RISSA'S POV
Bright golden rays of sunlight that seeped through the cracks in my wooden shack, rested on my face. The sun was up. It was morning already. I opened my eyes, and the morning sunlight blinded me momentarily making me to shield my face with my palms.I must have slept in today. I usually wake up much earlier than this. Even before the sun comes up. Maybe it's because I slept late while thinking about my encounter with the strange man that was caught in my trap yesterday. He was indeed very strange. Why did he run away when I offered him to spend the night here? Talk about weird. Well I guess he's off my case now. Maybe he found his way home or something. I pondered as I stood up to prepare for the activities for the day.I missed my stake out yesterday because of him. He totally disrupted all the plans I had for the day yesterday. The more I thought of it, the more it made my blood boil. Especially since he didn't even care to show some appreciation before storming off.Well, at least he's gone now and I can focus on others things. I slipped on a pair of black skinny jeans and a green flower patterned blouse, then I put on my hoodie to protect me from the cold. I lowered and reached under my bed and grabbed my good pair of sneakers I usually wear when sneaking into the packs. I grabbed my squirrel gun and hung it over my shoulder. It was the one thing that was very essential to my survival out there. There are lots of wild animals out there that could attack me, and I have to be ready to defend myself if that happens. Also, there are other dangerous rogues out there that might want to rob, rape or eat me. The forest is not a very friendly place, especially rogue territories. It is survival of the fittest around here. There was no law and order in the wild, so literally anything could happen. After putting on my sneakers, I opened the door and headed out. I looked up and noticed a figure in the distance.I grumbled. It was the strange man from yesterday. What was he still doing here? I thought he left already. Unfortunately, I was wrong. There he was, sitting on a log and staring into the forest.Should I ignore him and go my way? Well, I couldn't. He was on my property.Well... actually... nobody owns anything in these forests, but still, this was my space. I built this shack with my mum and no one was going to invade my territory."Hey!!!" I called out."Hey, mister." I walked up to his position to make sure he heard me. I stood beside him calling his attention but he still didn't respond.Rude much?"Hey, Sir. You're on my property." I said, tapping on his shoulder. To be honest, I have no idea where the boldness to confront a man nearly twice my size came from.He looked up at me unamused, with a stern frown plastered across his face. I stepped back a little to what seemed to me like a safe distance. It was my property, but it didn't mean I couldn't get killed on it. I had to be smart, to avoid my tombstone reading, 'she was killed while defending her property.'I was scared, but still annoyed. Couldn't he at least respond to me? His silence was getting quite annoying. "Um, Mister... I think you should leave. You've overstayed your welcome." I added.Strange man: "..."He looked up at me again and then lowered his head. His silence was annoying. But as he looked up at me in those few seconds, his silence said a thousand words.I could see agony and uneasiness in his eyes. He didn't leave much of an expression, but his eyes were pleading. His facial expression was cold and empty. Two things came to mind my mind. He was either helpness and lost. Or, he was a psychopathic maniac who was just sizing me up before he killed me.I couldn't stay and wait for number 2 to happen so I thought to leave that place as soon as possible. I would go about my schedule for the day, and hopefully when I return, he would have been long gone.Fortunately, what I had on my schedule was something that may take a whole day or two.For some months now I've been secretly sneaking into different packs around, to try and find my mother. I would wear a nice dress and sneak into the pack villages trying my best to mingle with the residents to avoid being spotted as a rogue. If that were to happen, I would be arrested and imprisoned immediately. Or even worse, I may be executed. The packs have strict rules about letting rogues into their towns. Thanks to the new alpha. So far, I've not really had any luck finding her. My guts tell me she's in one of their prisons. If that was the case, then rescuing her would be very difficult. But I'm not about to give up soon.My life feels incomplete without my mum. She disappeared three years ago, some weeks to my eighteenth birthday. She was my role model. She was fierce, determined and strong. Ever since my dad died and we left the city, my life lost direction. We left the city not having any other family members there that would accommodate us, so I had to stop My mum started home-schooling me since then. She's the center of my existence right now. And her being dead is not an option for me. I have to find her.The lunar dusk pack is only pack I haven't infiltrated yet. Their border security is just too tight. But still I have to try. The plan was to go there today and try to sneak in without being spotted. Provided this jerk doesn't screw up my plans again.I took a few steps forward, stopping right in front of him. "I want you out of this premises by the time I get back!" I blurted, carrying my heart in my hands in fear of what his reaction would be like. Strange man: "..." I grunted as my mind flooded with contempt. With my mind boiling with rage, I turned around abruptly to walk away, oblivious to the large tree branch hanging in front of me at face level. I bumped into it with so much force, I landed on the floor after the collision. The pain shot through my entire body at an incredible speed. Stars were hovering over my head as I landed to the floor.I must look so stupid right now. I could imagine the smirk forming by the corner of his lips as I fell."Are you okay?" I heard a voice echoing from behind me. It was deep, polished and smooth. Like honey slowly mixing in caramel. Then I felt a shadow fall over me. I looked up and my eyes caught an inverted face looking down at me. He had stood up to come and help me.As I gazed into his eyes from the floor where I lay, squealing and wincing in pain, I realized that that was the first time I heard his voice. It was calm and more comforting than I thought. He extended his arms towards me. I think he wanted me to grab his hand so he could pull me up, but my hands were too busy massaging my throbbing forehead so I hesitated. Apparently, the stars above my head were still hovering around. I think I might have a concussion. In the blink of an eye, I saw myself defying gravity and rising above the ground. I opened my eyes and realized that 'strange man' here had picked me up from the ground bridal style pressed against his rock-hard chest. Then he started moving. He carried me to the shack and placed me on the bed and turned around to leave."Thank you!" I said to him. He turned around and gave me a nod. I expected him to return my smile, but his face bore no emotions still. He turned to leave again and I called out to him. "Wait... don't go."He just helped me out so might not be as dangerous as I thought — I hope."Why don't you have a seat?" I offered him. He hesitated for a while and then eventually sat down on the chair next to the bed. Him helping me increased my curiosity about him."What's your name?" I asked softly. He didn't respond. He just looked away. How much weirder can he get?I shrugged and grabbed a small mirror on the table near my bed. I examined my bruised forehead through the mirror and it was a bit swollen.I guess I'd have to cancel my plans today again. My head hurts like hell. The sun had come up and the room was getting hot, so I sat up and took off my hoodie and then my blouse, leaving me with only my bra on, to help with the heat. Suddenly, he raised his head and immediately he looked at me, he yelled. "No!!!" Then he sprang up from his chair and stormed out of the room.I know I'm not the goddess of beauty or anything, but he didn't have to be an ass running off like that immediately I took off my clothes. What exactly is wrong with that guy. I've had enough of his weird behavior.I shrugged and grabbed a towel and soaked in water then I placed it on my forehead since I didn't have any ice. I looked out the window and to check if I'll see him outside. He wasn't there, so I lied back down on my bed and dozed off, hoping that this was the end to all the awkwardness.RISSA'S POVMy head was still throbbing painfully as I opened my eyes, awaken from my slumber. I rubbed my forehead with my palm in an attempt to ease the pain.I must have slept for about 4 hours because when I woke up, the sun was directly overhead, indicating that it was noon. I didn't have any clocks or any time piece at all, so I have learned to use the sun's position to know what time of day it was. There was a phone in my drawer that belonged to my mom, though. But it was very old and the batteries were long dead. Well, it's not like I have someone outside here to call anyways, so I didn't bother myself trying to get it charged. I didn't know my mother's family, and when I found my father's family in the city after my mum went missing, they spat in my face and threw me out telling me they didn't want to have anything to do with me. So yeah, I didn't have any need for a communication device. After I woke up, I went outside to breathe in some fresh air and feel the cool forest bre
***TRIGGER WARNING: This chapter contains scenes that may be disturbing for some readers. Readers discretion*** RISSA'S POV “Let me go!!!” I struggled as I hung topsy-turvy on his back. He was too strong for me to overpower, so I just kept on punching his back. Unfortunately, my little punches didn’t seem to have any effect on his muscular physique.“You let me go right now!!!” I ordered. Trying to sound as intimidating as possible to hide my fear. “You’re in my territory.”“Shut up, rogue.” The second werewolf rebutted. “You’re an abomination to werewolves. As a matter of fact, all rogues are. So you have no territory here. You have nothing. You shouldn’t even be allowed to live.” he said in a croaky, low pitched voice, staring at my whole body in a creepy manner like he could see through my clothes. Wait! So, because I didn’t have a pack, does it mean that they can just pick me up, and do whatever they wanted with my bodyWell, I knew the answer to that question already. It was ev
RISSA'S POVOnce again, my hopes were shattered as I figured that this man may not be able to do anything about my situation. Sure, he was big and muscular, but he was outnumbered. Also, from the way I saw it, he didn't look like he cared. But then, in a second, I noticed his shoulders get bigger, and then in a blink, the rest of his body began to morph and re-shape. Shiny silver fur grew all over his body instantly. He was shifting into his wolf. The noise from outside the window distracted my assailants, and they turned around and beheld the large wolf behind them.Instantly, my jaw dropped in awe and utter befuddlement. This was the biggest wolf I had ever seen. He was easily twice the size of these idiots who chased me.It seemed to me like they could recognize this wolf because the gaze in their eyes screamed familiarity.“It’s Drax!” one of them whispered. So they did know this wolf. Before they could take in another breath, Drax charged in through the window, breaking a large
DRAX’S POVThe last two days have been the worst days of my entire life, in which I spent reflecting the literal meaning of the words: FUGITIVE and OUTCAST.The best thing that has happened to me in the last two days is finding out that my wolf didn’t kill Rissa. After seeing her being molested by three dudes, I was angry, but I guess I must have been a bit aroused too, causing my wolf to spring up and attack.I had expected that my wolf would attack everyone as usual. Without any intention of leaving survivors. But surprisingly, he stopped in front of Rissa and allowed me to shift back into my human form before something bloody happened. What exactly is going on? I have never been able to shift back at will ever since my wolf became untameable. I was so surprised. I’m pretty sure I acted like a kid who just received a Christmas present. What exactly is happening? I asked in my head, scanning all over Rissa’s body to find any scars that might have been caused by my big bad wolf. There
After musing on my next course of action, I remembered that I had never thanked Rissa for saving me from that trap. Also, for the food and shelter.I waited a few minutes, and she came out all dressed with her hands inside her pockets. She looked stunningly beautiful under the shadows of the moonlight.“Rissa, I’m sorry for barging in like that. I didn’t mean to.” I pleaded, feeling genuinely sorry for her.She sighed softly and nodded her head slowly, acknowledging my apology.“Also, thanks for the food the other day. I don’t know what I would have done without it.” I walked closer to her. “I appreciate it a lot. “I was happy when her face lit up with a bright smile. Then I realized that was the first time I had actually seen her smile, and it was totally refreshing.“You’re welcome. Thanks for saving me today too. Although I’m still confused as to why you were trying to murder me.” She scowled. As much as I’d love to have an ear with whom I can pour out my heart and share my burden
The air in the room suddenly became cold. I already knew I was in serious danger. To make matters worse, I just implicated this innocent girl. I guess my bad luck is contagious after all.Rissa put the walkie talkie on the wooden table by the side and made a thinking face. "Hmmm, I wonder who these guys are after. Well, whoever it is, I'm definitely sure they're in a lot of trouble." She said shaking her head. With panic written all over my face, I stood up and reached for one of the backpacks on the floor. I ransacked it and selected a pair of jeans and a shirt from the clothes inside. I put them on hastily, and grabbed Rissa's hands. "Quick... We need to leave here now." I said hastily.Rissa snatched her arms out of my grip forcefully. "What do you mean we need to leave here?! I'm not going anywhere with you." She pursed her lips. I facepalmed in frustration as my heart rate elevated rapidly. "Don't you get it? We're in danger. They're out looking for us, and they have orders to
RISSA’S POVIf you had asked me earlier what I’d be doing later in the evening, I’m pretty sure raped, chased around naked, and hunted by an angry wolf mob wouldn’t even make it to the list.I have been living as a rogue in that shack for some years now. Although my life did not necessarily have a direction, at least I had a routine that I’d gotten used to and a goal of finding my mother, and it gave my life a small sense of purpose. As we fled for our lives, I looked back at my shack as it was being invaded by those wolves, and I immediately knew that my situation had just graduated from bad to worse, and my life would never be the same. All thanks to this asshole who I’m escaping with. I still can’t believe I’m on the same team with the idiot who’s responsible for all this.As soon as we crawled a safe distance away from the shack, we picked up the pace and took to our heels, knowing that the angry mob would continue their pursuit once they searched and realized we were no longer in
RISSA’S POVIn the morning...I woke up feeling a bit disoriented. I guess waking up on the cold floor in the middle of nowhere for the first time in a long while felt strange, because it had been a long time since I slept without a roof over my head.Waking up to that scenery made my memories flash back to the times when my mom and I had just left the city and were newly homeless. Those were very tough times, but my mom struggled very hard to make sure we survived, and I’ll be eternally grateful to her for her strength.Unfortunately, I’m back to being homeless. Thanks to that maniac.Shit! What the fuck is wrong with me? I just remembered that I promised myself not to blame Drax entirely for the situation we’re currently in after hearing his apology yesterday. It wasn’t intentional. And besides, he tried to make things right by not letting me be captured by those hunters. It’s safe to say that there was no harm intended. The problem is, I have my own issues to deal with, and now I h
