LOGIN*Can be read as a standalone. Third novel of My Best Friend’s Brother* Childhood friend. Insane attraction. Those two shouldn’t be next to each other—considering Skylar Voss swore she never had a massive crush on Jaxon Thompson, the boy who spent half his life ignoring her. But when she gets to college and discovers her dorm space has been given away, she ends up with one option: rooming with Jaxon. And that’s when she realizes she’s been lying to herself all along. She never got over him. Not even close. The problem? Jaxon is popular, with girls throwing themselves at him—and he’s changed so much, she knows she doesn’t stand a chance. At least, that’s what she thought. But in one minute she’s just his roommate, the “little girl” he barely noticed… and in the next? He’s the boy taking her virginity—the one she’s falling hopelessly in love with. But maybe not every love story should have a happy ending.

•.• Skylar•.• I looked out of the window from the backseat where I sat with my little brother, who had his attention on the iPad in his hands. Mum and Dad were at the front, laughing about something while Daddy drove. “Sweetie, are you excited to see Jaxon and his little sister?” Mummy asked. I pursed my lips before looking away from the window, shaking my head. Mum glanced back at me, her brows drawing together and her eyes softening. “Why, honey? You don’t like it there?” she asked. I stared down at my hands. They were little—not as big as Mum’s or Dad’s. “Jaxon ignores me the whole time. He no longer plays with me but prefers sitting with Aidan,” I pouted, and Mummy shared a look with Dad, who said something I didn’t catch. “Did you have a fight with him?” Mum went on to ask, and I shook my head. “No.” “He’s taken after his father. Leave it to Aaron to pass his fucking trait to his son,” Daddy said, and Mummy glared at him. “Language, Adrian,” Mum scolded before returning her attention to me. “Oh sweetheart, it’s not what it seems, okay? Maybe Jaxon was angry at something,” Mummy said. I pressed my lips together before leaning forward. “Are we still going to be friends?” I asked quietly. Mummy smiled before reaching back to pat my hair. “Of course, sweetie. We would talk to Jaxon, okay?” she reassured me, and I nodded, feeling a little happier than before. We’d play together like we always did, around the tree. Jaxon had promised he’d teach me how to climb once I was grown up. He was just ten and I was nine—that wasn’t much of an age difference, was it? Mum and Dad had quiet conversations for the rest of the ride, but I was no longer paying attention. We eventually got to Aunt Joan’s and Uncle Aaron’s house. I got out of the car excitedly but tripped and fell because I jumped before Daddy could stop the car. Mummy screamed and got out of the car, rushing to check on me. “Skylar! Why would you do that? We told you it’s unsafe to jump out of a moving car.” She squatted in front of me to check my knee. It hurt. “You sprained your knee,” she muttered before saying something to Daddy. Daddy dropped Aidan, who walked over to me in small steps. He was four. He gave me a small wave, which I believed was his way of saying sorry. I smiled at him even though my knee hurt. I pursed my lips when Mummy pressed it slightly. “That hurts.” “Should have thought twice before jumping out of a moving vehicle,” Daddy said, and I stared up at him. He sounded a little pissed. He sighed before squatting in front of me and patting my hair. “It won’t hurt anymore, honey,” he said, and I nodded. Maybe this wasn’t the right time to tell them I was in a hurry to see Jaxon. It would make Mummy mad. “What happened to her?” I heard Aunty Joan ask. I peeked over Mummy’s shoulder as their door opened and Aunty Joan walked out with someone on her trail—Jaxon. I perked up and tried giving a small wave. He didn’t see me. He didn’t even look my way. I watched as he walked up to Aidan, who lit up the instant he saw him. “Hey buddy. You up for some hide-and-seek?” he asked, and Aidan nodded gleefully. Jaxon gave him a smile before putting his arm around him and leading him into the house. My shoulders dropped. He didn’t even look at me once or acknowledge the fact that I was hurt. It hurt. Not my knee being sprained—but being ignored. I dropped my head, ignoring the adults fussing over me, and felt a tear slide down my cheek and onto my dress. It hurt. It hurts so bad.•.•Harper•.•It’s been a week — since Harper’s incident and me calling the cops on Jaxon’s party, which didn’t end well, by the way. And yeah, he knew I was behind it.We haven’t spoken much. Hell, he wasn’t even around most of the time. It was nice — a big help even. It helped me study more, and classes have been… tedious.Harper and I have been working our asses off to keep up. Or better still, I have been working my ass off. And that was why, after an all-night study session, I was surprised to see Jaxon sitting cross-legged in the sitting room.Yeah, surprising — I never woke up to see Jaxon in the mornings. He either locked himself in his room or, worse still, slept out the night before. He glanced up at me from his phone.“Good morning,” he greeted, and I arched a brow.Wait… was he speaking to me?I said nothing, because my bets were on me hearing wrongly.I walked toward the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water. Lately, I’ve been dehydrated as fuck.“So you just snub?” he a
•.•Skylar•.•I rolled onto my side for the hundredth time since the party started, because obviously they had the music at the highest volume — inconsiderate of anyone else.I grabbed the pillow and pressed it over my ears, hoping it would numb the sound a little, but no. Nothing helped.Rolling onto my back, I stared at the ceiling, flat-out annoyed. This was ridiculous. Absolutely inhumane.I had classes in the morning and I needed my sleep. I wasn’t about to show up looking like a zombie, and my sleep-deprived brain definitely wouldn’t process anything. If there was one thing I cherished more than anything, it was my sleep. And now I couldn’t even have that.Reaching out, I grabbed my phone from the nightstand, swung my legs off the bed, and stared at the screen. Two a.m.They’d been at it for hours now, and while I’d hoped the music would eventually get lower, it only got louder, and I kept tossing around my bed.I unlocked my phone and saw a text from Harper:Harper: How’s it goi
•.•Jaxon•.•“You sure everything’s all sorted, man?” Andy asked.I dragged a hand through my hair and sat up from where I’d been sprawled on his couch. I stared at him.“Hey. Sure we can’t have it at your place instead?” I asked. He glanced back at me over his shoulder, eyes narrowing. “No? What? We can’t use your place no more?”I swung my legs off the couch. “My door is always open. I’m just wondering if I could skip this time. You know…” I raised a brow, hoping he’d understand. He didn’t. “Then what is it?”I exhaled. “Dude, she’s staying with me, and all those people…” I trailed off, pinching the bridge of my nose.Andy huffed. “This won’t be a problem if she locks herself up in her room.”I shot him a dry look. His brows climbed.“Wait. Is there another reason maybe?” he muttered.A muscle tightened in my jaw.“If there’s something she loves most, it’s making sure she never listens to me. I know her, bro — she’s not gonna lock herself up.”He chuckled, giving me a ridiculous loo
•.•Skylar•.•The next morning was hell unleashed. I was so wrong to think avoiding Dad’s call would make anything better, but I should have known he wasn’t one to tolerate crap. And that was how all four of us — including Jaxon, of course, since he was an eyewitness — ended up standing before the Dean.“We’ll look into it, sir,” the man said. Dad cocked his head slightly, resting both arms on the braces of the chair.“I have a feeling that would take a long time. There are evidences enough to get him fired,” he pointed out, and the Dean shot us a displeased look before returning his attention to my father.Harper stood quietly beside me. She’d gotten much better this morning, and though her memory was still fuzzy, she remembered going to the damn party and taking the damn drink.“We still need to carry out our investigations, sir,” the Dean countered.I frowned. What more did they need to investigate? Jaxon had clearly provided evidence of the two men he’d knocked out. Not a pretty si
