CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

- - - - -

Charlotte’s POV

Damien rose to his full height, a small, dangerous smile playing on his lips. His shadow loomed over me, and though I tried to hold his gaze, my chest tightened with dread.

I can’t. I can’t spend the night with him. Never. And yet… the thought of Crystal being banned from seeing me was just as unbearable.

What’s with him and these impossible choices?

“So, it’s left for you to decide,” Damien said, his tone calm but laced with authority. He lingered for a moment longer, watching me like a wolf cornering its prey.

“I will take my leave now,” he added, his voice softer, almost mocking. “Once you’ve made up your mind… you know where to find me. I’ll be waiting.”

The smirk tugging at his lips sent a shiver crawling down my spine.

I pushed myself up from the ground, brushing my palms against my dress, but my eyes instantly caught Olivia’s stare. The hatred in her gaze was so sharp it made my stomach twist.

CHAPTER THIRTY - - - - -Charlotte's POV I couldn’t stop staring at the figure filling the doorway. My breath caught in my throat. What’s he doing here? Heat rushed through me, not from relief, but from dread. Shit. He’s going to complicate everything now.“Damien,” Olivia breathed, her entire demeanor softening as she hurried toward him. She slipped her hands around his arm, her voice dripping with false sweetness.Crystal and I quickly lowered our heads, bowing to show respect. My heart pounded against my ribs, each beat louder than the last.“Damien,” Olivia began, her voice trembling as though she were the victim. “Charlotte and this outsider have been speaking to me so rudely, nonstop.” She sniffed, blinking rapidly as if she were on the verge of tears.I clenched my fists at my sides. She’s insane. The way she can lie so easily, switching from venom to innocence, it’s frightening.“I was only feeling bored in my chambers,” she went on, her tone soft and pitiful. “So I deci

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE- - - - -Charlotte's POVI froze, stunned by the force with which the door slammed open.Olivia swept into the room with that practiced air of entitlement she carried everywhere. “Well, hello,” she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness.“I hear there’s a little party going on without me. That doesn’t sound very fair, does it? So…” She dragged a chair across the floor and sat down uninvited, crossing her legs with a smirk. “I thought I’d join.”A sigh escaped me before I could stop it. Of course. What else could she possibly want now? With Olivia, her presence never meant peace, only trouble.“When someone isn’t invited to a party,” Crystal shot back, her tone edged with sarcasm, “doesn’t that usually mean the hosts don’t want them there?”She didn’t stop there. “And really, you could have just knocked. No need for such a dramatic entrance.” Crystal folded her arms as she sat, meeting Olivia’s gaze without flinching.I quickly glanced at her and shook my he

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT - - - - - Charlotte’s POV I led Crystal into my room in the palace, needing a quiet place where we could talk. We settled on the edge of my bed, the silence stretching between us for a moment. Her eyes searched my face, bright with the joy of seeing me again, yet shadowed with a sadness she couldn’t hide as she took in the place I now called home.“How’s Luna Abigail's health now?” I asked carefully. Because Crystal had returned sooner than I expected, and I could only hope it meant good news.“She’s much better,” Crystal said with relief in her voice. “Turns out the people looking after her here were giving her the wrong medication. Once we took her over there, she was placed on the right treatment, and now she is improving quickly.”“I’m glad to hear that,” I said, the tension in my chest loosening a little. My hand brushed against the fabric of her dress as if to steady myself. “And Henry and Cate? How are they?”Crystal’s face softened. “They’re fine, al

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN - - - - -Charlotte’s POVWithout thinking, I ran toward the girl who stood there staring at me, her eyes shimmering with the same disbelief I felt. Her arms were spread wide, like a mother beckoning her child home. The sight broke something inside me. I didn’t even realize I was crying until the tears slid hot and fast down my cheeks. She was sitting on the couch, waiting. The moment I reached her, I bent down and wrapped my arms around her tightly, holding on as though she might disappear if I let go. The tears came uncontrollably, pouring out of me in heavy sobs. I had missed her so much, more than words could ever explain. If she had been here, none of this would have happened. She hugged me back just as fiercely, her own tears falling as she rubbed my back in slow, soothing circles. It was as if she already knew what I had gone through without me needing to say a word.“I’ve missed you so much… urghhh,” I choked out between sobs, my voice breaking as I snif

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX - - - - -Damien’s POVI lifted a hand, pressing a finger to my lips, a silent command for my brothers to keep quiet. The coachman’s scream tore through the air, raw and panicked, but I didn’t move just yet. Instead, I closed my eyes briefly, drawing in the wind. The scents came to me—sweat, leather, steel, and the faint, bitter tang of silver, scattered in the trees around us. I was counting how many people were around without seeing them.I caught five distinct scents circling us, they were all Rogues. ‘Noah, you first. Aiden, you follow right after me.’ I mindlinked them, my voice calm despite the chaos brewing. The carriage door swung open, and I stepped out without hesitation. A blur of movement lunged at me, teeth bared, but I was faster. My hand shot out, clamping around the wolf’s throat. One swift twist and a sickening crack echoed through the clearing. It went limp instantly. On the far side of the carriage, I could hear Noah already engaged, the sound
