Reborn one month before her forced marriage, Abigail returns colder, sharper, and unbreakable. This time, she does not fight for love. "Beep... Beep" The beeping of the hospital monitor was the only sound in the cold and smelly room. My body, frail and lifeless, laying on the stiff hospital bed, my limbs too weak to even move properly. I felt like a corpse already, my skin clinging to my bones, my lips chapped, my once vibrant eyes now dull with exhaustion and pain. The stench of antiseptic mixed with the metallic smell of my own blood and sweat filled the air. I could barely turn my head, barely move a muscle, but I could still hear everything. Footsteps approached, and a soft yet cruel voice filled in the air. "Sir, the hospital bill needs to be cleared," a nurse whispered with a hesitant tone, "It's already due, when are you planning to pay?" A sigh came in return as a response. "She is pretty useless, she isn't worthy of this hospital bill," Marcus, my husband, no, the man I devoted all my youth said with an indifferent tone as if I'm nothing to him, "Just let her die already." A single tear slipped from my eyes, running down my sunken cheek. So this was it? The man I had sacrificed everything for, worked tirelessly for, endured years of suffering for, he isn't even willing to care whether I live or die. I wanted to scream, but my voice was too weak and my throat went dry, all I wanted was just to ask him, wh... Why, after taking everything of mine, why is he like this? But to my surprise, the answer came walking into the room with sharp heels. Selene. My sister, adopted but loved by my family more than me. Just after getting into the room, her hand wrapped possessively around Marcus's arm, her red lips curling in a smirk. "Honey," she leaned completely in his embrace, twisted her nose in disgust, "what's that horrible smell?" I felt my heart crack looking at the sight of them being close right in front of me, Marcus smiled at her, his expression softened in a way I had never seen before. "Darling, why did you come to a filthy place like this? A princess like you isn't supposed to be in such a place!" Selene pouted and turned to me with a mock concern. "I just wanted to say goodbye to my dear sister." My sister. The one who had taken everything from me, the one who was never satisfied despite stealing everything including my identity. She leaned closer, her strong perfume suffocating, and she whispered against my ear with dripping venom. "Abi, my dear little sister, you've gone through so much just to give me a better life, first your parents and brothers, then your designs made me a famous designer, your identity as real daughter gave me a husband, and after he died, I inherited everything. Now, your husband is also mine." My breath hitched. My frail fingers clutched weakly around the bedsheet as I stared at her in horror. "Wh... why?" I choked out. She laughed coldly, tracing her manicured nails on my face, "Why? Did you ask why? Because you were born to serve me, I'm the only daughter of Massimo family, but you were trying to steal my place, just because you're a real daughter, being an adopted daughter should I let you have everything? No, you're a fool, so everything became mine, whether it's family or their love, now, it's time to give me the inheritance too." Marcus wrapped his arms around her waist, lifted her chin up and kissed her deeply, right in front of me. I wanted to throw up, my stomach twisted. I had sacrificed years for this man, stood by him through poverty, fought against his failures, and carried his burdens, only to watch him betray me in the most gothic way possible. Selene pulled away from the kiss and glanced toward me, her fingers trailing over the sheets as she leaned down. "Oh, and one more thing," she giggled with a proud face. "I'm pregnant with Marcus's child." Something in me snapped. With the last ounce of strength left in my bones, my hand raised up, closing around her throat. She gasped, struggling, her nails digging into my arm. Marcus tried to push me away, but I clung on, if I was going to die, I would take her with me. "You bitch!" he roared, slapping my already bruised cheek. My grip loosened. Suddenly, a sharp pain exploded at the back of my head. A dull ringing filled in my ears, my breathing turned heavy while my vision blurred. As I turned weakly, my eyes landed on Brisney, my mother-in-law, holding a bloody IV stand in her hand. She had hit me... She had actually hit me. But instead of concern towards me, she rushed to Selene's side. "Oh, my dear! Are you alright? My precious grandson mustn't be hurt! You and my dearest grandson are fine, right?" Selene coughed but smiled. "I'm fine, Mother, just a little shaken, looks like my baby is terrified too..." Brisney turned to me with disgust filled expression. "You wretched whore! You're jealous because you could never give Marcus a child! You're a diseased slut, spreading filth everywhere!" Daisy, Marcus's sister, sneered at me, "We shouldn't even be breathing the same air as her, what if she infects us?" I stared at them with the most horrified face. "It was you," I whispered with the shaking voice. "You sent me to other men... for your benefit... just to get me pregnant... because your son is impotent." Their faces twisted with rage, she slapped me hard enough to make me cough blood, "You damn bitch! You got AIDS because of your slutty nature, none forced you..." George, my father-in-law entered with a cruel smirk, "It doesn't matter anymore, we have a billion-dollar life insurance policy on her. If she dies now, we will inherit everything." I gasped hard. They planned this. All of them.... All of them planned for my downfall to ruin me, but why? Why am I the one to be abandoned always? The family I had struggled for, the husband I had loved, the sister who enjoyed everything in my place, still they had all plotted my death. Marcus's phone rang. He answered it and as soon as he hung up the call, his brows furrowed. "The Massimo family is coming," he announced darkly with an anxious face. "If she stays alive, she might sign everything over to them, that shouldn't happen, only if she dies now, Selene will inherit those shares left by the old lady of the Massimo family." All of them looked at the like predators looking for a prey. Selene grinned, picking up a pillow. "You lived long enough, Abi, that's enough for now, but don't worry, if there's another life... I'll still be your beloved sister, that way, I can steal everything from you again, now if you die, I'll take care of everything for you." The others grabbed my arms and legs, pinning me down forcefully. I'm getting pinned, my body is struggling, but I was too weak. The pillow pressed against my face tightly. Air.... I needed air. Darkness blinding the edges of my vision. I couldn't breathe. I kicked.... I clutched hard.... I fought. But they were stronger than me, they were winning. And I.... I was dying. As my body gave in, my mind screamed. "If there's another life... I'll make you all pay for this." Darkness swallowed me whole, and I let out a final breath, surrendering to death unwillingly. But just as I thought it was over, a strong light pierced through the void. A strong force gripped my soul, pulling me backward, through the time. My memories unraveled like threads, rewinding faster and faster... until suddenly, I felt air rush into my lungs again. Gasping, my eyes snapped open. My head stung, my surroundings blurred. Then a sharp slap landed across my cheek, and the familiar words cut through the daze, "You're ungrateful! How can you do this to your sister?" Ungrateful? Sister? What's happening here? I turned my head around to see the same familiar faces and familiar house of mine. This isn't real, it can't be, I just died, didn't I? My mind spun as I looked around. My sister.... My house.... My body, all healthy again, a shiver ran down my spine Didn't I die? They killed me right? How come I'm here? What's happening here?••ABIGAIL POV•• "Babe," Virin spoke slowly while driving through the rainy road, "did you leave your home for real?"I turned my head towards him and nodded once. "Yes, I did.""And your family?""Family? Do I even have one to call as a family?" He didn't show any signs of shock, or panic, he just smiled as if he already expected my answer.I frowned slightly at his reaction. "How come you're here at a time like this? And how did you even know that I left my family?" Virin let out a small chuckle, while tapping his fingers on the steering wheel."Who else will tell me about you apart from your headmaid babe, she called me the moment you left, and told me everything, thankfully I was nearby and rushed for you since I felt you needed me by your side."My chest tightened a little. This is why I always considered Virin more than a friend... almost like a family. The only person who always stayed on my side without judging me, without comparing me to Selene... without asking 'why'.But
••ABIGAIL POV••"Sele..." My mother just opened her mouth to question Selene, and before that even happened, there goes a new drama."Abi," Selene's soft voice broke through as she took a hesitant step closer, her eyes glistening with the very same crocodile tears as always."I'm extremely sorry," she whispered in a sweet tone dripping with poisoned honey, "I know you're hurt....I know you're upset because of me, but I didn't mean to...." I took a step back as she reached for my hand, the moment her fingers brushed my skin, all I could remember was the tragedy from my past life and I immediately pulled back my hand as I felt disgusted by her touch. But before I could even speak, she stumbled backward dramatically, her heel tripped against the floor before she fell hard onto the carpet.Gasps filled the room."Sele, my dear!" my mother cried, rushing to her side.Selene coughed weakly, covering her face as fake tears streamed down her cheeks."I... ••ABIGAIL POV••"Apologize to your sister!" My mother's voice filled in the entire living room, shaking me to my core. "She has done so much for you! Sacrificed so much, and yet you remain ungrateful!"I blinked, my mind is occupied with confusion and I'm not in a position to respond at this moment. What was happening, here? How come this situation is very familiar? Before I could piece things together, Selene clutched my mother's hand, her voice came out to be kind and gentle."Mom, please don't be angry with Abi," she pleaded, while her eyes sparkling with unshred tears, "She is still young, and probably misunderstood me." My mother sighed heavily, turning to me with disappointment in her eyes. "See how much your sister loves you? She even sacrificed the man who was supposed to be her fiance for your sake, and yet, you dare to hurt her? How can you be so selfish?" And then it hit me.A sharp jolt of realization struck my mind like lightning.I... I was reborn. My fingers curled in
