10. Threat

"Emily, I need to talk to you...in private," he emphasized, his tone serious and urgent.

I looked at him with astonishment, wondering why he couldn't discuss whatever it was in front of us. Did he have no shame?

"It seems Mr. Lockwood has lost his manners". Giovanni says cooly.

Zachary looked like he wanted to punch something. He gave me a hard look, when we were married that look meant that I was out of line and wanted to keep me in check.

"We have nothing to discuss Zachary", I say, slowly wrapping my hand around the fork, trying to control my breathing.

"Emily, we need to talk about us," He says. I look at him in shock. Giovanni lets out a small chuckle.

"Zachary, what the hell are you talking about? There is no us" I say.

"I don't care about your current husband. I'm not sure what kind of messed up relationship you have with this man, all I know is that it won't last" He says completely ignoring Giovanni's presence.

I look up at him, "We're divorced for a reason, there's nothing left to discuss."

"You left me for this guy. I deserve an explanation why". He suddenly says, looking like I had seriously wronged him.

I swear if not for self-restraint, I would have slapped this bastard back to where he came from.

"I left you??" My voice raised a bit, making the few people in the place turn to us. "Are you out of your mind? You divorced me, you Psychopath" I breathe.

"I don't care about these people. you should know what kind of person she is." He turns to Giovanni.

"I know the kind of person you are." Giovanni simply says, "And I suggest you leave this place before you draw more attention to yourself".

"You're embarrassing yourself. Please, just leave". I say.

"I'll leave, but this isn't over." He says before walking out of the restaurant.

People in the restaurant were watching us carefully, wanting something juicy to talk about next.

I began to feel uncomfortable again.

"If you don't like this place, we can go somewhere else". Giovanni says softly.

He was right, I wanted to leave.

"No it's fine, we haven't even ordered yet, I'm good".

"You're obviously upset and don't want to be here anymore, let's go. We don't have to stay here he says.

I get up and we make our way out of the restaurant. Zachary had ruined the night once again.

When we got home, I let out a sigh and put my handbag down. Why wouldn't Zachary just leave me alone. What exactly did he want from me again?

The music suddenly starts playing. Love Takes Time by Mariah Carey fills the room.

Giovanni takes my hand and we begin dancing. My body felt different. I had never felt this way before with anybody and for the first time, I started to see Giovanni differently.

I hum along to the music and laugh at his bad singing, he twirls me around and I continue to laugh. The music stops and Giovanni looks at me with a strange look on his face.

"Back up," I whisper.

As he moves closer to me, my heart races and I try to push him away, but he traps me against the wall, his scent an intoxicant. I feel his warm breath on my skin as he lingers over me. My words fail me as I try to speak, his lips brush against mine before planting his lips on mine.

He bites my lips softly making me gasp and his tongue interlocks with mine. It was slow, sweet and when I felt comfortable I started to kiss back. He broke the kiss staring into my eyes. We were both out of breath. His hair was disheveled from my hands, he looked breathtakingly handsome and I felt weak in the knees from the way he looked at me.

He cups my chin and makes me look up at him.

He asks in a husky voice, "What did you say?"

After I caught my breath, I was about to say something when the ringing of my phone, breaks the intense moment.

"I-, Giovanni"

My phone rang at that moment breaking the trance. I didn't want to take it.

"Aren't you going to take that?" Giovanni whispers.

"Mmm," I hum.

I went to the back and took the call, it was from an unknown number.

"Hello?"

No response. There was low breathing, on the other end.

"Hello? Who is this?" I ask.

Click!

The person on the other end cut the call. I stare at my phone in shock. Who on earth was that? Probably a wrong number.

Ping!

"Soon you will lose everything most dear to you

I stare at the text written in bold red letters. A shiver goes down my spine.
