Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Nameless
Scott's POV

The two men carried themselves like thugs and looked nothing like police officers at all.

Dad hadn't even been buried yet. There was no way I was going to let them take me without a fight.

"Officers, let me tie my shoes first. Then, I'll go with you," I said.

I crouched down and pretended to fiddle with my laces. The moment they looked away, I took off running.

I had barely made it out the door when they caught me and slammed me to the ground.

"You punk!" one of the men snarled. "You really thought you could fool us? I'll break your leg!"

With that, he kicked my foot with all his strength, and I heard the bone crack.

I screamed. Pain shot through me, and I rolled across the ground.

One of them ran inside my house and came back out. "Paul isn't here. Just take the kid for now."

…

The two men locked me in a small, windowless room with white walls.

They sat across from me and began questioning me. "Scott, do you know why we brought you here?"

Their act was pathetic. I had no intention of playing along, so I said nothing.

"You know things will go easier when you cooperate, right? So start talking," one of the men said. "How did your father falsify your SAT scores?"

"I didn't cheat!" I shouted.

When I refused to admit it, one of the men came over with a police baton and threatened me. "We've looked into everything. How could a student from a school like that even get a score this high?

"You had better come clean, or I'll make you!"

He slammed the baton down on the table in front of me, but it bounced so hard that he lost his grip. The baton came straight back and smacked me in the forehead.

Dad had died so suddenly that I hadn't had time to process it. Now, everything I had been holding inside finally exploded.

I screamed at them, "What's wrong with that school? Are its students destined to fail from the moment they walk through the door?

"Are we not allowed to get good grades, make something of ourselves, or have a bright future?

"You wanted proof that my scores were falsified, right? I'll give it to you. But tell Yolanda not to regret this!"

I opened my backpack and pulled out an acceptance letter from Havorton University, one of the top colleges in the country.

"This is your proof!" I yelled.

Before the men could react, I tore the acceptance letter to pieces and threw the scraps into the air.

"What the hell? That letter he just tore up was from Havorton University!"

"Tell Yolanda my acceptance letter is gone. I'm not going to college either!" I said.

The two men exchanged uneasy looks. After a silent exchange, one of them finally stepped outside to make a call.

…

Third-Person POV

The city's most luxurious hotel was packed with guests. Yolanda was throwing a lavish party to celebrate Winston's academic success.

One of the abductors called her in a panic. "Ms. Quinn, Scott tore up his acceptance letter. He says he's not going to college!"

Yolanda had never cared whether Scott went to college. She asked anxiously, "What about the evidence that he falsified his SAT scores? Did you get anything out of him?"

"No. The kid's too smart. We couldn't get him to talk," the abductor replied.

"Then, make him suffer a little. I don't believe he won't crack," Yolanda said.

"We already broke one of his legs, and he still wouldn't talk," the man said. "He may have figured out who we are. What do we do now?"

With so many people around, Yolanda couldn't lose her temper. She lowered her voice and cursed, "Useless idiots! You can't even handle a kid. What about Paul?"

"He wasn't there when we went to their place. Ms. Quinn, what if the kid calls the police and has us arrested?" the man asked.

  • My Mother's Last Words Killed My Dad   Chapter 11

Scott's POVWinston kicked the door like a madman, determined to break it down and kill me.Suddenly, an alarm went off downstairs.Winston was still young, and the sound sent him into a panic. He fled down the fire stairs. The same day, two videos spread across social media. The first showed a teenager riding a motorcycle. He crashed through a guardrail by the river and fell into the water. When they fished him out, he was already dead. The teenager was believed to have been Winston Zeller, the student at the center of the cheating scandal in Jeston. The second showed a middle-aged man rushing to the river and breaking down in tears. Moments later, he plunged a knife into his own chest and died despite emergency treatment.Under intense public pressure, the police quickly solved the case using forensic methods. Someone else had indeed been sitting in Winston's seat during the SAT. The person who was paid to take the test on Winston's behalf was soon arrested. The investiga

Scott's POVPeople online started calling me their inspiration. Now that I had everyone's attention, I moved on to the next part of my plan.I exposed Winston online for hiring someone to take the SAT for him, with Yolanda, chairwoman of Carson Group, acting as his accomplice.I also posted his awful grades from all three years of high school. He barely passed most of his classes. The story quickly sparked public outrage, especially among high school seniors and their parents."Sure, regular grades aren't everything. But with scores like that, suddenly coming out on top of the SAT is an insult to all the kids who actually worked for it!""Exactly. There are geniuses in this world, but I don't believe anyone can suddenly become one on one of the biggest tests of their life!""As they say, if you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide. The truth will always prevail!""The fact that this kid had to speak out online proves the local authorities can't be trusted. This ne

Scott's POV"Karl specifically asked me to bring you home so we can all take care of you for a while," Yolanda said. "He also said you and Winston got into the same college, so when school starts, we'll take you both there together!"Her smile faded when I continued to ignore her. She put on a pitiful expression. "Scott, please. Give me a chance to make things right, okay?"Watching her act so helpless, I knew she had an ulterior motive. After all, even when she was living with us before, she rarely ever humbled herself. No matter who was right or wrong, Dad and I always had to apologize, placate her, and do whatever it took to make her happy.Poor Dad had given all his love to a woman who never deserved it."Ms. Quinn, don't waste your tears," I said. "I'm not Karl, so I won't fall for them."Yolanda tried to argue. "Scott, you just hate me because I left you and Paul. But all I did was pursue my own happiness. What's wrong with that?"Karl was only protecting me from getting

Scott's POV"Open your eyes and take a good look. My father, Paul Carson, died eight days ago," I said. "It was on the very same day I called you."I'm here today to take care of the paperwork for his death. If you still don't believe me, ask the officers to check the records."Yolanda looked at me in disbelief. "Karl told me you and Paul were just trying to get me to feel sorry for you. He saw Paul getting you discharged from the hospital.""Is that so? Then, how do you explain him throwing Dad's urn into the trash?" I asked."Impossible! Karl would never do something like that," Yolanda said."Do you want to see the security footage? It's crystal clear. You can see that shameless bastard Karl in every frame!" I said.Yolanda turned to the police. "Officer, is Paul really dead?""According to these documents, there's no doubt about it," the officer replied.Yolanda stood there in a daze for a moment, then crouched in front of me. "Scott, how have you managed all these days by

Scott's POVKarl rushed over and pounded on the door. "Scott, don't make up lies about us! I was at the hospital yesterday, and I saw Paul getting you discharged and taking you home in a wheelchair.""If you're seeing dead people, I guess your time is almost up too," I retorted.Yolanda started to say something else, but I backed my wheelchair away and slammed the inner door shut in their faces.I could practically picture Yolanda's face turning beet red with rage as she cursed and pounded on the door nonstop. But a few security guards soon showed up and kicked them out.A neighbor in the homeowners' group chat wrote, "Those two have no decency!"I liked a few comments and replied, "And she calls herself a chairwoman. She has absolutely no class!"…Dad didn't smoke or drink. His only hobby was watching soccer.Tonight was the Erolean Championship final. I turned on the TV so Dad and I could watch one last soccer game together. His voice echoed in my head."Scott, the goal

Scott's POVThat evening, someone pounded on my front door.I opened the inner door and faced Yolanda and Karl through the locked security screen door.Yolanda got the first word in. "Scott, how dare you go to the media to expose me and file a police report against me?"You ingrate! Have you learned nothing after all these years? If I hadn't given birth to you and raised you, you wouldn't even be here!"She didn't stop there. "Students from that high school are either street thugs or kids who barely scrape through and end up working odd jobs. "And you expect me to believe you got into Havorton University? Anyone would be suspicious! I was just checking into you before I ended up taking the blame for everything just because I'm your mother!"I laughed. "So you know that school is terrible too, Yolanda?"You used your status as my mother to force me out of the city's top high school and into that dump. You did it because you hated Dad and me."You just wanted to watch me, as Pa
