My Secretary, My Love

Arheana’s Pov

  “To all our passengers our time is 7 AM and temperature outside is 24°C. Flight attendants, prepare for landing please. Cabin crew, please take your seats for landing.” As the pilot informed us the temperature and time of our destination.

New York City.

  The place where all the biggest and respectable companies are standing in the middle. The dream place of all talented and smart professional employees.

    My dream place...my home.

  “Hey, Arheana aren’t you looking for a new job in New York once we settled there?” Maria asked me while I’m busy stowing our luggage underneath of the seat in front of us.

  “Yes, I will. Why?” I answered to her question without looking at her.

  “ I think I’ve found one for you.” She said in an energetic tone.

 As I heard what she said I turned to look at her direction and asked, “Okay. How do you found me a job? We’re still here inside the plane. How did you do that?” I said to her raising my eyebrows, doubt visible on my face.

 She rolled her eyes to my question which made me laughed. She shook her head and got back to the newspaper she was reading. I got curious to what she was reading since the attendants gave it to her, She didn’t stop reading it. She seems so busy and ignored me again.

  As I returned on our luggage again she suddenly bring the newspaper in front of me. I looked at her as I got surprised to her action. Then she pointed on the newspaper where an article written.

  “Look at this. I’m sure you’re fit on this position.” She smiled at me with sparkling eyes. I felt all my hair in my arms stood with this look. She wiggled  her beautiful eyebrows she lined with brown eyebrow pencils. I decided to look at the newspaper and read the article.

The El,

With this name written on top of the job post my eyes widened in disbelief. The company that I dreamt to work on, I abruptly took the newspaper on Maria’s hand and read it carefully.

  “ It is your dream. You have an opportunity to make it real. Try it Arheana. I know you can pass the interview and your beautiful.” Maria’s persuasion.

  “I doubt that. They only hired those top students and employees who came from top companies like they are. You know that even I got honors back in college I didn’t got a chance to work on big companies.” I sigh with the realization that I’m not qualified to their standards. After I graduated in college I worked at a small company back in our hometown Las Alcobas, California. The place is in country side of California. I do really wish I could work at this kind of company.

   The El is not just an ordinary company, they actually the most leading company of all companies around the world. If I can work with them I can assure a good future for myself. And it always remind me of a special person to my heart...my first love, My El.

  With this thought I gave back the newspaper to Maria.

  “ Try it Arheana. We’re not sure if they will not hire you, right? I believe to your abilities. Just try it, please.” She held my hand and pout her lips with teary eyes just like a small child to convince me.

  I know that I can’t ignore her with thus look. I love this girl for  being my best friend. I remember when I was 10 year oId my grandmother died my parents decided to take me home with them in California. My first day in my new school I keep myself away from other children, I’m always alone and sad but Maria kept on asking me to join her and her friends until one day I decided to come along with them to play. That’s how our friendship started. I took a deep breath before I shake my head in to a nod. She hugged me and let out a scream we got the attention of other passengers inside the plane, I covered her mouth with my right hand to stop her.

  “ You can pass the interview I assure you. You’re a talented and smart girl.” She said after she calmed down.

  “ We can’t be sure. But I will try my best. Thank you for your support.” I said smiling at her.

   “ Don’t be so negative, okay. You can do it I know and I believe in you.” She keep on boosting my confidence. I hugged her and thanked her.

 I looked outside the window to see the whole beautiful sight of New York City. A trance of the past came back to me as I gaze outside.

  The past,

  “Arheana wake up! It’s time to go to school.” Grandmother called for me.

 I rubbed my eyes and open it slowly. I take off the blanket out of my body and wear my comfortable small slippers. I took a bath at my bathroom inside of my bedroom. After taking a bath I put on my school uniform and shoes. I lifted my back pack in my right shoulder and walked down the stair. As I landed at the base of the stair I walked straight to the kitchen and kissed my grandmother. I took the chair at the counter and seated on it as I waited for my breakfast. Grandmother cooked pancakes and bacons for me. She make a glass of milk for me so I can grow faster what she always said to me. I ate my breakfast quietly and thank her. She walked me out at our gate. I kissed her and say goodbye. I walked the road leading to our school. My school is near at our house that’s why I preferred to walk while greeting our  neighbors watering their plants. I passed the house next to our house, I suddenly took a stop at the third house as I noticed the luggages and new furnitures outside of the house. I know it is vacant for almost a month now. Well it looks like we have a new neighbors.

   I walked towards the gate of the house to greet our new neighbors. I looked inside the garden to see if there’s someone. As I looked at the garden I saw the most handsome boy I’d ever seen. He was sitting on a bench outside the house while reading a book. He’s wearing a black shirt and black shorts which he paired with white sneakers. His black hair was combed neatly it was cut short just like a perfect student. He has a red lips, brown orbs , and a nose that are perfectly sculpted. I took a deep breath as I feel my heart beats rapidly at the beautiful sight in front of me. Suddenly he raised his head and turned in my direction as he heard me taking a deep breath. He stared at me with his beautiful brown orbs then he smiled. My cheeks flushed in red when I saw his smile. That was the most beautiful smiles that I'd ever seen in my life.

 At that moment I knew this boy took my heart. He’s my first love. My one and only man. My El.

  “ El I’m back.” I whispered to my self remembering the person I left in this city.

  “Arheana, we’re hear.” Maria flick her fingers in front of me. That cut me off from my thoughts.

  “Oh yeah.” I said.

  “ Where did you go a minute later? Did your man took you for a date?” Maria smiled teasingly at me.

 “ I just remember him. I’m thinking if he still remember me his friend.” I answer to her question. Maria knew my story when I was a child and I told her the story of my first love. 

  “He still remember you, okay. That beauty of yours is not easy to forget so cheer up girl.” I nod and smile.

  We got up from our seats and carried our luggages. As I walked passed our seats I saw the newspaper on Maria’s seat. I grabbed and folded the newspaper before I shove it in my shoulder bag.

  We grab a cab once we’re out of the airport. I occupied the seats at the back, Maria took the seat at the front passenger side. I looked up at the name on top of the tallest building in the middle of the city. THE EL.
