Chapter 3

Author: Insomniac Moon
With this new development, I had thoroughly seen through Luna's hypocrisy and finally come to terms with the fact that my genuine feelings had been for naught.

Ignoring Luna's offer to take me home, I hailed a cab instead.

The moment I stepped through the front door, I spotted Luna's parents and my father sitting on the couch.

Naturally, they disapproved of the sudden cancellation of the wedding. My father, not daring to offend the Sandersons, could only shoot me a warning look, clearly wanting me to apologize.

"Calvin is still young and rather impulsive. Don't you worry, Mr. and Mrs. Sanderson. Since this marriage has already been decided on, we certainly won't cancel it."

"No," I interrupted him. Then, turning toward Luna's parents, I went on, "Mr. and Mrs. Sanderson, I've already broken up with Luna."

"Shut up!" my father roared as he took off his belt and stalked toward me. "Are you still not done with your nonsense? Seems like I need to teach you a harsh lesson today!"

He raised his belt high, ready to bring it down on me, but right before the belt struck me, Luna suddenly rushed into the house and threw herself in front of me protectively, not even hesitating.

The leather belt bit into her back, and I heard her cry out in pain as her arms tightened around me.

A while later, she slowly released me, her eyes overflowing with nothing but gentleness.

"It's good that you're alright."

She took my hand, but when she turned, the motion tugged at the wound on her back, causing her to gasp.

"Mr. Tapper, please don't blame Calvin. This was my fault. I made a mistake and upset him, so him wanting to break up with me is only what I deserve."

At her words, the guilt and shame on Dad's face deepened. "Luna, stop defending that punk. I know that you're a good woman and way out of Calvin's league."

Everyone thought that Luna loved me so much that she would even be willing to die for me. It was to the point that even I sometimes thought that that was the truth.

After that, I brought Luna upstairs to tend to her wound. However, the moment we were in our room, I coldly pulled away from her.

"Aren't you tired of constantly putting on this act?"

"Calvin, our wedding is in five days. You spent so much time and effort on preparing for it, so can you really bear to cancel it now? I guarantee that you'll be the happiest man in this world after the wedding."

I stared into her doe eyes and felt nothing but a creeping coldness go through my body.

Not once did she ever bring up her intimate actions with Felix in the hospital as she proclaimed her love for me again and again.

To outsiders, she played the part of the lovestruck fool who couldn't bear to part with me, making everyone think that I was ungrateful for not knowing just how lucky I was.

Only I knew that the wedding everyone was looking forward to was nothing but a front to herald my end.

Still, I had never been the sort of person who left their fate in another's hands.

I didn't hesitate to call my superior.

"I'm willing to join the overseas project that you mentioned before, the one that would last five years."

Back then, I had rejected the offer to go overseas because I had been thinking about our honeymoon, but now it seemed like I didn't need to worry about that anymore.

The day I finished my preparations to go overseas, Felix sought me out.

He hysterically demanded why I was so insistent on targeting him. "If it weren't for you clinging to Selina, why would she have delayed the wedding and even refused to be intimate with me anymore? Calvin Yangley, do you even know what shame is?"

It was only then I learned that I hadn't seen hide nor hair of Luna the past two days because she had gone off to spend time with Felix.

They seized the opportunity while Selina was out of the country on a business trip to do everything couples would do, even boldly having sex in Selina's home.

Hence, when Selina returned home with a thoughtfully prepared gift, hoping to surprise Felix, what greeted her was the sight of Luna and him sleeping together under the same covers.

Felix claimed that he had had a bit too much to drink, which, when combined with his blindness, resulted in him mistaking Luna for Selina.

However, no matter how blind one was, it was impossible that one wouldn't be able to tell the difference in their fiancee's voice or habits.

At last, Selina seemed to remember the intimate photos on my side Instagram account and how I had so confidently told her to get them checked for authenticity.

Hence, after telling Felix that she wanted to delay the wedding, she had left.

During my university years, I was the most outstanding student my advisor ever had. However, later on, I poured my whole heart and soul into my relationship with Selina. My only thought had been to marry her as soon as possible. Hence, I had rejected my advisor's suggestion that I stay on to continue my research. Now, reality had proven that there was nothing but regret if one didn't listen to their elders.I had gone the long way around and wasted so much time, only to end up back where I had started. My advisor seemed to notice the melancholy darkening my features. She sighed and stopped asking questions."There's no need to rush into the research right away. Why don't you spend the next few days going around Ferne first? Have a look around, get a feel for the local customs and culture. You only need to officially report to the lab next week."I nodded and headed straight for my hotel. For the next two days, I checked out the various places near my hotel. My originally depresse

Luna snapped her head up in disbelief. She clearly hadn't expected that Felix would push all the blame onto her just to prove his own innocence.Selina happened to arrive just as Luna scoffed and slammed a hand on the table, standing up to yell, "You used me? Felix Lont, you were the one who purposely seduced me back then and even hinted at me a few times to transplant Calvin's eyes into you!"For your sake, I didn't mind sacrificing my happiness to marry him, yet now that things have fallen apart, you're actually shoving all the blame onto me?""What did you say?"Selina stood rooted to the spot, dumbfounded at what she had heard. On her way here, she had already learned what had happened at the wedding. Someone had recorded the videos that had been playing on the screen and uploaded them to the internet, so she had come here precisely to confront Felix.Felix went deathly pale, and with him unable to see a thing, he felt the cold darkness around him even more clearly now. The moment the emcee failed to find me, he immediately informed Luna.Luna, perhaps worried that I had gone back on my word at the last minute and had gone off to cause trouble for Felix, purposely called the hospital. Only once she had confirmed that everything was still going according to plan did she breathe a sigh of relief. However, in the next second, there was an uproar coming from the event hall. She hurried over as quickly as she could, only to see the large screen playing a video of her and Felix embracing and kissing each other in the hospital.By this time, almost all of the guests had arrived and taken their seats. Besides that, the Sanderson family was considered one of the most influential and well-known families in the entire city, so a lot of the guests invited today were from the upper echelons of society.Hence, when they saw the contents of the video, whispers spread through the hall. Everyone cast Luna strange looks. "What's going on? Hurry up and stop that

Unable to find Selina, Felix could only take his anger out on me.I caught the fist he threw at my face, saying, "You were the one who did something wrong. What does it have to do with me?"He bellowed angrily, "It's because you won't stop seducing Selina, you bastard! You're the one who stole my blissful life from me!"Furrowing my brow, I pushed him away from me.Even though I hadn't used much force, Felix stumbled back and crashed into the table behind him as though I had shoved him with all my strength. At the same time, Selina and Luna rushed over, with Luna instantly accusing me angrily, "Calvin Yangley, Felix is blind! How could you pick on him like that?"Selina carefully helped Felix to his feet before shooting me a grim look."Calvin Yangley, you truly won't stop at anything to break me and Felix up, will you? You were even crazy enough to drug your own fiancee so that you could frame him and ruin his reputation!"I was thoroughly stumped by her words. "What did you s
