Selene’s POV
“I am not going,” I muttered as I started walking away from my father.I had no reason to be there anymore. My mom’s body was gone. I wasn’t going with my father and I didn’t want to talk to him again. There was no need for me to linger at the burial site any longer. I was going to go home, sleep on my mom’s bed, and scream my eyes out.I wasn’t going with my father anyplace. There was no friggin way that I was abandoning my rucksack. There was no friggin way that I was going anywhere with that dude.“Selene!” he yelled after me.I didn’t react. I didn’t even turn around. The dude left me. He deserted my mom. I didn’t need him or his sympathy money.“Selene!” he called me again, but this time I heard him following behind me.I started walking faster.“Selene, stop!” my father shouted.I ignored him.My heart was thumping a mile a minute. I wasn’t leaving. I wasn’t leaving my pack. I wasn’t leaving my house. My mom’s stuff was there. I wasn’t going to leave the spot that reminded me of my mom. Her fragrance was still there. I couldn't leave. I didn’t want to leave.I felt tears flow down my cheeks.Someone grabbed my arm and stopped me.I sensed wrath mounting.“Selene, please,” my father begged.I tried to withdraw my arm from his hold, but he merely tightened his grip on it.“I know I screwed up, Selene,” he groaned as he turned me around. “Please let me make it right.”I squinted my eyes at him.“I don’t need you to make it right,” I said. “I don’t need your help. My mom and I were well on our own. I am going to be OK on my own.”“You do need his help, Selene,” Alpha Jasper moaned. “You don’t have money. You are about to lose your house. You need your father’s help.”A searing agony surged across my chest. I felt tears in the corners of my eyes, but these weren’t sad tears, they were furious ones. I always sobbed when I was furious and I despised it.“I can work more,” I responded, my voice hoarse. “I can take more shifts. You can offer me a job in the packhouse. I can…”“Selene,” Alpha Jasper interrupted me.He groaned and withdrew my father’s fingers away. He drew me into a hug and the tears finally spilled on my cheeks.“You need to go with your father, Selene,” Alpha Jasper remarked quietly.“Why?” I asked, trying to stop my voice from cracking. “I don’t need him. I don’t want to go with him. I can remain here. I can remain at the packhouse. I can work as much as you need me to.”Alpha Jasper moaned as he let me go. He placed his hands on my shoulders and bent down.“You know the pack rules, Selene,” he added. “You can’t live in the packhouse until you get your wolf.”I stiffened my jaw.“Can’t you make an exception?” I begged. “I am 17. I will be 18 in nine months.”Alpha Jasper took a big breath and exhaled it gently.“I can’t do that, Selene,” he murmured, hurting my heart all over again. “You are not the first wolf to lose a parent. Usually, the wolves that are underage go live with their family. Your father is the only living relative you have.”I attempted to gulp down the lump in my throat.“So you are exiling me?” I asked gently.“Goddess, Selene, no!” Alpha Jasper exclaimed. “The minute you turn 18 and get your wolf you can come back and live in the packhouse.”I looked down and took a long breath.“I am so sorry, Selene,” Alpha Jasper groaned. “Your mom wanted you to go live with your dad.”I looked up at my father and his new mate.“My mom forgave him for what he did,” I added. “I never will.”My father closed his eyes and took a big breath.“You don’t need to forgive me, Selene,” he murmured as he opened his eyes and stared at me. “You just need to let me take care of you.”I wanted to escape away. I wanted to disappear. I wanted to find another pack and start over. But I knew what would happen the minute I left my rucksack. I still didn’t have my wolf and I felt unprotected. The rogues would devour me alive, and if they didn’t and I somehow made it to another pack, they would send out a message that there was a 17-year-old she-wolf on the run. I would end up back here or with my father.I couldn't go away and start my life in another pack until I was 18.“You won’t be taking care of me,” I answered coldly. “I will find a job at your pack. I shall feed myself. I will take care of myself. I will only go with you because I know what would happen to me if I didn’t. The moment I turn 18, I shall be out of your pack and out of your life.”My father’s eyes expanded.“We are fine with that,” his selected mate responded.I didn’t even know that she was standing next to my father.Of course, they were cool with it. My father never wanted me. If my mom hadn’t phoned him, he wouldn't even know that she was sick and dying.“Selene…” my father said, but I interrupted him.“I said everything I wanted to say,” I muttered, squeezing my hands. “When are we leaving?”My father gazed at Alpha Jasper.“Tomorrow morning,” Alpha Jasper replied. “Your father and his mate will stay at the packhouse.”I nodded and turned around. I ran toward my house.I couldn't comprehend that I had to leave my house. I couldn't believe that I wouldn't be able to stay here. I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to go.But I had to.It would be for nine months only. Nine months and I would be free. Nine months and I would never have to see my father again.“How are you?”Alex asked. I was lying on her twin-sized bed next to her. I should have gone home, I wanted to go home, but I could not bear the empty house. I thought I would find comfort there but when I walked into her room…so I ran over here, I ran over to my best friend. “I don't know. I feel numb.” I whispered. I had thought I would cry for hours over my mum but the tears had dried up and no matter how hard I wanted them to fall they stayed dried up. “I know you're hurting over your mom. I could never imagine what it feels like to lose your mother. But that's not what I'm talking about.” She turned over on the bed and faced me.“What are you talking about then?” I asked, genuinely confused.Alex cleared her throat and looked at me uneasily. “How do you feel now? especially after meeting your father.” She asked and watched me curiously. My anger returned swiftly and bitterness enveloped me like a thin shroud.“How could she do that?” I asked, my voice filled with bitterness.“How
I rolled down my window to get a better view of the passing vegetation. It was the most beautiful woodland I had ever seen in my entire life. My eyes flew wide open, I could hardly believe a place like this existed. Several rabbits hopped around fallen trees on the lush green forest floor. Huge trees grew so tall that it seemed they were reaching for the clouds. “It's beautiful isn't it?” My father asked. A large smile was playing on his stupid face. I could see his stupid eyes staring at me from the rearview mirror. I brought out my headphones and immersed myself in a world of heavy metal. My father was saying something but I could not hear a word of what he said. The smell of the woodland filled my soul with a peculiar energy, one I had never felt before. I longed to run through the trees, play on the grass, and hop along with the rabbits. 'Eat the rabbits.’ a voice said. I looked up at my Father but he had his eyes on the road and didn't seem to have said a word.I pulled the
The morning breeze had been a thing of comfort to me, its cool message of guidance and love had been mind-soothing. That man, Gabriel had returned and once again my peace was gone.“Hi.” The girl said. I was guessing this was his daughter, she had his hair and I could see a bit of him in her. Just a bit.“Hi,” I responded. She looked flushed and quickly turned her eyes away in a shy manner. I smiled to myself knowingly. It was always the same with all of them the first time they saw me.She looked up at me once again, this time her icy blue eyes bore into mine, searching, reaching into my very soul. Blood flow to my face as goosebumps erupted all over my flesh. I could not stand it any longer and quickly averted my gaze. Who was this witch?“Selene.” Gabriel’s voice echoed through the house. I was grateful to him for the intrusion as she quickly turned her gaze to him. She stared at him coldly, in the same way she had looked at my mother.“What do you want?” she growled at him. Gabri
Selene's povMy senses returned with a bang. What the hell was I doing here? My lips were interlocked in a passionate embrace with the guy who was supposed to be my new family. I withdrew my lips from him, and to my uttermost disgust, I felt myself hesitate. “Stop,” I muttered. He withdrew away away hesitantly too and stared at me with those golden eyes. I turned away as the blood flew up to my face and I blushed madly. This guy was going to think I'm some naive countryside girl.“My goodness.” He exclaimed, “I'm so sorry.” He looked as if he was drowning in his shame. Both of us were entitled to this shame. Had he no manners? To force himself on me was unacceptable. “But he didn't force himself on you. You allowed him.” A cool voice within me. The voice had been so loud I turned around to see if there were any other people inside the room.“It's ok,” I muttered while wriggling my fingers together. What would Alex think of Magnus? Yes, he was hot and her type but what would she th
Selene's pov “Hello, My flower.” The all too familiar voice said. I sat up from my bed and turned to look at the face I thought I had lost forever.“Mom?” I asked, fearing that it was not her, fearing I was imagining it all.“Yes dear, it's me. Get up, you'll be late for work.” She said and opened the door to my room. She walked inside and stood next to me. My mother was walking!! I stared at her with open eyes. Wait I was back in my room, I was back home. Confusion began to set in quickly. Why was I back here? And how was she whole and hearty? My mother had been I'll…my mother was…“Are you alright, flower?” she asked. She bent down and felt my forehead. “You don't have a fever.” “Mom,” I muttered in awe. She continued her work around me. “ Yes, darling?” She replied.I could feel something tugging at the back of my mind. I could feel someone trying to reach me. “Get up Seli, before your breakfast grows cold.” I lay on the bed and continued gaping at her.“Get up young lady.” My m
Magnus’s pov.All my life I have known pain. You are not considered to be an alpha if you are a weakling. The Lycan gene is poison to those who cannot wield its power, it corrupts you, weakens you more because you need strength to fight, and if you have no strength for the fight you are beaten. Pain has been my friend for a long time for I am an ancient, I am feral, I am one with nature. The pain that seared through my entire body was not something I was familiar with though. Tears threatened to escape my eyes as Selene pressed down on the wound with a piece of her cloth and a mixture of herbs.“Hmmm.” I groaned. The tears were now close, I bit down hard on my lips to stop myself from screaming.“Please, stay still.” Selene pleaded. Her icy blue eyes were filled with fear and concern. She wrapped the cloth around the wound in a bid to stop the bleeding. I watched her hands as she walked quickly but her face soon called to me and the memory of the moment we had shared. No, now was not
Gabriel's pov“Stupid, stupid stupid!!” I yelled while kicking at the bucket in front of me. What was wrong with me, why do I always mess things up?“We'll find her,” Mira said. She placed a hand on my shoulder and squeezed. I turned to her and despite my fear and anger, I forced a smile for her. It was nice seeing her show concern over the matter. The both of us had caused this and it was our responsibility to bring Selene back home. “We don't even need to find her,” Mira added to my disappointment. I should have known she couldn't think of anybody other than herself.“Why would you say that,” I asked angrily. Mira rolled her eyes and walked away to the living room.“It wasn't our fault. Why did she have to come spying on us? I wonder what kind of mother she must have had.” She said the last set of words with an air of disdain.I turned to her and stared at her, uncertain of what I had heard.“What did you just say?” I growled as I advanced towards her with slow steps.“Your daught
Selene's povFor the first time since I met him, I was seeing my father. Sure I have looked at him before, and stared at him a few times too but I have never really seen him, or acknowledged him. But there he stood, with a piece of iron sticking out of his leg, blood dripping from his lips, his body a battered mess, all caused by the mother of the man he was going to rescue so selflessly.I nodded to him and he nodded back at me. He grimaced a little and turned to Mira. “Do you still want to stand here fighting, when your son is out there wounded?”“LIES!!!” Mira screamed madly. “It's a lie.”“You're doing whatever you can to escape my wrath! Bunch of spineless cunts, that's what you are!” She looked at me but I could no longer see anger in her eyes. His furry chest heaved with breath and I could see tears at the edge of her eyelids. She wanted it to be a lie.“There's no time for this!” I cried, “Magnus is hurt and I fear other demons are still out there!”“Shut up!!” She yelled a
