing the ache in my chest. He had done the impossible—we both had achieved the impossible. He had defeated Darcio, who had been fueled with magic. I had shattered Heletria's spell and the Moon Tear along with it. Now, Darcio and Heletria were gone. But the growls and snarls coming from behind me clearly meant that this fight was far from over…Rafe materialized beside me, grabbing my hand and pulling me back to the Korendorr's side of the clearing. I almost whimpered in joy then. Torin and Nazo leaped to the front, shielding me as Moon Shadow Pack's warriors formed a line.Torin looked over his shoulder, scanning me from head to toe. His eyes briefly stopped at the claw marks on my cheek, the unhealed wound left by Darcio, and a blend of pain and anger sharpened his features. Finally, he drew a deep breath and asked, “Can

  • My Fated Enemy   The Wicked Power

DEARONI knelt on the ground, restrained by a power I could hardly comprehend. I struggled, yanking the invisible ropes as I watched Darcio prowl toward Kaira. Her beautiful green eyes shone with a thick layer of tears. They were no longer lifeless; they burned fiercely. She sucked in a sharp breath as the mark on her neck faded. An overpowering relief flooded my body. She wasn't his. She didn't belong to him…Darcio snapped his fingers, and two of his warriors grabbed Kaira's arms, forcing her to her knees. Another rogue tossed him a pair of linen pants. Unhurriedly, he dressed while Kaira struggled to free herself from the warriors' grip. “Remember what I told you about disobedience?” Darcio purred, leaning over her.She screamed as he slapped her, dragging his claws across her cheek. Blood coated nearly half of her face, but her eyes still burned, her lips peeled back in a snarl. My wolf spirit roared inside me. I would tear him into fucking shreds! I would skin him alive! A low gr

  • My Fated Enemy   Numb

KAIRAI had drifted through the void until it devoured my thoughts, will, and senses. And when I woke up, I found myself trapped inside my body with no control over it. It was the cruelest prison anyone could have locked me in. I tried to scream, but I had no voice. I tried to escape, but my muscles didn't budge. What that sick fucker hadn't taken from me was my ability to feel.Falling into an oblivion after Darcio had marked me had been a blessing. I had learned that as soon as I'd woken up naked in his bed. I'd been alone. He had left me there. I had wanted to scream, cry, rub his scent off my skin, but then all I could do was lie there, motionless. Then Heletria had appeared. Her words had helped me keep my sanity. “He didn't touch you,” she had said. “I used magic and tricked him into believing he did. I waited until he made you mark him and cast a spell, temporarily taking over his mind. I could only protect you this way, but now you're on your own.”I'd cried inwardly then. I'd

  • My Fated Enemy   The Ceremony

KAIRAI inhaled slowly and closed my eyes. The buzzing wall of light appeared in an instant. I could feel Heletria's black smoke a few heartbeats before it began attacking my light. I enhanced my shield, placed another layer of light, made it shine brighter, made it burn. A hissing sound came as if the black smoke were a living creature, and my light was searing its tendrils. I clenched my teeth, fueling my shield with every ounce of strength I could muster…The smoke disappeared.I opened my eyes, and a bright smile stretched across my lips. In front of me, Heletria smirked and nodded. “That was much better. You're making progress.”My smile widened for a second, but then I remembered what it'd felt like when Darcio's power had overwhelmed me. My smile faded. “But it's still not enough, is it?” I looked at the witch. “I can barely withstand what you're throwing at me without the power of the crystal, and when Darcio uses the Moon Tear—”“You need to find the strength to defeat him… e

  • My Fated Enemy   Impossible Choice

I'd decided it would be safer to move the rest of our conversation to the war tent. I would have gladly excluded Morvan, but unfortunately, he was the only member of the council to represent it. I'd made a mental note to always take either Angela, Hiro, or Efrain with us in the future…Saura and her two apprentices sat on one side of the table. The rest of us eyed them with caution. My head buzzed with questions, all rushing to the tip of my tongue, waiting to be voiced. My heart hammered, and the restlessness within me grew. Kaira was in Darcio's hands. He had an army and a powerful witch on his side, while Kaira—No. I couldn't let myself think of all the possibilities. My hands curled into tight balls, my claws coming out, cutting the skin of my palms. I fixed my eyes on Saura, struggling to put my thoughts in order. Finally, I chose to start with the simplest question. “How did you get here? I thought that my father banished you from Korendorr.”Sadness gleamed in her dark eyes. “
