Damien's POV

She nodded like it was nothing. “Why do you have that look on your face? Isn't this what you always wanted?”

I puffed into the tube, moving to my room. I expected her to stay where she was, but she trailed behind me.

She pressed her palm to my forehead as she came up beside me. “Are you sick or something? Why are you acting strange?”

My hand closed around her wrist, lowering it from my forehead. “You know who is acting strange right now? It's you.”

She pulled away and lay on the b

  • My Safest Danger    Crossing the Line

Skylar's POVWhy was I acting so paranoid? I hated being afraid. I hated how I couldn't even step out of the house without expecting something bad to happen.“Are you okay, ma'am?” the guard whispered. “We can head back if you're uncomfortable.”“I'm fine.” I gave him a quick nod before stepping inside.Joan sat on a couch, drinking a bottle of water while chatting with a group of girls. One of them grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the centre of the room.I sighed and turned my attention elsewhere. Zack sat a few chairs away, looking worn out as he sipped his wine. I walked over and took the seat across from him.“And guess who I'm seeing live?” He grinned at me, setting his glass down. “You look really good.”“Thank you.” I smiled, keeping an eye on Joan.“Have you talked with Joan? That girl is acting seriously weird. I mean, look at this place. This is wild.”I shrugged, glancing back at Joan. “Maybe she decided to have a little fun. We've all been so preoccupied with work t

Skylar's POVHe stepped back, peeling my hands away. “Get him out of my sight!”The guards rushed forward and grabbed Jace by the arms, pulling him to his feet. He struggled against their grip, blood running from his jaw as he stared at me. They dragged him around the corner of the house and out of sight.Damien turned toward the house with one hand pressed against his shoulder. I followed him up the stairs. He didn't even look back to check if I was keeping up.I stopped in the hallway to grab my phone and the things he'd gotten me from beside the window. The look on his face when he held Jace down was nothing like the man who had flicked my nose less than an hour earlier. All I could see was someone ready to end another person's life without a second thought.I walked into his room and paused at the doorway. Damien sat on the couch with his shirt on the floor, pulling away the bloodied bandage from his shoulder. He could be arrogant, infuriating and always trying to make decisions

  • My Safest Danger    His Dark Side

Skylar's POVHe pulled away, flicked the tip of my nose and extended the bag to me. “Your new phone. I can help restore your data if you want.”My fingers dipped inside, pulling out the sealed glass box. “You didn't have to.”The words sounded ungrateful even to my own ears, considering I hadn't thanked him for the car he'd gifted me.I opened the box, lifting the phone out. “Thank you, but promise to answer this. Was there any bug installed in this phone?”He arched an eyebrow. “What do you mean?” “Don't think I'm foolish.” I lowered the phone and glanced at him. “I knew you were the one who bugged my phone. So don't you dare lie to me.”He sighed, looking at me for a few seconds. “Just forget about that. I did it for your safety.” “Is that really it?” I rolled my eyes, waiting for him to give me another explanation. “I want to let it go, considering what you've done for me. How did you get a hold of my phone?”His eyes moved away from mine. “During the night you first met me.”I p

  • My Safest Danger    A New Friend

Skylar's POVWe were outside the house, standing near the swimming pool. I looked around, taking in the space properly for the first time. I had been so caught up with everything that had happened since I came here that I hadn't taken the time to see what this place actually looked like.Xavier sat on the edge of the pool, swinging his legs above the water. I walked over and sat down beside him, glancing across the quiet poolside. A maid soon approached with two popsicles in her hands. She handed them to Xavier before crouching down beside him and reaching for his arm.“I'm fine.” Xavier pulled his arm away, tearing off one of the popsicles. The maid reached for his arm again, but he tucked it against his side and turned to the pool. After one more attempt, she left a band-aid beside him and crossed to a couch.I picked it up, peeled the paper away and pointed it at him. “Let me see your arm.”Xavier held out his arm without an argument. I took his wrist and fixed the band-aid over

  • My Safest Danger    Matteo-2

Damien's POV "Matteo, stop it already!" "Pained already?" His knuckles turned white around the cane. “Her death was supposed to be nothing serious, just a little princess who died from depression for offending my client, but you decided to complicate things.” He shifted his weight, letting out a groan. “My instructions were simple. Get rid of her, and I'll help you find your mother.” “Don't think I can't do anything to her just because she's under your roof. I walked into your house without firing a single shot, and I can take her life just as easily. What does that tell you?” I clenched my teeth at the realization. He came here to prove that he could reach her whenever he wanted. “You're nothing against me. I might not come after her now. What's the fun in that?” His mouth curved into a smile. “But I'll advise you as your father. Let her go. Marry Isabella, take over my organizatio

  • My Safest Danger    Matteo-1

Damien's POV Matteo released his cane from her and rested it against his leg. “How could I travel miles to see you and your wife couldn't even welcome me properly?” I moved closer, my eyes going straight to Xavier. His back was turned toward me, shoulders trembling while Skylar had a bruise on her forehead. Strands of hair had fallen across her face, hiding part of her face. My gaze shifted back to Xavier, searching for any sign of a wound. There it was, a red mark on his arm. Matteo had been in the same room with them. I hadn't been here to stop him. The guards who were supposed to protect them hadn't suffered a single scratch. My hand closed over the ceramic vase on the table, pinning Matteo with an icy look. Xavier turned his face toward me, his eyes filled with tears. The sound of breaking glass, the smell of blood, the helpless rage all came rushing back. I couldn't let him see anything that reminded me of what I'd witnessed as a kid, so I lowered the vase back onto the t
