登入Nala Oka has loved Ivan Winters for as long as she can remember. Though they were once childhood friends, Ivan barely remembers the bond they shared, while Nala has never forgotten him. After a drunken one-night encounter leaves her pregnant, Nala finds herself trapped in a shotgun marriage to a man who resents her. When tragedy strikes and she delivers a stillborn baby, Ivan's blame only deepens the divide between them. Branded a gold digger and denied the affection she longs for, Nala endures a loveless marriage, determined to make the best of her circumstances. Her fragile hopes are shattered when Ivan's former lover returns and Nala discovers he has been unfaithful. Worse still, he has built a family with another woman. Heartbroken, Nala signs the divorce papers and walks away, determined never to look back. Years later, fate brings them together again when Nala becomes a surrogate for her best friend. No longer the timid woman Ivan once knew, she refuses to tolerate his anger or control. But as old secrets come to light and long-standing misunderstandings begin to unravel, both are forced to confront painful truths about their past. Now Ivan is determined to win back the woman he once pushed away. Yet Nala knows all too well the cost of trusting him. As buried feelings resurface and old wounds threaten to reopen, she must decide whether some loves deserve a second chance—or whether walking away remains the only path to happiness.

Age: 26 I look down at the man kneeling before me. As whispers ring out around us, I can't help but feel embarrassed by it all. "Stand up, Mr. Winters. You're making everyone uncomfortable." As my ex-husband looks up, I see desperate tears in his eyes. "Nala, please... give me another chance. I know I've wronged you this whole time, so please... let me make this up to you." I clench my fists as I watch this pitiful man. Once upon a time, I would have taken him back. Even now, I love him with all my heart. It's something I can't help. However, I can't get weak now. I'm not alone anymore. "Why should I?" I ask him calmly. "Why do I have to bend to your whims every time? I can't do that anymore." I grit my teeth. "Just because you're the great Ivan Winters doesn't mean you can have everything you want." Ivan flinches and looks down, his body trembling. Oh, how the mighty have fallen! The great and powerful CEO can't buy me with sweet words and promises anymore, nor can he intimidate me with fists and harsh words. Before he can say anything, my daughter, Akita, cuts in. "You tried to take us by force, and now you want to act nice?" She stands in front of me and holds her arms out as a protective measure. "I don't buy it for a second!" I can't help but smile at her fierce loyalty. Meanwhile, my youngest, Noah, clings to my leg and hides from the big, scary man. "I-I wanna go home, Mama..." he whispers, his blue eyes brimming with tears. I offer a small smile and nod. "We'll be home soon," I murmur gently before directing my attention back to Ivan. "I won't hurt any of you again!" Ivan promises fiercely. "I was blinded by Kass for so long that I never saw through her. All along, it was you that I wanted and loved." "Ha!" A small laugh comes from behind me, and my best friend, Ky, stands next to me. "Is that so? Well, too bad you've ruined it forever then, huh?" she coos to him. "Call me whatever you like, but at least I'm not absolute trash like you." Ivan's eyes darken in frustration. He must hate all the interference he's getting. It makes me wonder if he thinks he'd be able to get to me if I were alone. With how much of a pushover I was before, he probably does. "Mr. Winters," I start, giving a polite and distant tone on purpose. "No matter how much you beg, my answer will remain the same. Until you truly understand how much you've hurt me, nothing will change." As I reach down and pick up Noah, Ivan speaks again. "You need me, Nala. You can't take care of our son properly without my help. We can make this work! Please just give me a chance! I won't ever disappoint or hurt you again." Ky laughs again while I shake my head. "Take a look at this guy! How pathetic!" She walks over to Ivan and steps on one of his hands with the heel of her shoe. "Give it up. She doesn't need you when she has me. I'm way richer than you'll ever be." Ivan flinches and glares up at Ky while her green eyes sparkle with delight. I sigh and shake my head. "She's enjoying herself way too much." "Ky, that's enough." As she pouts and steps away from Ivan, I take a deep breath. "Mr. Winters, you wanted it to be this way. You can't suddenly regret it and think I'll just jump at the opportunity to be with you." My eyes narrow. "Of course, that's what you always called me, right? An opportunist who was only ever after your money? Well, you've been wrong all along." Ivan grimaces and looks down, ashamed. However, all I do is walk past him, done with this conversation. "Now, if you don't mind, Noah's scared and wants to go home." He doesn't try to stop me this time and just remains where he is on the ground, still crying as if he lost something so important to him. Why, though, when he's never wanted me from the beginning? As I walk with my little family and best friend, I can't help but wonder where things started going wrong between us. How did I, a simple, low-paid social worker, get entangled with a rich CEO like Ivan? So many years have passed since then, but our story started long before that. He may not remember those days, but I do quite well. It's the whole reason I'm hopelessly devoted to Ivan Winters. Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. This misfortune started over six years ago with a single mistake that changed our lives forever.Ivan As I drink, I start to drown out the others and look around. No one ever says anything of note after about fifteen minutes, so it's no big deal. Now we're just hanging out, drinking, and having our own form of fun. I take another drink, already on my third, and relax. It takes a while for alcohol to affect me, so I don't have to worry about being a messy drunk. Before that happens, I plan on texting my driver to get me out of here. "Look at that fine woman over there!" Scotty's voice makes me focus on them again. "Isn't that the model? What was it... Brooks?" I follow his heated gaze and frown when I see a woman in a very short hot-pink dress. She's not my type at all. I can just tell she thinks her shit doesn't stink, and I hate it when women are that arrogant. It's not attractive in the slightest. "Kyla Brooks, eh?" Grayson hums, watching as she dances with some young men. "She always has odd rumors surrounding her. Years back, everyone thought she was dating her own broth
Nala "What's your favorite fruit?" Ky seems to ask randomly. "I like juicy pears myself! The Asian ones have the best scent, too. What about you?" I tilt my head curiously and think for a moment. "Cherries... I like myself a cherry limeade, after all. Remember?" Ky's eyes light up, and she nods. "Perfect! Hey, young man, come over here!" She waves to the bartender. "I'd like an Asian pear and apple margarita, and my friend here would like a cherry one with extra juice!" I tense, but before I can protest, the man nods and leaves to go make our drinks. I then nudge Ky. "What are you doing? I'm not old enough! Plus, I don't like the taste or smell of alcohol." Ky giggles and nudges me back. "Come on, loosen up! Don't forget this is our night to celebrate!" She then pouts while batting her pretty green eyes. "Can't you do this for your best friend?" I frown, feeling a pang of guilt, while the man comes back with our drinks. I wait for him to ask for our IDs, seeing it as my only way
Ivan "I'm heading out now, Janice. If the chairwoman asks for my report, let her know I've already emailed it to her," I tell my secretary as I head for the door. I want to get out of here before I run into her. Janice follows close behind and nods. "Yes, sir. Here's your file for your final meeting tonight." She offers it to me. I look it over and relax. She never fails at her job, and I'm grateful for her help. I'll be hurting when the older lady finally retires or leaves the company. "Good work. See you Monday morning. If I need anything over the weekend, I'll give you a call," I tell her before walking out of my office and toward my personal elevator. I text my driver that I'm ready to leave for the final meeting and enter the elevator, hoping that I'll miss her. Of course, I don't get my way as a cane stops the elevator door from closing. "Leaving without saying goodbye, huh?" Grandmother asks as she steps into the elevator after me. "Not very gentleman-like. Looks like you
Nala "I don't know about this, Ky," I say nervously inside a fitting room. "I feel like I need a jacket or something. Or at least some leggings." I hug myself tightly. "Nonsense! I'm sure you look lovely, so come on out and let me see what it looks like," Ky calls out cheerfully, making me sigh. "You better hurry, or I might just pick out three more outfits for you to try on." I tense up. Anything but that! I quickly open the door and step out. "T-there..." I manage, hugging myself again. I feel so naked in this dress. It doesn't even reach below my upper thigh and shows too much of my back. It is a beautiful dress made with high-quality fabric and materials, but it's just not my style. I also don't like wearing so much black. I do like the lace at the bottom, but other than that, it's too much. "You look lovely!" Ky praises and starts circling me. "It's fun dressing you in all the size 0 dresses here. You're nice and petite, and it makes you gorgeous." She then pouts. "If only I
