WREN’S POV

I felt it before I understood what I was feeling. I was in the nursery, Violet drowsy against my shoulder after her afternoon feed when Ashley went suddenly, violently alert inside me. Not the quiet restlessness she’d carried for months, the dull persistent ache of missing something I told myself I was learning to live without.

He’s here.

I went completely still my hand freezing against Violet’s back mid-pat.

“What?” I whispered though there was no one else in the room to hear me ask

WREN’S POVVictor started training me slowly, careful about it in a way that reminded me he’d clearly thought this through long before he ever explained it to me directly.“Start small” he said, the two of us standing in his study three days after our first conversation. “Someone you already know well. See if you can feel the difference between what they’re saying and what’s underneath it without pushing too hard.”Camille volunteered without hesitation, settling into the chair across from me with the particular enthusiasm she brought to most things.“Ask me something. Anything. I’ll try to lie a little so you have something to actually sense.”“That feels unnecessarily complicated.”“It’s science, Wren. Ask me something.”I studied her for a moment trying to focus the way Victor had instructed, less like actively searching and more like simply listening to a frequency I’d been ignoring my entire life.“Are you happy here?” I asked.“Absolutely,” Camille said, her voice bright and con

  • My Step Daddy’s Holimate   129: Duskwalker

WREN’S POVIt started small enough that I almost missed it. A nurse at the clinic, Bunmi was laughing at some joke during lunch and underneath the laugh I felt something else entirely. A thin thread of grief she hadn’t mentioned to anyone, something recent and raw that her voice gave no hint of at all. I looked at her twice, confused by the sensatiom before Nia mentioned offhand that Bunmi’s grandmother had passed the week before. I hadn’t been told that. I simply knew it, the way you knew your own hunger or fatigue arriving without explanation. Then it happened again. A patient in the clinic insisting he felt fine, his words calm and reasonable while something underneath his voice screamed wrongness so loudly I’d ordered further tests against his protests. The scan came back showing early signs of a cardiac issue he genuinely hadn’t felt any symptoms of yet.“Lucky catch” Dr. Osei had said, reviewing the results. It didnt feel like luck. It felt like listening to two separate conver

  • My Step Daddy’s Holimate   128: New home

WREN’S POVVictor gave him a small cottage at the edge of the training grounds far enough from the main pack house that it couldn’t be mistaken for anything but exactly what it was. A holding pattern. A place for a man waiting to be let back into a life he’d forfeited the easy right to.I watched him settle into it from a careful distance, the way you watched the weather system you weren’t sure yet whether to trust. He didn’t demand anything. That surprised me more than I wanted to admit. I’d braced myself for pressure, for an alpha unused to being told no finding subtle ways to push past boundaries I’d drawn clearly. Instead he simply existed at the edges of my new life.He trained with Victor’s warriors in the mornings, I learned from Camille who seemed to find the entire situation both fascinating and slightly hilarious.“He got knocked flat by one of the newer recruits yesterday” she reported over lunch, barely hiding her amusement. “Some twenty-year-old kid who’s clearly been wai

  • My Step Daddy’s Holimate   127: Kneeling alpha

WREN’S POVHe knelt there at the crib for a long moment, his broad shoulders shaking slightly, one hand braced against the wood as though he needed it to remain upright.I watched him from across the room, my arms crossed loosely over my chest with some part of me aching at the sight of an alpha who commanded entire territories brought to his knees by six pounds of sleeping infant he hadn’t known existed until this exact moment. I didn’t move toward him.Eventually he turned still kneeling, his gold eyes finding mine with an intensity that made my breath catch despite every wall I’d spent months constructing.“How long?” He asked in a rough voice.“She’s two weeks old.” I kept my tone even guarded. “Her name is Violet.”Something crossed his face at that, grief and recognition tangling together. I have never seen someone go through so many emotions like Ronan. It makes him look younger and older at the same time.“After your mother.”“Yes.”He looked back at the crib, at our daughter’

RONAN’S POVI waited three days at Victor’s border before word finally came that Wren would see me. 3 days of pacing and sleeping in a tent his warriors had grudgingly allowed and rehearsing words that all sounded hollow the moment I tried them out loud to no one.Nolan drove me to the pack house himself, silent beside me the entire way understanding better than most what these final minutes actually cost. I barely registered the grounds we passed through, warriors watching with open curiosity, the pack house itself rising dark and imposing ahead of us.Victor met me at the entrance his expression unreadable as always.“She’s in the west sitting room” he said. “You’ll knock. You’ll wait for her to invite you in. And whatever happens inside that room stays entirely her decision, not yours.”“Understood.”He studied me a moment longer almost like reluctant approval settling into his expression before he turned and led me down a long corridor toward a set of doors that suddenly felt like

Something in my chest already confirmed it before my mind caught up. I carried Violet to her crib on legs that didn’t feel entirely like mine anymore, laid her down with hands that trembled slightly despite my best efforts to steady them and stood there staring at nothing while my entire body tried to process information my mind refused to accept yet. He’d found me or well found the territory, at least. I sat down heavily on the nursery floor, my back against

WREN. The sun was high when I decided to leave the cabin. The air was warm and sticky and for once I wanted nothing more than to feel the sea against my skin. I told Ronan I was going for a swim nothing more than that. He didn’t argue and he just gave me one of those long looks that always makes m
