Nala
Age: 26 I look down at the man kneeling before me. As whispers ring out around us, I can't help but feel embarrassed by it all. "Stand up, Mr. Winters. You're making everyone uncomfortable." As my ex-husband looks up, I see desperate tears in his eyes. "Nala, please... give me another chance. I know I've wronged you this whole time, so please... let me make this up to you." I clench my fists as I watch this pitiful man. Once upon a time, I would have taken him back. Even now, I love him with all my heart. It's something I can't help. However, I can't get weak now. I'm not alone anymore. "Why should I?" I ask him calmly. "Why do I have to bend to your whims every time? I can't do that anymore." I grit my teeth. "Just because you're the great Ivan Winters doesn't mean you can have everything you want." Ivan flinches and looks down, his body trembling. Oh, how the mighty have fallen! The great and powerful CEO can't buy me with sweet words and promises anymore, nor can he intimidate me with fists and harsh words. Before he can say anything, my daughter, Akita, cuts in. "You tried to take us by force, and now you want to act nice?" She stands in front of me and holds her arms out as a protective measure. "I don't buy it for a second!" I can't help but smile at her fierce loyalty. Meanwhile, my youngest, Noah, clings to my leg and hides from the big, scary man. "I-I wanna go home, Mama..." he whispers, his blue eyes brimming with tears. I offer a small smile and nod. "We'll be home soon," I murmur gently before directing my attention back to Ivan. "I won't hurt any of you again!" Ivan promises fiercely. "I was blinded by Kass for so long that I never saw through her. All along, it was you that I wanted and loved." "Ha!" A small laugh comes from behind me, and my best friend, Ky, stands next to me. "Is that so? Well, too bad you've ruined it forever then, huh?" she coos to him. "Call me whatever you like, but at least I'm not absolute trash like you." Ivan's eyes darken in frustration. He must hate all the interference he's getting. It makes me wonder if he thinks he'd be able to get to me if I were alone. With how much of a pushover I was before, he probably does. "Mr. Winters," I start, giving a polite and distant tone on purpose. "No matter how much you beg, my answer will remain the same. Until you truly understand how much you've hurt me, nothing will change." As I reach down and pick up Noah, Ivan speaks again. "You need me, Nala. You can't take care of our son properly without my help. We can make this work! Please just give me a chance! I won't ever disappoint or hurt you again." Ky laughs again while I shake my head. "Take a look at this guy! How pathetic!" She walks over to Ivan and steps on one of his hands with the heel of her shoe. "Give it up. She doesn't need you when she has me. I'm way richer than you'll ever be." Ivan flinches and glares up at Ky while her green eyes sparkle with delight. I sigh and shake my head. "She's enjoying herself way too much." "Ky, that's enough." As she pouts and steps away from Ivan, I take a deep breath. "Mr. Winters, you wanted it to be this way. You can't suddenly regret it and think I'll just jump at the opportunity to be with you." My eyes narrow. "Of course, that's what you always called me, right? An opportunist who was only ever after your money? Well, you've been wrong all along." Ivan grimaces and looks down, ashamed. However, all I do is walk past him, done with this conversation. "Now, if you don't mind, Noah's scared and wants to go home." He doesn't try to stop me this time and just remains where he is on the ground, still crying as if he lost something so important to him. Why, though, when he's never wanted me from the beginning? As I walk with my little family and best friend, I can't help but wonder where things started going wrong between us. How did I, a simple, low-paid social worker, get entangled with a rich CEO like Ivan? So many years have passed since then, but our story started long before that. He may not remember those days, but I do quite well. It's the whole reason I'm hopelessly devoted to Ivan Winters. Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. This misfortune started over six years ago with a single mistake that changed our lives forever.Nala As I step into the Winters' mansion, I'm immediately overwhelmed by the decor and the grandeur of it all. Sure, I see Ky's mansion all the time, but I'm used to her bright, hot-pink everything and interesting style. This place is on a whole other level, but i don't think it's for the better. Everything is without personality: blank white and gray with gold accents from the light fixtures. I don't see a single family picture, either. It's like walking into a clean, sterile doctor's office, devoid of anything personal. "Welcome." I jump at the sudden voice and look up to see aman in a dark suit standing in front of me. He bows politely. "I believe it's Natalia, correct? My name is Robert, the butler who works for the Winters. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask." As I stare at the old man, I quickly realize I'm way out of my element. My nerves get the better of me, and I nod slowly. "T-thank you, sir... I-I'll be in your care then." Robert nods and motions for me t
Going out in public has become a pain, but I can't stay in the office or my own home any longer. I want freedom more than anything, so I decide to go out. Plus, I don't want to be home when Natalia moves in. As I get into the car, I take note of the new driver. I fired the last one, much to Grandmother's annoyance, and a new one came in quickly. "Where would you like to go, Young Master?" the driver asks curiously. He's much younger than the last one. "Oh, pardon me. My name is Clayton, and I'll be your evening driver from now on." I shrug and lean back. "Velvet Noir," I say bluntly. It isn't a place with great memories, but at least I won't have to deal with paparazzi inside. I need a strong drink anyway. Clayton nods politely and starts driving without asking any questions. Good. At least I can have some peace and quiet so I can wallow in my own misery. What set me off the most today was Grandmother suggesting that I buy Natalia and me wedding bands. "It will make it official,
Nala After agreeing to the marriage, the next few days pass in a blur. Before I can question anything, Ivan's grandmother drags us to a courthouse, and after a small ceremony and signing some papers, I'm suddenly Natalia Winters. "We'll have a real ceremony in a few months," Grandmother explains in an excited tone while I stare at the marriage certificate in disbelief. "This is more of a formality so that I know Ivan won't go behind my back." Ivan growls under his breath and glares out the window. "I never had a choice in the matter to begin with." He turns his glare on me, making me flinch. "What we really need is a contract drawn up so she won't try anything." I quickly look down and shake my head. "I-I don't need anything..." I whisper, closing my eyes. He hates me. Ivan hates me. My childhood friend wants nothing more than to drop me and never look at me again. Why has it come to this? "Oh, stop it already," Ivan's grandmother scolds him. "She can have whatever she wants wit
Nala As I start to stir, I hear two voices, one angry and the other stern. I open my eyes, finding myself in an unfamiliar bedroom, and look over to see Ivan and an old woman. As memories of our first meeting flood back to me, I subconsciously whisper, "Nini..." before their words finally reach my ears. "It's merely the child you want!" Ivan's tone is dark and hateful. "I don't see why we can't just take the baby after it's born! Why do I have to give up my life and the woman I love?! How's that fair?!" My heart begins to pound hard in my chest. That's right! How do they already know about my pregnancy? I was never going to tell them and just quietly raise the child on my own. "Yes, we could do that. It would be very simple too," the old woman says, tapping her cane on the ground. "Even easier so..." "N-no...!" I say without thinking, their eyes snapping in my direction. I start to breathe heavily once more and hug myself tightly. They want me to give away or kill my baby? I wo
Ivan As I sit in my living room, I can't help but be in a daze. Everything feels so far away, and I'm mostly numb to it all. How did it come to this? I barely remember even getting home. Grandmother's words still echo in my mind. "Don't you dare do anything to the woman carrying my great-grandbaby." I wish this could be nothing more than a nightmare. The bitch got knocked up from that night? How do we know it's mine? Then I remember the blood on the sheets and bury my face in my hands. If Grandmother wasn't completely certain, she wouldn't have brought her here after she fainted. I can still see the dull fear in her eyes, one that didn't see me for who I am at all. It's a fear that can't be fake, one I know very well. I've seen it and been through it so many times. Just arriving home was chaos, with everyone trying to figure out what was going on while Grandmother barked orders about Natalia. As I look around, I spot Robert doing everything she told him. Is he one of her spies t
Nala Age: 6 That morning, Daddy picks out a pretty black dress for me and dresses me up to his liking. My hair is put into high pigtails with a matching headdress on my head. With long white stockings and black shoes, the look is complete. "You suit the Lolita style perfectly, Nat," Daddy murmurs, adding some bows to my pigtails. "It makes me not want anyone else to see you. You're just so pretty..." I shift slightly, feeling uncomfortable at his tone and the odd look on his face. I don't ever understand what he's talking about. I just don't want to get in trouble. "T-thank you, Da... I-I... very happy..." I whisper. Daddy nods and grabs his wallet. "Be good now. Don't cause any trouble, and you won't be punished." He takes my hand and leads me outside. I stumble slightly but don't fall. That would make him mad, and I don't want that today. As we walk down the street, I try to stay close to Daddy. I don't feel safe with him normally, but he is all I know. "Don't bother anyone
Nala "I don't know about this, Ky," I say nervously inside a fitting room. "I feel like I need a jacket or something. Or at least some leggings." I hug myself tightly. "Nonsense! I'm sure you look lovely, so come on out and let me see what it looks like," Ky calls out cheerfully, making me sigh.
Nala I'm just getting out of work when I check my phone. Many texts and missed calls from Ky greet me, which immediately worries me. I get to the bus stop and dial her number. "About time, little whore!" Ky's cheerful and happy tone greets me on the line. It's slightly muffled by wind noises so I
Ivan My day starts like any other, to the point of boredom. I ring a bell next to my bed, and a maid walks inside, pushing a cart with my breakfast. Today's meal consists of eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, and a side of fresh summer fruit. My favorite thing here, though, is the plain black coffee,
Nala Age: 20 My day starts like any other, though today I have something to look forward to: the weekend. Friday will be busier than any other day, but it will just make it go by faster. I also love my work as a social worker. Being small and unthreatening helps a lot when I'm working with scare
