Nina’s POV

Later that day, I sat curled up on the plush chaise by the tall arched window in the reading lounge of the penthouse. The afternoon sun was gentle, falling across the marble tiles, but my heart was anything but calm. I needed air, silence, peace, but none of that lived here anymore.

That’s when I heard her voice, It was faint at first, distant. Then clearer, coming from down the hall.

I rose to my feet instinctively, my heart caught in an odd rhythm as I walked toward her room. Her voice filtered through the air, it was steady, cold, as if untouched by anything this house had endured. She was on a call, and though I couldn’t make out the words, something about the calmness in her tone made my chest tighten.

I stopped outside her door, something about her unnerved me, it wasn’t her blindness, but the way she seemed to see through things anyway.
